Kid Icarus: Uprising website updates and Palutena Tweets

Everyone go to creativeuncut.com, go to the videogame art galleries (you have to hover the mouse over the Japanese text at the top to turn it to English, even though it's an English site to begin with -- damn otaku hipsters), and scroll down to Kid Icarus Uprising. Then check out the two pages of art on file. The second page, in particular, is packed full of official art of the baddies. Some awesome character work on display, including one oddity that appears to be a treasure chest with the seductive legs of a lady. o_O

I'm assuming this the gem fusion screen? Do we know what Play Coins are for?

Well the bad google translation talks about being able to get more eggs on the plate,
I guess those eggs transform into either powers or items to use.

The "NEW: 95.6%" at the top reminds me of the gachapon machine in smash melee, where the more coins you put in the higher the chance that you got a new trophy was.

I'm guessing this is one of the ways to get new items/powers without having to play through the single player campaign. It's hard to tell though. I can't figure out what the half empty red egg is about. Is it a timer?

That thing is for getting new AR Idols (I think that's what they're called in the English version).
The more eggs you put in the machine the higher the chances to get idols you don't have.

Oh so it's literally like the trophies in melee? Hahah.
I actually hadn't made that association at all. For some reason I had assumed that there would be only a handful of idols- nothing to be compared to the hundres of trophies in SSB. Who knows what secrets this game will hold. There are so many weapons and enemies though, so I guess it would make sense to have something like the trophies in SSB.

You know, after reading this thread, the Japanese tweets, and (currently) going through the Japanese and English official sites, I'm starting to get really really excited for this.
It seems like the game has so much content and just things to unlock everywhere, it's starting to make me think it'll be like Dissidia where you're always getting new weapons and items and unlocking game modes and things.
Definitely getting it on release day, I just wish there was a demo since I want to play it, even if it's just a tiny sample, already! D:

Wait, don't you need the corresponding themed AR card in order to use the AR idols? Or will we be able to get them in-game, trophy-style, and view them in a model viewer like Smash Bros.? I would certainly love the ability to get the figurines without the need for cards; it would be cool to check out, say, Hewdraw's character model in detail.

Hm, I decided to check and I'm not completely sure but I think the AR idols and the normal "idols" may be separate. The Japanese website isn't complete clear whether you can use idols you've obtained in game in AR battles, but they do have separate sections which is why I'm assuming they're separate. Basically what I think is normal idols are just like SSBM/B's trophies which you obtain via the egg machine thingy (you get eggs either in game or by using game coins), and AR idols are AR card exclusives.

Oh man, I hope you're right. I -love- figurine viewers like the ones in Smash Bros., Wind Waker, Resident Evil 4 and 5, etc. It's the ultimate icing on any cake, and I would love to familiarize myself with all the new and re-imagined Kid Icarus characters this way.

A quick Bing translation does translate the prize to a "doll."

Well, the Japanese website shows a sample doll/idol (not AR, I think) for Pit and it says you can rotate and zoom the figurine on the top screen, while the bottom one shows a small description.

By the way dolls = idols.
They refer to the AR idols as AR dolls in the Japanese version and so forth.
The little egg machine minigame thingamajig is called Odooru de Pon, or Doll de Pon, for example.
...
I wonder what they'll call it in English.

I could kiss you right now. With tongue, even.

THIS IS FANTASTIC. And I take it that since you can bet coins to try and get new ones, that means there are many of them to get, which in turn means that in all likelihood, many if not ALL of the cool new enemies, etc, are available as figurines.

I'm sorry, this just stokes my inner geek so much. I've been mainly playing PS3 and PC lately, but at my core I still have a smoldering heart of love for Nintendo character design, and this is the best way to appreciate that.

<3 <3 <3

EDIT: Hmm, there's an AR camera icon in the corner. Maybe you can use them in AR for pictures and such, but in order to battle them in AR, you need the actual card?

O:

And no, you use game coins to buy eggs, you put eggs in the machine to get new idols. The more eggs you put the higher the chances to get idols you don't have.

And I hadn't noticed that camera icon, but you're probably right about its functionality.

The associated tweet appears to describe some sort of "ultra-fast" dash move that can damage enemies

Collecting idols in the model viewer is going to become another sickening Pokedex 3D-style obsession for me. Thanks a lot, Sakurai! *shakes fist in Japan's general direction*

Has there been any sort of rumblings of a deal on the game itself from any of the 3 preorder stores?

I doubt it, but...

Wow. You and me both.

I loved the Nintendo Gallery in Wind Waker. I've spent a considerable amount of time just reading there. So good..

The Nintendo Gallery had an impeccable atmosphere. And some of the TWW models (read: ALL of them) were drop-dead gorgeous. I especially like Mothula and Molgera.

Enemy: Star Pirate. Tribe living of hunting in constellations in the space sea of the Milky Way.
Since stumbling upon the 3 godly weapons by accident, they've become the third side of conflict between the armies of Medusa and Palutena.
System: AR Idol (that's what you call them, right? It's "odooru" in Japanese, so I guess a doll?)

AR cards for use with Kid Icarus Uprising. You can see the characters in real world through the 3DS' camera. If you face two cards against each other you can enjoy them fighting.

Sorry if I got the lore wrong, but I've been more interested in gameplay than in the story.

uh what. what is happening here?

some sort of dashing mini-game?

the relevant tweet: https://twitter.com/#!/3DS_Palutena/status/175096534273232896

I guess that has been answered already: I really liked that feature the other day. It's a training stage where you can test any weapon with its current stats (there's a try button when choosing your weapon). It's pretty cool: you have an enemy at the bullseye and you can move around freely, trying your dash shots, long-range shots, melee hits, whatever. It keeps showing distance to target and damage points, so you can get used to any setup depending on your playstyle / next level style. Accuracy, "magnetism", damage, speed, etc changes depending on weapon type, circle pad usage and custom stats.

I'm assuming this the gem fusion screen? Do we know what Play Coins are for?

It's a trophy generator, and yeah, you can use your playcoins here. Same as menus and other touches, it's pretty Sakurai-ish. You throw your egg upwards from your touch-tray. It flies and becomes a trophy... unless your egg falls down: it will crash and you'll lose your prize.

BTW, here you can find my hands-on impressions after those hours of gameplay (Spanish):

http://www.gamereactor.es/avances/11791/Kid+Icarus:+Uprising+-+flechazo/

Feel free to ask. This game is gonna be SO HUGE (and I think they still have something to reveal).

Wow, that's a much more thorough answer than I had expected. So I guess the different stats vary for the different shots (normal, charged, dash, etc.) I guess that makes sense but I hadn't thought about it. Does the damage change with distance or am I misunderstanding you?

Also, it looks like there is another post on this topic on the Japanese twitter page today. I will look forward to the translation.

I didn't touch upgraded weapons too much, just the ones that were available on that savegame. Even in the same category, you can have pretty different weapons stats-wise. And yeah, distance is crucial: there's a sniper weapon of sorts, so you better shot from a long distance to get maximum impact. There's a bow, it's a bit low, but arrows have some kind of magnetism. Other weapons are better in charged shots. I liked the orb-style thingie and the claws for some fights.

But everything in this game goes back to that surprising Intensity system. If you want a badass weapon, it's not like you're getting it via StreetPass (no one will share his best weapon away): best way is getting them from hidden treasures during SP levels. There are some intensity-locked doors (difficult enemies await inside), and you won't be able to enter unless you're playing on that precise level. It doesn't work either if you pick up the treasure and aren't able to complete that level afterwards.

They're plain ol' "Space Pirates" here, according to the website. Surely someone pointed out that Space Pirates already exist in Nintendo-land?[/QUOTE]Metroid overlap aside, I can't help but notice their similarity to Team Alloy:

I don't know if it's been brought up before, but it's not supposed to be a Twitter account made from the point of view of the Palutena character; that's just the name of the game in Japan (Mirror of Palutena instead of Kid Icarus). That bothered me. Sorry.
