Forza5 (still only known as the secret Turn10 project) is all new and its expected November 2013 so id put money on it being a major launch title.
Nice, it sounds like that could be a graphical showcase at launch.

You don't have to buy an Xbox. If you do buy one, and complain about it...that's just stupid.
Let's be honest here though....at no point in time have I EVER felt like it was a stretch to pay $35 (or less on deals years ago) a year just to use live.
It's a drop in the bucket compared to other costs. Not to mention the across all game, set in stone, setup of Live is more than worth cutting one or two people's yards, or doing some chores for if you don't have a job.
I honestly find complaining about paying for Live Gold to be one of the stupidest, most immature subject on gaming forums.
I just dropped over $300 on a new video card for my second gaming PC I keep in my bedroom (which I play online for free) and I still have Live Gold for when my wife or daughter want to play online.
Then don't. Stupid and childish to complain about.
In Microsoft's case you're not paying just to play online. You're paying for their well setup system that keeps the experience the same for every user without any effort.

660/7800 if we're lucky. Consoles are more efficient so the actual hardware might be weaker than those cards but still provide similar results.
PGR game? As much as I want that to happen it won't. Microsoft have Forza and the Horizon series filling their first party racing roster now.
Kotaku has always hated the PS3. Maybe Sony is doing a nice job of keeping details tight lipped? Maybe they arent talking to Kotaku about it. Sony could have something up their sleeve, who knows, I can speculate as well Kotaku.

Not very good news on ps4, which is what i was thinking of buying....

Sony charges you for additional services I might want, as does Microsoft. I'm fine with that. However, holding demos, and online features hostage until I essentially pay twice for my Internet use is as anti-consumer as you can get.
Live fees are not "stupid and childish to complain about". It's a legitimate and unnecessary paywall that many gamers have been bothered by.

I wonder why Rare hired a ex-Codemaster Producer, Senior Game Designer, Software Director and Lead Artist. Meh.PGR game? As much as I want that to happen it won't. Microsoft have Forza and the Horizon series filling their first party racing roster now.

I think it's safe to say you have nothing to worry about
Arguing that it is so cheap you should just mow a couple yards is inherently fallacious.
The cost isn't the argument, its execution that can, and should, be argued for.
Paying for a p2p connection is just ridiculous in the first place and should be argued against.
Companies love people like you.
I honestly find paying for shit thats free on every other device to be one of the stupidest most immature things you could be proud of.
Companies love people like you.
Like I said before. If it's free elsewhere I'm not paying for it. It made sense in 2005, not so much now. I'm glad you mentioned buying an Xbox because I probably won't be buying the new one.

Its what im expecting to be the first big "Oh Shit, next gen!" moment for me.
Is what free? It's a service you're paying for not the internet connection. MS don't have to offer a console with online gaming full stop, but they do, and you have to pay for it, and you know about that in advance.
Maybe. But I feel that $50 a year is a small price to pay to have a cohesive online service that is just in a different league than PSN.
Yeah if they want to put chat and even multiplayer behind a wall thats fine. I am already paying for streaming services Im not paying again.Again, I don't have an issue with them charging for additional Live services, as long as I can use my Internet and play demos in peace. And charging me so I can access a service I already have a paid subscription to? Nope.
What car will Dan be pimping for Forza 5?

If Forza 5 releases next fall then the hero car will be a car that is launching in 2014. Maybe the F32 BMW M4, C7 Corvette, etc.

PS+ is so much better value nowadays than Live Gold that when Sony gets cross game chat included with PS4 I really don't see any reasons to pay for Live.
What I would like to see is:
6-8 core CPU, 12-16 threads don't care about PPC or x86 (I would bet on IBM ahead of AMD though if I had to choose)
160ALUs on the CPU
Dedicated audio/video decoding hardware with compatibility for the latest codecs (HEVC)
GTX670 equivalent dedicated graphics power
80GB SSD
802.11ac
BDXL 100GB triple layer discs
8x read speed with acoustic silencing
4G radio for future proofing
I think that can be done for $399 with a small loss up front, maybe $50.
Again, I don't have an issue with them charging for additional Live services, as long as I can use my Internet and play demos in peace. And charging me so I can access a service I already have a paid subscription to? Nope.
You realise your whole argument boils down to paying $50 per year for cross chat functionality?See, I'm fine with that argument, if you ignore any and all features that it also entails.
Once you look at the feature set though, it's hard to argue you can get a similar feature set at the same cost anywhere else. In fact, it's impossible to argue you get the same feature set for a single cost anywhere else.
For example....say me and 3 friends bought the cheapest 360 @ $149, a copy of BLOPS II $60, and a $35 12 month Gold Card a few weeks ago. We all just spent $244.
Now, our goal is to have 4 player cross chat in any game...and if anyone wants to drop out..to continue talking in that same cross chat while the other guy plays something else, or watches netflix, or surfs the web. To do so we don't spend another dime or have to make any effort to connect/keep our group together. It's convenient, easy, and takes no effort or extra spending.
You show me any other system that can do that....that cheaply, exactly as I typed it....and that's including free internet.
Again, complaining about it is stupid.
Note: 90% of my gaming is PC based. I'd fall in the enthusiast....just below fanatic category.
Read the above. You'd have to pay more on other setups to achieve the above INCLUDING paying for Gold Live. In the PS3's case it can't even do a number of things during online games that a 360 can on LIVE..let alone a PC.
If your only interest is Neflix and Hulu...of course it's a stupid investment.
"The new Xbox has a massive 8GB of ram!*"
*4GB reserved for bloated OS for no real reason. 4GB actually available for games
Wait, really?
Plus if MS comes out next autumn, and Sony isn't due until spring 2014, I' m not sure my tech lust will be containable.

There is not as much confidence with Sonys new system, but we dont know why. Lol

Whoa, I wouldn't say 'it's stupid and childish' to talk about game related costs on a message board dedicated to gaming. There's really no need for the hostility and insults over a difference of opinion.
In my case I have zero problems affording live, I don't even have much of an issue paying to play MP on my xbox, but that doesn't mean I'm ever especially happy when renewal time comes about. Personally I'd much rather spend that money on a game, points, whatever.
I don't need cross party chat if I did I use my PC thats where I do 90% of my gaming.Well than all you need is a change off attitude/view angle.
Pay $35 a year for cross party chat and a multiplayer standard, get Netflix and Hulu access free. LOL
It has nothing to do with Kotaku. Why there'd be much confidence in PS4 after PS3 and Vita launches, I have no idea. No matter how you look at it, Microsoft starts at a better position than Sony. There is not as much confidence with Sonys new system, but we dont know why. Lol

The only reason I can come up with that gives me hope for Sony next generation is that MS is run by super greedy motherkrunkers, and that greed may make the xbox a poor value proposition for consumers. You know, like charging for Netflix access. and that that greed will squeeze develops hard enough that they will give more support to other platforms for no other reason than they don't want MS holding all the strings.
You realise your whole argument boils down to paying $50 per year for cross chat functionality?
+1, and that is the risk for Sony. I think there is a pretty big pent up new console urge, and one of them comes to market first with really good supply...well, I know I won't be buyin two $400+ consoles in the space of a year.
So whichever console comes out second will need to have a great hook to get people to buy it over the established one. It would be disastrous if the late launcher had no hook and third party games were equivalent or worse.
If I was in the games industry, and my job depended on choosing the right horse to back, I'd have real hard time coming up with reasons to go with Sony. I would love to be able to come up with those reasons, because I've always liked sony hardware. Well, except for their shitty mp3 players that didnt play mp3s in the early to mid 00s.

As a 360 owner (no PS3), I'm eagerly awaiting PS4 news much more than 720 news. I feel as though MS has burned a bridge this gen, as a core gamer. Sure they built up Forza, Halo and Gears - and money hatted some timed exclusive DLC - but what gaming series' have they fostered? What developers have they added to the fold? It's as if they wanted to claw their way into the living room, using gaming as a way to do that. Except now, they've lost focus on gaming.
They underutilized Rare, lost Bungie and missed out on Bioware, Epic owns Gears and is Apples pocket, Alan Wake was late and disappointing, They charge for things that should be standard use on Live (Netflix, YouTube, Browser)....
Whereas, watching from afar Sony tried to build and foster unique gaming properties: Last of Us, Infamous, Killzone, Uncharted, Journey, Flower, LBP, Sound Shapes, Heavy Rain/Beyond....sure, some of these are obscure artsy/fartsy things...but incentivized gaming services like + (instant game collection, discounts) seem way more worth $ than something like Live.
Admittedly, I'm a single player gamer - not much online - but Vita integration and Gaikai might end up as a neat feature, too.
After the stellar PS2 gen, Sony might have learned from something Vita/PS3 and every system has a third console curse, who knows....all I know is they need to come before MS.
I also have a hunch Last Guardian will be a launch PS4 game (hence it's mysterious disappearance and Sony being tight lipped on details)

Even considering all the mistakes that Sony made, PS3 sold 70 millions after 5/6 years. With Vita, Sony learned from their mistakes from PS3 and PSP. With a pricecut announced for next year, its main issue is the 3rd party support. It has nothing to do with Kotaku. Why there'd be much confidence in PS4 after PS3 and Vita launches, I have no idea.
