Initial D Extreme Stage (PS3)

Well, my description is kinda simplified. But after working here and having 80 zillion people watch this show and then think they can drift an SUV in a mall parking lot, I'm a bit "over" Initial D now. :p

I have no clue what this is about. Can some kind GAFer enlighten me?

If you like cars, it's one of greatest animes/mangas out there. Outlandish in the sense that racing is sooo big to these people in their lives, but overall, it's a great series. Cool cars, intense racing, lots of self reflection, morals, respect, incredible overtaking moves with the "zomg, how... did... he... SHIT" type reactions from everyone viewing the race, all to an incredible eurobeat type soundtrack. Epic on every front.

I'm so happy that they're working on this, be it another arcade port, or new game :D

That's fucking awesome.:lol

Any source other than Playasia that confirms this game actually exists?

I've played the series to death on PS2,PSP and spent a silly amount of money on the arcade versions and would love a port of Arcade Stage 4 on PS3.

It's probably just Initial D: Arcade Stage 4 which, oddly enough, I found out that all the hardcore Initial D kids hate. So much in fact that most places are reverting back to Stage 3 to appease the fobby masses.

When I asked what was wrong with it, I thought it would be something weird about the new graphics system screwing things up.

"It's not even Initial D! You just tap the brake and it's like Ridge Racer!"

"So you're telling me it's Ridge Racer, with ghetto import cars and a catchy, Eurobeat soundtrack?"

"YEAH! IT FUCKING SUCKS!"

"...sounds awesome!"

Initial D is OK, if you have a thing for racing and cars dressed in over-the-top manga/anime stylish action. I have a really weak spot for the soundtracks in the anime series though. I used a lot of Initial D music as custom soundtracks for the Project Gotham games on Xbox, makes the experience 10 times more exciting. :D

I will most likely order this.

While a lot of times the Initial D anime is stupid, the games are a lot of fun.

Im assuming this is the latest arcade stage just in console form with hopefully online play.

Well its not weird, the game mechanics are completely different compared to v1-v3. While the first 3 revisions of the game had some similarities to each other in the way you play the game , the changes in the 4th version are so extreme that calling it the 4th version might be a bit misleading. The way you play the game is changed entirely, and because of 16:9 resolution, new visuals, etc even the tracks have a completely different feel and you have to learn them all over again. Heck on one of the tracks, to get the best time you have to hit the inside wall on turns.

Also, i am not sure if those cars are qualified as imports because the whole thing does take place in japan, heck the arcade is set up for the driver in the right seat.

Sounds great.

With this and Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 3, the PS3 is the home for arcade racers. I prefer Wangan Midnight though - drifting through cities at night with Yuzo Koshiro music pumping into your head = bliss.

Maximum Tune 3 is on the PS3 or is it comming? I thought the PS3 Wangan Midnight game was different.

Yeah it is different. It's not the same WM. Hell it's not even WMMT. It doesn't even have Yuzo Koshiro. That said, it's still pretty good. But I wouldn't recommend it to someone who's expecting the arcade WMMT.

DRIVE QUICKY FAST DRIFT NICE SLIDE PSHHHHHHHHH 86 COROLLA WHOOOOOOO TAKE THAT TURN GOOD MOUNTAIN ALMOST DONE GRRRRRRRR

Disclaimer: 86 Corollas are pure win though.

Yes, with their whole 50hp, solid rear axle and 20 year old falling apart-ness.

Maybe if you pour like $2000 into them, they're okay.

And/or swap in a S2000 motor. But, I digress.

This game better have netplay or it's a total WASTE.

Presumably it will be based off Version 4?

Fixed.

Is this even a port of 4th stage? Or could it be another farmed out franchise title?
If it even exists?

Excellent. My PS2 laser has decided it doesn't like my Initial D disk any more, so I'm well up for this.

THANK YOU FOR REGION FREE SONY.

Finally.

Fuck yes!

Fun fact: Everyone who disses initial d dies a horrible and painful death.

I wonder why is that?

that looks kinda cool

is this playable for a person who doesn't understand Japanese?

Hmm...Dunno.

The game has this quiz thing. You must past the basic Japanese knowledge test before you can start the engine. Then the game will ask you a question about japanese history, culture, politics before every turn.

So...yeah..I dunno.

Play-asia is quite reliable, they were the first ones to reveal the US Metal Gear collection before it was even announced by Konami of US themselves.

I'm sure it's a port of the atrocious beast that is IDv4. What a horrible game. It will be nice to not have to pay 266 dollars to fulltune a car though, since I will have to get this anyway.

MT3 is better in all forms. :D

Yet they were also the ones that suggested a release date for Trusty Bell PS3 when the Japanese don't even know it themselves.

I don't doubt such a title will exist. I'll just wait until it shows up in the usual sources first before getting excited.

Well, Trusty Bell has been back to TBA for a while, ans there is also a difference that their mistake with TB is the release date, not having a new game listed.

Confirmed now in latest famitsu.

I wouldn't doubt titles, they don't just make stuff up. Dates are questionable though.
