Man I can already feel the heat of next gen, really worried and frustrated to hear negative things about Orbis. I want Sony to bounce back so hard, but they just sound like they are in a tight spot.
If the hardware matches the Durango, I hope they can get shit together and release a timely launch library. They have the all-around exclusives, let's hope they can deliver on that.
I am eager to see Next gen PSN. The VITA PSN is fantastic, I can only assume PS4 online will be a brand-able service to rival XBL.

Just need to know architecture, type of ram, bus speed etc etc. A chip having more speed doesn't mean it will surpass the other.
By this logic, so should Nintendo.
Hell the PS3, while hard to develop for and costly to begin with, at least didn't have the RROD fiasco. Its still amazing to me that more people didn't give up on Xbox last gen given how many people went through multiple systems. Which is also the reason I won't be buying a new Xbox, at least not until a couple years in, if at all.

Also, using off-the-shelf GPUs for comparison is silly, because both consoles won't use them. There'll be modern tech in them, but the heat and energy budget of the GPU alone would make them unusable in a console in even a cut-down form.
I'll be very surprised if we get another set of RROD/YLOD'ing consoles which double as mobile heaters, as that was a costly mistake for both companies.

Is Sony in a position to really do that?
What is the typical timeframe for time between announcing a new console and it's launch? I'm having difficulty remembering how much time passed between Xbox 360/PS3 announcements and when they hit store shelves, but I seem to recall it being longer than 12 months. Seems odd that the rumored release is so soon, and we have yet to hear any official word.

So if what Kotaku says is true, Sony better hope they have a really good unique feature. I am still baffled that Sony would let themselves fall behind and why they also seem to be worse at communicating with publishers.
Most indications are pointing towards similar power and hardware between MS and Sony, so price should be roughly the same as well. Rumors have increasing put pubs having more support behind MS as well. It should also be clear they will have better services. And now Sony might launch late. In this scenario Sony would have to entirely rely on 1st parties, and Sony first parties are not good at making system sellers traditionally. Rumors aren't looking good for Sony, but they might not be the complete picture so we'll have to wait and see.

-a multi core CPU

People stayed with Xbox for one reason, Live. If my console red-ringed but my friends I game with have migrated over to Live, am I going to have my 360 replaced so I can play with them again or abandon playing with my friends? Pretty simple answer

I wonder if ms is going to throw some cash at mistwalker again to entice the japanese. They really should. Aslo throw namco a couple of bucks too or whatever they did to get them over to 360 so early.

What I want out of a next gen 360:
- Better Graphics
- Increase in FPS
- Real value for my Live Gold dollars
- Access to more online media
- Reliable Hardware

You're saying the "second most powerful PC on the market", won't be able to hold up a year from now? "on the market" can mean many things, but the higher end one's can go for upwards of $5000, so if MS can offer something like that at a price point under $500, I don't think anyone has any right to be upset.

As a 360 owner (no PS3), I'm eagerly awaiting PS4 news much more than 720 news. I feel as though MS has burned a bridge this gen, as a core gamer. Sure they built up Forza, Halo and Gears - and money hatted some timed exclusive DLC - but what gaming series' have they fostered? What developers have they added to the fold? It's as if they wanted to claw their way into the living room, using gaming as a way to do that. Except now, they've lost focus on gaming.
They underutilized Rare, lost Bungie and missed out on Bioware, Epic owns Gears and is Apples pocket, Alan Wake was late and disappointing, They charge for things that should be standard use on Live (Netflix, YouTube, Browser)....
Whereas, watching from afar Sony tried to build and foster unique gaming properties: Last of Us, Infamous, Killzone, Uncharted, Journey, Flower, LBP, Sound Shapes, Heavy Rain/Beyond....sure, some of these are obscure artsy/fartsy things...but incentivized gaming services like + (instant game collection, discounts) seem way more worth $ than something like Live.
Admittedly, I'm a single player gamer - not much online - but Vita integration and Gaikai might end up as a neat feature, too.

Highly unlikely as it didn't get them far the last time. Also Japan has greatly diminished in relevance for consoles, infact you are starting to see Japanese publishers turning their attention to the West.

Friends in the industry have point blank suggested: next-generation you will see fewer differences, if ANY differences in multiplatform titles. We will not have a scenario where one version is running at a much higher resolution, framerate, and the other is missing alpha effects, with QAA. The power arguement will essentially become a wash. If one machine is even 10% more powerful, you will be hard pressed to appreciate the hardware benefit in any conceivable way.
It will be up to first party to truly wow us. People hoping for any visual discernible differences in third party titles will be disappointed. The big question is- who can launch cheaper and provide more units.
That said, I can't wait for the PlayStation Orbis. The Plus service is fantastic, online being free is a huge plus, and the first party titles make every year feel a tiny bit special. Durango I will probably buy later on down the line since I'm fundamentally opposed to paying for XBL + Microsoft's First Party has yet to "inspire confidence".

Normally free online + region free would be enough for me to say I'm getting a PS4 over 720 without even knowing anything about either, but both of those are looking less and less certain for the PS4.
