Honorary Canadian.
Don't forget, they added David Zayas (Angel Batista from Dexter) to play Sal Maroni, also.

Could be an awesome addition.

Great OP though! really pumped for the show!

I really can't imagine the first episode not sucking. I think most shows first episodes are a little shaky as they try to tell you as much about all these characters you're seeing for the first time as quickly as possible. Add in constant "Get it, he's the Penguin!" "she's gonna be Catwoman!" moments and it's just going to suck. But, I'm still hoping the show as a whole is good. I just think it'll take a few episodes to know.

I can just imagine the convoluted mess this show will be if it lasts more than 2 seasons, Bruce is going to be friends with catwoman. Hell have met all his rogues gallery before puberty. Gordon will have romances with Poison ivy and a child with Harley quinn.

Uhh...

That would be an odd turn for the show.

Just watched the First Look

Im worried, the acting, the delivery in particular, feels so off.

From the first episode, they actually do a solid job of not beating you over the head with it.

There's a few references to Oswald looking like a penguin. And Edward giving news in the form of the riddle, though usually shut down by Bullock.

But other than that, it's not like hey she's Catwoman!

Based on where they ended, seems like the focus will be more on the widespread corruption of Gotham and Gordon trying to be a good cop in it all.

But other than that, it's not like hey she's Catwoman!

Every single shot we've seen of her screams "hey look, she's gonna be fucking Catwoman!" There is zero subtlety to her from the looks of it.

See, this is a good idea for a show. You occasionally sprinkle in someone from the universe when it makes sense. Not just go full speed ahead with a full cast of Batman villains. Sadly, everything they've said sounds like that's just not what they're going for. And rumored cock teasing of Joker sounds fucking awful.

If this show has solid ratings, how good of chance is this to come to fruition

Wait, why though?

Because of Babby Batman and the rest of the future rogues gallery. The trailer I had seen before didn't inspire much faith. It looks like "What if everyone Batman knew got Phantom Menace'd". Mainly it is the kids, but I don't have much faith in young Penguin or whatever. The casting for Gordon and Bullock seem great though, so that is mainly why I'm interested.

Gordon and Falcone were decent in the trailer. If they keep the Bruce, Selina and Ivy stuff to a minimum the show could be entertaining.

I like the idea of Fish Mooney basically teaching Penguin how to be a proper dirtbag. That could be rather entertaining in some respects.

Great OT. I'm in!
Didn't even know 16 episodes were planned. Weird number for a network.

Happy with the thread title. ;)

I said I wasn't going to watch this show. There is something about the "everyone is a kid version of what they become" annoys me.

The critics have been damn high on this show so I will give it a shot.

Since it was announced, with the exception of casting Ben McKenzie, really nothing has inspired much confidence. I fully expect this show to be terrible, and yet I'mma watch the pilot. Granted, I'm going to watch it with the lowest expectations I can manage, but I'm going to watch it any way.

Great OT btw.

Why did they change Pam's name to Ivy Pepper?

It just seems silly and arbitrary.

"We want a Poison Ivy cameo, but no one will recognize her!"
"Change her name to Ivy, problem solved!"
"Genius!"

You're right, they should totally went with Ann.

I don't get it. :p

I wonder if they'll be going with her New 52 origin:

These origins, in this new DC universe, were presented in a special issue of Detective Comics (#23.1), during the "Villains Month" event in September 2013.

In this timeline of The New 52, Pamela Isley was born with a skin condition that prevented her from leaving her home, the garden was the place where she spent most of her limited time in the outside. Her father constantly beat her mother until he finally murdered her and buried her in the garden. While in college, Pamela sold pheromone pills to other students to study its effects until she was caught by police. She used a powerful version of the pills to mindcontrol the Dean so he would drop the charges and let her graduate from college with honors. While visiting her father in prison, she kissed him with a poison that was secreted from her lips that killed him.

Later she landed an internship in Wayne Enterprises in its Bio-Chem division developing pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications. She was fired after proposing Bruce Wayne to develop chemicals that trigger social or behavioral responses (basically brainwashing). As she was escorted out by security, she accidentally spilled the chemicals she was working with on herself, giving her powers to control plant life and immunity to all poisons and viruses.

It's not a Batman show.
It's set in the Batman universe. I know Batman isn't gonna appear in the show, it's in the same sentence.

I just think the show would be better off with ditching the whole "kid's versions of known characters" and focus solely on the Gotham PD and their villains.

Just don't make Smallville 2.0 and include everyone regardless of it making sense for the timeline.

So something like this then

Yes. I cited that as an example on the first page. I just think it makes more sense to focus on either a Gotham story or a Bruce Wayne/Batman story. Bruce and Selina as kids just seems gimmicky to me.

Still, I'll watch the first couple of episodes and if it's handled well and in a way that makes sense, I'll gladly eat crow.

is this like officially in the nolan verse or is it one of those dont worry about continuity and universes you internet nerds things

I will watch the pilot, because I'm a masochist for bad TV. Maybe they'll actually have a good dynamic, any show with Bullock and Montoya can't be all bad. Just feels like a missed opportunity by not making it Year One.

Because Gotham as a city and the villains themselves are more interesting than Batman and they never got a proper chance to shine because of how big caped crusader is.

Yeah, Batman ruined TAS.

Yeah, Batman ruined TAS.

Batman had like 1000 stories told about him. Who demand that the 1001 also be about him?

Gotham is propably the most fascinating fictional city ever made, but it never was properly developed. And yes..Batman villains are far more interesting than he is. As a character is is defined by his rogues gallery. Without them, he's boring as hell.

It has nothing to do with the Nolan movies. Like most of these type shows, it's set in its own little pocket universe. So yea, they can do whatever they want.

I'm running with it. Will be enjoying it for what it is and not trying to take it too seriously within the context of the batverse. It is its own offshoot thing and I'm totally good with that.

Hope it can compare to Arrow.

Still wish we'd gotten Kevin Smith's Gotham Prep series instead that he brainstormed on an episode of Fat Man On Batman a while back.

It is its own universe. It would be kind of silly of them to tie it to a specific movie or comic timeline. This way they can do whatever they want with the characters.
