It's been 5 years since the last console ZELDA was revealed. Is it time for another?

I don't get the Zelda fatigue complaints either tbh. Granted, I seem to be way more lenient at games in general than most people here, but it's not like Madden and the like.

I think people get fatigued because some games can be too epic to be played often, e.g. Zelda and Metroid. The fact that their core gameplay is based on exploration of large map areas mean that they need to be played in at least ~1 hour chunks for the 20+ hours they take to complete, as opposed to pick up and play style games like shootemups or beatemups which can be played for 5 minutes and then put down and replayed later whenever you feel like.

Miyamoto shot that down.

Did he? Please, I hope he did. I'm all for Nintendo trying out new things with the next Zelda (or keep it the same, I don't care), but FPA is the one direction I do not want to see them go.

Yup:

At GDC 2007, Eiji Aonuma gave a presentation on The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. At that time, he showed a brief snippet of an experimentation the Zelda team conducted -- it was Twilight Princess running in the first-person view. We asked Miyamoto if such a fundamental change could await players of Wii's next Zelda adventure.

"I don't necessarily think it will change that drastically, but I think that Zelda is a franchise that does need some big new unique ideas," he said. "And so the team right now is very focused on trying to find those ideas."

They should ditch the adventuring stuff and make the next Zelda like a fighting game or something, like a multiplayer party game. They could mix it up and have other Nintendo characters fighting... could you imagine? Link and Kirby battling to the death on top of Hyrule Castle. That would be awesome.

Never gonna happen though. Nintendo always play it safe. :-/

Won't happen til the next console...i want it in HD, 5.1 DTS 1080P splender...so yeah, not going to happen then..

lol that won't happen. You're dreaming if you think it's going to take four more years for another Zelda game.

I'm willing to bet Nintendo's next console will just be 720p, so yeah...

so basically you want to look at it ... not play it.
I want Nintendo to jump off the 80's train and join the new world. So yes i want to look at how great Nintendo's art can be in HD and how great Nintendo's musicians can be in 5.1

Is it really hard to want to play Mario 64 in a fantastic feeling world that looks so good you can taste it? ( Kameo comes close ) Imagine Zelda with Obivion like visuals with the Nintendo charm and gameplay? Yeah i'm bitter and i just bought a Wii, but 480P Max res is a joke...

Again, you're only talking about the aesthetics of the games and make no mention of any gameplay changes...

Fuck HD graphics...use all that extra power to do something like, iono, create a more in depth world, bigger scale, more enemies, fleshed out designs, better sound implementation, etc. Im not saying that I dont want the graphics to improve, because in my opinion, every zelda game has looked phenomenal graphically speaking. I dont want it to be where most of the power is going though...that would be a complete waste.

I sincerely hope this is a joke post.

I dont know there are 10 zelda games I think, yet nobody is getting sick of this franchise like I am. I dont care anymore for a zelda game. They have already made it awesome with ocarina of time, made it not zelda like like majoras mask and zelda 2.

I'm a Zelda whore, so yeah, a new game would be appreciated.

I wonder how much of a change, based on Miyamotos comments, the new Zelda will undergo.

Remember, this is the guy who thought that giving Mario FLUDD revolutionized the series. (I like Sunshine a lot, but seriously...)

I'm about 5 hours into Twilight Princess (Forest Temple) and I'm really really hoping that this game starts to get better at some point. It's not BAD, but it's just not GREAT. I'm playing the GC version (maybe that's my problem) and the HUD is intrusive, the controls clunky, combat meh, and the graphics schizophrenic. So far I can't help but be slightly disappointed. I've done much of this before...Zelda really does need a Galaxy-style makeover.

I think Zelda's potential is damn near tapped out.

Not sure where they could really go with this because Spirit Tracks doesn't seem that inspired of an idea as it is "Hey it's Link and he's on a train!"

I don't quite understand this line of thinking. Nintendo's in the entertainment industry, that's what they do, and for surviving as long as they have I think they know what they're doing. That goes for just about every development team out there really, they're presumably good at their job, sometimes a game doesn't quite live up to expectations, but that's the same for so many other forms of entertainment. In direct relation to this, Zelda will only find itself "tapped out" when Nintendo goes out of business, Miyamoto stops gardening, talking, dreaming, walking his dog, or whatever it is that gets his inspiration on...or the collective talent working at Nintendo as a whole dies. I'm not even going to imagine what would happen if someone else bought the franchise...

SSBB?

Seriously though...I always wanted a Zelda Kart racer :D C'mon, Marios got one, and I'd love to rip through Zelda themed tracks...I can't be the only one here :(

So why not just play Oblivion and Kameo? Nintendo's games are what they are, whether you like it or not.

The first dungeon is absolutely no way to judge a massive game like Twilight Princess at all, especially since it's the Forest Temple which, of course, has been done before. Wait until you get to the later dungeons.

Wouldn't a Nintendo All Star Racer be better? I mean Mario Kart is slowly introducing elements from others games.

Nope just a gamer who loves games.

Its not a black or white thing .. would I love to have a zelda in HD with shaders out the ass? of course. Will I get excited about it next gen when it happens? Yes of course!

Will not having those stop it from being a good looking and great game? No not at all.

An All Star Racer would be sweet, including a little of everything for the fans like SSBB, but maybe that's too competitive directly with Mario Kart? Heck, if they just included Link and a complimentary track in the next Mario Kart I'd be happy....for a while....

What's a Nintendo apologist, this is a new one for me.

Twilight Princess is by far my favorite 3D Zelda game--While it has many faults, and was not as amazing as trailer #1 and #2 made it out to be, was still an awesome game and one of the best games Nintendo has ever produced, behind only Maro Galaxy in my mind.

Would I take a Twilight Princess II ? Sure.

Although I would much prefer to see Zelda go in bold new directions, and I'm sure it will.

If Jak and Daxter did it in 2001, the next Zelda should have no excuse not to have a seamless open world. No more fadeout transitions between areas, please.

My ideal Zelda would be one that is inspired by the original Zelda concept art by Katsuya Terada and is focused on letting the player truly explore a mysterious but vast and rich world and to create connections with that world and the people in it that can and will be built upon in subsequent sequels in the series.

OMG that artwork is amazing. I've never seen those before, even though they're over 20 years old. Yes I'd want a Zelda game inspired by that artwork. Yes please :D

Since the release of Smash Brothers Nintendo has done fuck all to provide games for the core base of fans that made them a success in the first place. It's a fucking joke.

There fucking better be a new from-the-ground-up-for-Wii Zelda in 2009 or fuck me... I'll be pissed.

Disaster, Wario Land, Excitebots and Punch-Out am cry.

That said, all EAD Groups are working on stuff. Here's hoping they show some of it at E3, instead of saving all the good stuff for the October conference like they did in the last two years. :p

These always get me as the most awesome ones. Pretty much these and the original Wolf/Link TP pic are my favorite pieces of Zelda artwork period

I can never quite grasp what people asking for a new Zelda game "with that look" are actually asking for. :/

Great artwork, though.

I would kill a man for a Zelda game that pulled off that realistic yet classic style!

No seriously, I would put a screw driver through a man's eye and watch him bleed out at my feet.

I'll bet my paycheck on there will not be a new console Zelda this year. Since we are getting a new DS Zelda already.

But I wouldn't mind to lose on this bet

Indeed. The last time we had a game in watercolour, nobody bought it :(

Unless of course, they mean the tone and proportions of everything?

This is exactly the bullshit justification Nintendo will likely give us at E3 and TGS.

Basically this, yeah. Take the monochromatic colors as a general guide to the lighting of the game.

My only other wish for the new Zelda is that someone at Nintendo has taken notice of how well Wind Waker's style has helped it age in comparison to Twilight Princess.

How is it bullshit? There's a mainline Zelda game coming this year. Why would they announce another one?

As I've said, the problem is they keep trying to remake LTTP/OoT, when they should be throwing some of that out and building off the original Zelda for NES.

Non-linear (you should have several options on what to do next and choose your order to beat the dungeons in), action based gameplay. Still would be puzzles, stuff to buy and find, and people to talk to, but I think the action has to be one of the core components of the game again.

Now, to resolve the difficulty issues that would bring up so it would appeal to all types of gamers, there ought to be a "hard" mode where enemies take off a full heart with each hit instead of a quarter-heart or whatever ridiculously small amount it has in the last couple games. I'd also throw in a helper character like Navi or Midna that would steer you on a certain path, but could be turned off. That would give direction to people who would get overwhelmed/lost by a wide-open world where you can go anywhere.

I'd also have the game take place in a non-medieval setting, which would feel fresh. Mahito Yokota (Super Mario Galaxy) has to do some orchestrated music for the game as well. All the above plus motion+ would make for a great game.

I could definitely see them showing the game at E3 this year for a Q4 2010 release. They need something for the core gamers to look forward to.
