Jason Schreier's industry sources: PS5 is superior in ways that Sony has not communicated yet

Yeah I was one of those. That PS3 launch left me so disappointed so I shelled out and got a 360 to join it, and even though it sounded like a jet taking off, it was some great gaming years. The guys behind it as well were cool too, remember that dude coming on stage with his fake GTA4 tattoo? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Then of course Kinect and Don Matrrick appeared and Xbox got into some dark days man while Sony resurfaced.
Yeah the price of Xbox 360 and it being a full year out ahead of PS3 gave potential customer an incentive to buy. I mean what other console was out to compete with it at the time?

BOLDED: That would be Peter Moore. He has long since left MS though. But yeah what a way to unveil a game on your platform LOL

I believe series x will be full 4k whereas ps5 will checkeboard to 4k. Only digital foundry will notice the difference.
Both will be true 4K and if(later in the gen) games get to demanding....
PS5 is more likely to fake the funk.

Shocking that you say you're 42 but incapable of understanding the fact that Xbox 360 led in sales until 2014 when PS3 overtook it having launched a full year before the PS3 in November 2005.
I am fully aware that PS3 caught up to and eventually outsold the 360 in total sales. That I don't deny and its fact.
The fact is the Xbox 360 was a formidable console and the only console they produced that gave Sony a real run for their money. Granted alot of PS3 faults was self inflicted by Sony.

Not only did MS start to eat into Playstation's userbase built up from PS2 but they also started to produce compelling games which were enormously popular in their own right.
  • Halo 3.
  • Crackdown.
  • Gears of War 2
  • Alan Wake
  • Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2
  • Shadow Complex
  • Dance Central
  • Forza Motorsport 3

I have alot of friends that switched to 360 during those years because it was cheaper and graphically games were cleaner especially multiplatforms.
I owned 2 Xbox 360's at the start of that generation. So the 360 may not have wiped the floor with the PS3 but it certainly was stiff competition for Sony that forced them to rethink how they engineer consoles.

Its thanks to MS that we have developer friendly Sony consoles that don't cost an arm and a leg and that are dedicated to games. A lesson MS learned the hard way with Xbox One.
Shocking the mental gymnastics you just did. You make no sense at all with your frivolous comment of saying Xbox 360 lead in sales then when you get called out on your bs, false info you come and say "oh because Xbox 360 released a year earlier" (we also all know, knowingly with rrod issues just to beat ps3 to launch) which we all know. Try harder and learn that as a person you won't always be right and thts ok. How TF can a console lead in sales when the competition wasn't even out yet? Again launch aligned stats ps3 outsold Xbox 360 almost every month world wide at hundreds more. Comprehension isn't your strong suit and your argument was fallacious and full of holes. Next time make sense.

Sales was not a contest in what world? Bro you do know that Sony outsold Xbox 360 world wide almost every single month upon its release and at hundreds more right in its entirety? Sony's issue wasnt not outselling 360 bcus it did, it was that it cost so much to produce and Sony was selling it at a heavy loss. Bro I'm 42 and been following gaming forever.

Again in terms of games after Uncharted 2, Sony was wiping the floor in metas and goty winners and contenders. Xbox360 game wise only had a leg up first few years.
Why do you guys brag about superficial numbers? Sony accomplished more systems sold overall, but bled money excessively throughout the PS3's lifespan, while Microsoft was banking on all fronts by the 2nd or 3rd year. By the PS3 bleeding red in profits we got the awesome PS4.

Sony hit it out of the park with the PS4 because of price and value which I think they'll get close to next gen, but I'm sure Microsoft will gain some ground with the Xbox SX nextgen compared to the Xbox One currently.

Why do you care? I was correcting a misconception. If it doesn't apply let it fly. Who doesn't know ps3 was sold at a huge loss? The whole world should know. I even mentioned tht so I don't know why the explanation tht was already mentioned.

Anyway back on topic.

Throwing around insults now, and this over a discussion. Pretty shocking for a mature individual like yourself. Word of advice, be an example and set a good precedent for this forum. Abstain from insults.
I wouldn't normally go this far with a user but i'll give you this one pass.

Xbox 360 led in overall sales for 6 years until PS3 eventually surpassed it in 2013. This information is accessible to anyone who has a working internet connection and can access google and use search.
Even if the 1 year headstart is removed from the equation, that still puts Xbox 360 ahead of PS3 in total sales.

As for my comment directed at you, my point was that 360 was a very formidable console for MS in both sales and content. The reasons for this well known so i don't have to repeat myself.

PS3 eventually outsold Xbox 360 but it wasn't a walk in the park for Sony.

I'll just leave it there. Have a good day.

You must have been living in a dream world. That never happened.

If the PS3 outsold the 360 worldwide it was barely and it was at the end of the generation.

Really, sony has no games to show why you should buy a playtation.

Sony should be there showing APU photos, better to play hardware photos than to play games.

Anyone with the minimum of intelligence realizes that if MS doesn't say "most powerful console in the world" it is because the xbox sx is not. It seems that you xbox fans love self owned.

This post of yours, if you don't have the capacity to understand, because only an idiot would not use the "most powerful console" as marketing, proves that the sx is not more powerful than the PS5.
I just explained to you why the notion that the ps5 is “secretly superior” makes no sense. When their console is superior, Sony never makes a secret about it.
And Xbox has focussed all their advertising on the power of the series X. Every time they talk about it, it’s the first word they use. I can’t help you if you’re too biased to listen.

In all fairness, Sony is yet to actually reveal and market the thing. Their approach has been somewhat.....interesting with low level tech talk.

But then, I’m not so sure it’s a ‘secret’ which system carries the biggest game changing potential.

Yep, the fact neither company is boasting to be the most powerful is because they are both incredibly close to one another.

Devs have been saying this forever.
.
Trying to upload picture but can't. MS have been openly saying their console is the most powerful from the very start.

Sony isn't because they can't.

Read the fine print. They’re advertising it as their Most Powerful Xbox, they’re not advertising it as the most powerful next-gen console.

They’re not advertising it as the most powerful in the world, you’re right. But this ad would completely backfire it wasn’t. First of all nobody reads the fine print on an ad like that, so Sony would have immediately countered if they had a claim to the power crown.
Also Sony hasn’t released their console, so MS isn’t technically supposed to be able to substantiate this but they have clearly done their maths and they’re daring Sony to prove them wrong.
Why do you think Phil Spencer said he felt even better when Sony unveiled their specs? Because it confirmed the assessment made on that ad among other reasons.

‘Our most powerful’.
MS aren’t saying it is THE most powerful next-gen console.

The point is nobody is currently claiming it. Whether that changes in future we’ll have to wait and see.

Bro they literally have a banner saying "MOST POWERFUL" right there in the middle. Stop trying to spin it.

Why do you think Sony did the same with the PS4 Pro but isn't doing it now ? Because they don't have the most powerful, period.

Yes and when you read the full context it states that phrase means ‘Our Most Powerful’ it’s obviously shortened to fit neatly on the flyer.

The whole "most powerful console we've done" thing is so dumb. It's the most powerful by default, its the newest.

Read the fine print. They’re advertising it as their Most Powerful Xbox, they’re not advertising it as the most powerful next-gen console.

This was released before the PS5 got unvealed though, so of course they couldn't say that - yet.

I think this got even released after the PS5 reveal:

It's right there but bitbydeath bitbydeath is spinning it 1000 ways and grasping at straws.
How is it spin?
Do you have something where they state most powerful next-gen console?

That is my argument.
The words ‘Most Powerful’ are without context, the only context provided is when they stated ‘Our Most Powerful’.

All I ask is you prove they have said what you’re saying cause the words alone ‘most powerful’ is not it especially when their only context provided is ‘Our most powerful.’

Everybody knows it’s their most powerful, it’s the latest. There is no “our” on the banner.
The “our” in the fine print is there so they can’t be accused of misleading customers since Sony hadn’t released their specs. Even now there would be people disingenuous enough to say “yes most powerful on paper but we haven’t seen the ps5 secret sauce” like Jason Schreier is attempting.
The ad is sending a clear message to customers and you won’t see anything similar from Sony. Even the newspaper wouldn’t run it. They can count.

Let it go. The power crown goes to Xbox. Here is a teaser of 12 TF to wet your appetite:

It didn’t say it didn’t.
I’m saying neither Sony nor MS are advertising as being the most powerful next-gen console which is correct.

I’ve seen this quoted in a few threads already.

I mean, if it’s all accurate, cool. I’ll be happy to learn the details of these secret features, or hidden performance, or whatever.

I’m a little skeptical, given the source.

We are at a point where telling me isn’t enough, show me.
There's no secret sauce. It's just devs pleased with the devkit. Means nothing about power.

Yes you implied it didn’t. You said that none of the manufacturers was advertising as most powerful because they are extremely close in power. That’s wrong on both counts.
Yes MS is advertising as most powerful (since December and with a caveat in the fine print) and no, the power difference isn’t marginal or they wouldn’t have ran that ad even before Cerny took the stage. It was clearly based on intelligence provided by developers and industry sources. They’re not reckless enough to put out an ad like that if there’s a chance that Sony announces a 13 TF GPU (like Shreier predicted) a day after. They would have been laughed at regardless of the fine print that you know very well nobody reads).

I think he's missing something, the PS3 came out a year later and was always more expensive yet still sold more units in the end, that means it had to outsell the 360 most years they went head to head or it couldn't have caught up, it didn't just happen all at once they inched their way closer over time. The 360 smashed the PS3 in North America and the UK but Sony being the more popular brand globally they were able to not only make up the deficit but actually end up selling a couple of more million units overall. This is why MS will never sell the most consoles in a generation, they just don't have the global appeal, they have enough appeal and enough popularity to do very well in North America and the UK and that alone can bring them a lot of success but when it comes to overall sales they'll never be the winner there.

With sony looking like smug assholes, I really am looking at series x right now. Especially that I've skipped xbox one (have ps4) and would like to run my 360 games in 4k

Not sure why you perceive that Sony are 'looking like smug assholes'? But back compatibility on Xbox is fantastic, as is Gamepass and are two great reasons to help base your purchasing decision on, if indeed you are only going to choose one.

You just agreed before they weren’t advertising as most powerful next-gen console.

Did you find something that states otherwise?

Can you link where they specifically state most powerful next-gen console?
