Kay Plays |OT|

No way she goes into this blind if she has a GAF account lol

I downloaded and played this lately myself. I knew little about the game going in, and I am an active user here. Kay seems to follow games significantly less than the average gaffer, so I could see her being mostly blind to the content.

The only looks at the game I had pre-release was watching a Conan Clueless Gamer video and Giant Bomb Quick Look from two years back. I really did not get much content spoiled been a user here. Everything is easy enough to avoid if you do not go into OTs. I probably only knew two things - Rhianna Pratchett wrote it, and the main theme was Lara growing as a person and learning to cope with her situation.

Oh, I probably knew Lara fell a lot too, but that is common knowledge!

She doesn't read GAF. She reads this thread, and even then very very rarely.

Unless you monitor her internet usage at all times, you can't know this.

Anyway, I'm a pretty active user here and there are plenty of popular games I've not read up on that I could play blind. It's not difficult to believe.

Lol. Okay. I'm going off statements she herself made about her forum usage. I'd rather believe she's telling the truth than lying I guess.

The Metroid Prime series and Super Metroid are still my holy grail Kay Plays games. (Kay if you're reading this you would love these games.)

yeah, i feel bad that i'm not enjoying this LP. she's placing way too much stock into the story and exploration because it won't reward her for her effort, especially considering how spoon fed the story is. there's no lore for her to uncover, the game isn't that open world for her to explore. meh, as long as she enjoys it then she might surprise me. i guess i'll just anticipate her bloodborne LP.

Change of pace is nice I think. Wanna hear Kay cackling like a maniac whenever she shoots things with the bows or starts doing those crazy execution moves or dies from those hilariously torture-porny death sequences.

But yeah I would probably also want to see her take apart Her Story or something instead sometimes too.

Kay is putting way more thought into the story of Tomb Raider than I think anyone including the writer did.

ftfy :) ...

it's actually sorta painful listening to kay's attempts to find anything actually interesting or surprising about what's going on to discuss...

I think it's still pretty fun to watch. It does slow the game down a lot and yeah it will all be explicitly stated, but it's funny to see the ire some people post about that with - not every game is going to be dark souls obtuse in that way, in fact most aren't. I think it'd be fun to watch her play something like Bioshock Infinite though, also divisive but I'd like to see how much of the story she'd piece together before the game tells her explicitly what is going on.

I just discovered Kay last week I think. It's been fun seeing her make her way through Dark Souls at the oddest order. She's in Dark root Basin Goin toe to toe with the Hydra before even beating the Capra Demon. She's pretty good though and pays a lot of attention to her environment. I still wish she'd make it through Bloodborne some day.

Oh, you just wait :D

there's 'not souls-level obtuse', & there's 'embarrassingly juvenile'. which's also something a number of games aren't :) ...

I'm actually enjoying TR. It's a great game, and a refreshing change of pace for Kay. She needs to rest her cells, for BB's story anyway ( I am salivating at the thought of Kay, piecing that crazy lore together). TR is still a very exciting, action-packed atmospheric game IMO. Different than anything she's done so far. I really like the LP.

She'll probably miss not being able to kick her foes off of cliffs in Bloodborne.

Not sure if saying in her comments that TR2013 is basically a light metroidvania would be considered a spoiler or not. Maybe at the early point of the game, maybe?

I thought there was a new video up when is saw this thread active!!

Every time there are gaps in content, I always imply Kay is not enjoying the game, so not playing it, thus not posting videos...

Although, she is probably just busy.

Huge fan of Kay, but I can't do the TR vids. There is nothing for her to uncover that won't be shown through gameplay. Awaiting the inevitable Bloodborne walkthough. That will be fantastic. I bet she figures it all out on her own, too. She's got 10x the perception I do.

Whilst it may not be the best game for her, translating Russian, and speaking Russian on the fly, and trying to do full (well almost full) bow playthrough is entertaining to me!

Kay speaks Russian.

Is there a limit to these hidden depths(that are nowhere to be found in TR)?

Didn't she say that her parents were from Russia, or something like that? I think one of her Souls character was named Katja, too.

I may be remembering wrong tho.

Kay can speak Russian and she mentioned in the Fez video that she enjoys cracking codes, can we take this as confirmation that she works for the CIA.

I laughed when I saw she started up Tomb Raider reboot.

Oh... it has nothing to do with the game. I enjoyed my time with it and other than the bit of excessive 'shoot-bang' going on, I think a lot of good work was put into it.
My laughter came when I started thinking of the bow/arrow and how charmingly rough her bow aiming in the Souls games was. TR relies so much on the bow early on, it was definitely an aspect that made me excited to start watching these. :)

Since people are recommending PC games that can be played while we anxiously await the eventual Kay vs. Bloodborne series, I wonder if Kay has ever played the old Sierra Online point/click adventure games? I can't recall if that subject ever came up in an older video or not, but I feel some of those would be amazing to watch her work through considering the amount of puzzles, inventory management, and overall problem-solving is involved (not to mention the generally wonderful writing present in those games).

My initial recommendations would be Gabriel Knight 1 and the Quest for Glory games (particularly 1 VGA version and Shadows of Darkness). King's Quest V and VI would be worth watching, too.

Ugh, watching her try to use the bow when the game is railroading her to use the gun...
What a dick move game. Like, they just gave the player a new option to use but then that enemy can only be beat with the gun cause the bow draw speed is way too low.

No, you're totally right.

I completely ignored the story much like Dark Souls so this playthrough is interesting enough for me. The Japanese stuff seems really badly researched though.

Tomb Raider isn't bad. Her playing it got me to finally play it after having bought it on a Steam sale. I was never too interested since it's not really a Tomb Raider game to me, but it's a decent enough third person shooter.

I would love some QFG. KQ is a bit more hostile, with more ways to unknowingly permanently screw yourself in general. Could even grab the excellent QFG2 remake to avoid EGA and the parser throughout. Mostly, I'd like to see her play Shadows of Darkness, but it wouldn't be right to just skip to that game. You need the buildup of at least the first two games.

If this were anyone else playing TR, I wouldn't be watching. Hope she's enjoying it.

Yeah, as a Tomb Raider fan, i was really down on this game, because it's a bad Tomb Raider (very little exploration and platforming, A LOT of shooting) but as a stand alone game is pretty decent fun.

Acting is so garbage though, i can't stand the actress playing Lara.

Also, when i think about it, the Tomb Raider series itself is a LOT of garbage in the first place.

TR1, 4 and Underworld (and anniversary, because it's a remake)are the better ones, TR2 is also decent, but that Venice level is just shit.
The thing is, they constantly try to get Lara into James Bond situations, when she should be in remote areas, and the level design suffers from it.
A reboot is what the series needed, but unfortunately they decided to take Uncharted as a big inspiration, which meant a lot of goons and guns.
The open world concept that leaked some time ago looked more fun, even though it was even more weird.

same. while playing this game was okay, watching it (where you have nothing to distract you from just how god-awful the story, characters, script, & voice work truly is) is just sorta miserable (i mean, damn! - cd really got into the whole 'lara captured / suffering / in pain' thing, didn't they?)...

for someone like kay, especially, there's just nowhere to go with it: her attempts to find anything interesting just become sadder & sadder when you already know that there ain't nothin' there...

Hmmm... Has anyone ever suggested playing a Hitman game? If she likes stealth that'd be right up her alley.

Agreed- but don't they still have like two more episodes to release?

They do, but having Kay trying to solve the story pre-finale would be good!

EP4 feels like it is coming out next week (unconfirmed, I am guessing), and EP5 will be about two months after, so if she times it right, she could go through the eps (1EP a week for 4 weeks) and be ready in time for the finale.

I know she is not influenced by getting high views for her vids, but completely silly theory vids for the game are getting high views on YouTube, so having Kay come up with some thoughtful, smart ideas before the ending is revealed could be great - and may bring some new people to her channel!

Really liked todays longer episode. Didn't really like the Tomb Raider game but it's fun watching her. Makes me sad we prob wont get to see her play Bloodborne until next year since Taken King is next month and her bf is hooked on that destiny drug. Also MGS
