I think the default harddrive is a main factor why the PS3 version of Oblivion is superior compared to the 360 version (much smoother experience with regard to loadtimes, in addition to higher rendering resolution and longer draw distances).

except GOTY editions are essentially identical on both machines, both 720p, both 2xaa, both with the improved draw distance and textures -_- the original 360 version was rushed to get it out the door, hence the improvements came in the DLC and the ps3 version

i really dont want to start a debate, but how can people seriously say that the ps3 controller is better then the 360?

For me it's a couple of things. I like the analog sticks better where they are on the PS controller. I think the bumpers on the 360 suck compared to L1 and R1. I hate how the buttons on the 360 controller are rounded.

All this and I have pretty big hands: 8 inches from where my palm meets my wrist to the tip of my middle finger.

So I'll be getting the PS3 version for free online (the main reason I chose PS3 over xbox).

360

Lead platform + exclusive DLC + Live + controller + all my friends are buying it on 360, even the ones with PS3s

No contest for me.

if you actually think achievements make or break a game then you aren't gaming for the right reasons

I don't think they make or break a game, but they certainly do add a check mark for the 360 side when debating which version of a multiplatform game to get.

Someone needs to compile a list of quotes from the stupidest posts in this thread (like the dude who said he wouldn't buy the 360 version due to green DVD cases :lol).
or the people buying it for achievements :\

Interesting, I thought the 360 version only got a shader update for improving the texture quality. Can you provide a source with regard to the other improvements? 600p is a sweetspot with regard to EDRAM usage in combination with Anti-Aliasing, loading times improvements would mostly relate to the harddrive.

It will be interesting to see how Bethesda's Fallout 3 will compare, they still have a lot of headroom on the PS3. Todd Howard (Fallout 3’s Executive Producer) - from Oblivion developer Bethesda - understands that PS3 “has more than enough power. No single game is using it all yet - not even close”.

One of the few in the orange column. Every GTA I've played has been on PC, and this will be no different. Gotta put my (now) four month old PC to some use!

That's the first I'm hearing about this. You sure about that?

Like MikeB the only improvements I heard were the shader update, but that only fixed textures at far. Load times, textures up close, object distance, etc... remained the same.

Obviously, but it can be done. And if you've got a multiformat game that uses HDD caching on PS3, they still need to support non-HDD loading on 360 for Arcade users

Yes, this is one of many reasons why I think and hope GTA V will become PS3 console exclusive if they want to achieve similar technical jumps as compared to GTA => GTA 2 => GTA 3 => GTA 4 Or by that time a new XBox 3 console would be out.

Not that I really give a shit about achievements, but aren't they being built into the PS3 version as well via Home integration? Or do people only care about them when they add inches to their e-peen?

Its like this board needs chaos...

Maybe you don't but a lot of people, including me do. And yeah, it tends to sway me to getting a multi platform game on the 360.

Maybe when they get their own system on the PS3, things will change.

My favorite argument: "I'm getting it for the home trophies, its much better than DLC"

not coming from this board

Getting the 360 version, because I dont have an PS3 and if I would have one, it would still be the 360 version for DLC, pad and friends.

Wow, you're really trying hard :lol

PS3 version. Debated getting the 360 version for achievements and DLC, but I can't see the DLC being significant, at least not at the Vice City level as MS claims. Free online sold me.

PS3, I prefer the controller. I think my brother will probably get the 360 version so i'll just lend it off him when the DLC comes out.

I would actually LOVE to give my PS3 some game loving, but all but a few developers seem to care that there are TVs out there that don't support 720p.

So long story short is I will buy GTA IV immediately AFTER launch, and for the PS3 if it supports 1080i, otherwise 360.

You hear that devs? I will actually BUY PS3 GAMES instead of the 360 version if you actually GIVE ME a 1080i version.

And developers/publishers wonder why the fucking sales are so skewed.. if it isn't apparent that the PS3 is still an afterthought in multi-platform development...

go check beyond3d, both versions tested 720p 2xaa

I don't care about online, and I've been buying multiplatform games on Ps3 lately. So I'm getting the Ps3 version.

My X360's manufacturing date is from early 2006 and the console makes a lot of noise. I don't want a rrod while playing the game of all games.

Knowing how much life Oblivion's DLC added to the game, the only rational choice for me is the 360. I'd *like* to buy it on the PS3, but when you combine the DLC and everyone I know getting it for 360... well...

Can someone summarize this thread? Is it worth going through?

When did people start calling the 360 the lead platform? I'm almost 100% positive they've been developed in tandem like CoD4 or Assassin's Creed were.

already bought the 360 version for $10 off. it seems like the version to get unless you only have a ps3.

probably due to 1up saying the ps3 version is further behind developement to the 360 version and runs worse atm. who knows which final build will be better though.

Just curious, why?

I'm assuming his TV has shitty component inputs. On my Pioneer plasma, you can't even tell the difference between HDMI and component during actual gameplay, but the Pioneer has great quality for all inputs.

PS3 for me. I have all three on the PS2 and two for PSP. Guess what ... I haven't finished any of the 5 GTA games I have. I don't care for DLC. Multiplayer maps are fine but I don't care for Episodes. I personally do not play GTA for the story. Its the open world that I like. Its more of an experience.

Somewhere down the line that may have been the case, but development definitely started first on the 360.

What if the episodes add another entire borough to explore?

I haven't completed everything I can do in Bully, but man I'd be all over a new section of town if I could get it.

I think it's just testament to the fact that everyone seems to play GTA differently. That's actually one of the most interesting responses in this thread, so far.

Wait. Lemme get this straight:

1) We know nothing about DLC, other than $50M was paid for it.
2) People are poo-pooing the DLC or saying they don't want it.
3) lol

What does this prove?Where did Rockstar say 360 was the lead platform? The PS3 online community is large as wel,the DLC you know nothing about, and its not coming out anytime soon.

Well, PS3 caused the delay and I know it's not Wii. Plus, I was speaking for myself in regards to "gypping". All of my friends are on Live and I know two other people with PS3s. Purely anectdotal.
