Kitase: Would people REALLY want a FF6 remake with turn-based battles?

The wording is dubious enough that I'm unsure how to answer this.
Do I want a rebalanced version of the game for home consoles or the PSV with visual enhancements? Hell yes.
Do I want an iOS port? No.
Do I want and HD version with completely reworked 'modernised' battles (still turn based) No.
Edit: What I'm trying to say here is I'd love this if it got the needed care put into it. But I don't trust current Kitase one bit to touch this.

I would buy it and would love to see what they would do with it. Its not like the original game is going anywhere if they mess it up.

Everyone: Remake FF7!!!
Square Enix: do you want FF6 instead?
Everyone: Uhhhh... OKAY
What we eventually get: Lazy FF6 remake for iOS

I'd be for a console remake...if Nomura's FFXV team was handling it.

Their architectural details in XV are amazing which a VI remake would benefit from vastly with it's Victorian/steampunk look, and if they chose to revamp the combat, playing as Terra flying around in real time nuking things like Noctis is doing would be hype. Not to mention Nomura
has a crush on
favors Terra after Dissidia anyway.

Who are we kidding though, we're getting a fucking iOS game. XD

How out of touch are they with their fan base? This is really alarming.

Would this also explain why they would rather have Nintendo publish Bravely Default, because they don't think people are interested in turn based anymore?

So he's an idiot.

Lost Odyssey worked just fine. And that was a bare bones system. There's no logical reason for this.

They look at WRPG's and assume that you have to make real-time action-rpgs to sell now days. But really its not the turn-based nature of JRPG's that turn people off, its the effeminate character designs and illogical plots that do.

To be honest, this should happen on Vita.

It would be too much of an undertaking to make it on next-gen consoles. Maybe make that the lead platform and later release HD ports elsewhere.

I swear, Square Enix ask the dumbest questions...

Yoshinori Kitase on including Japanese dub in US version of FFXIII said:
"Are there many people who would like to play with Japanese voices?"
Shinji Hashimoto on a new Chrono Trigger sequel said:
"Why does everyone ask about Chrono Trigger?" he laughed.
We told him it's a very loved series.
"That's not what the sales tell me!" he responded. "If people want a sequel, they should buy more!"

FF6 doesn't work with updated visuals (neither does FF 7 really). It just doesn't.

I'm all for a return to classical turn based combat tho.

Any attention on FFVI, remade or ported to anything would be nice. Square's hard-on for IV and the previous games needs to die. Inferior!!

I'll take a revamped VI any way I can get it.

SE has been trying to reinvent the FF formula for so long, a return to turn based basics is what they really need. I'd love a FF6 remake with the same or near production values of ffxv.

I think what he's trying to say is that turn based in a modern console game is boring as shit, and it really is. If you need any more convincing, just look at the difference in popularity between Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy in the west.

A VI remake on handhelds would be fine staying turn based though. People want it the way it was before, and there's nothing wrong with that. I love VI.

But really for a modern game (not a remake) the only time turn based is justified for me is a tactics game like FFT or X-COM. When you have to consider terrain, movement and environment, turn based makes much more sense. Otherwise it's just slow, boring, tedious, and kills all momentum in the game. Turn based works better on handhelds because it's easier to play in bite-sized chunks that avoid the monotony, and because if you need to set the system down suddenly it's not a big deal.

FFX is the last turn based main entry I want to see personally, unless they make a Tactics game as a main entry.

never played ff6. but if the turn base is like the last remnant, paper mario, chrono trigger/cross, or even fire emblem, then i suppose i would play it. depending on the main characters and story of course.

Son, you need to go ahead and play the best FF game ever created.

Turn-based is absolutely the way to go. I'm sick of these rpgs me giving a party of characters and restricting me to only using one at time. The strategy isn't any deeper and they just beef up the health anyway so it still goes on for the same amount of time anyway. It doesn't help that you can't really depend on the a.i. for the partner characters most of the time either.

Yup. Bring it to Vita and PS4 and give it a full remake. I'm surprised they never did it with IV since it got so many ports and remakes. I would have liked to see full formed versions of the cast.

I wouldn't mind a 3DS or Vita remake. For some reason, I feel like as soon as I try to track down a copy of FF6 or get it off a digital service, a new port or remake will be announced.
Please try to track down copies of FF VI, VII, VIII and IX :D

On a more serious note: Yes, yes and yes. I'd buy that.

LOL this is pretty accurate

Am I missing something? To me that quote reads as him merely using FFVI as an example of classic turn based game play. i.e. designing a current gen game that plays like FFVI, as opposed to an old school style 2D game on iOS or PSP or whatever.

That's how I read it too.

I'd love a modern JRPG to use an updated FFVI battle system, but do I want a high definition remake? No. I'd prefer a new experience, thanks. If I want to play FFVI, I can already play a pretty near perfect game with awesome 2D graohics. But use the FFVI battle system as a baseline and make a modern active time battle Final Fantasy would be awesome.
