Kotaku: Silent Hills officially cancelled

Aw man. I know it's in style to hate Konami, but all I can think about is how long they were along with me for this weird silly videogame ride, from Game Boy until today. And now they're -presumably- gone soon, with this as the end of it all. It's a shame, really :/

Whoever's suffering and afraid of losing their job within the company right now, and reading this stupid forum: I wish you guys and girls all the best. You are the good guys, even if your bosses are maybe crazy people.

Knew that this new CEO was an idiot. How can a CEO just give a middle finger to its company. Man.

Bethesda took a loss with TEW ?
Source ?

The game was in the top 5 console NPD chart during its release.

I meant that Bethesda did well with The Evil Within, was being sarcastic to make a point dammit.

"Konami is going to burn MGS into the ground."

As if they didn't already do that with sacking Kojima. All Kojima can do is finish MGS5 quickly, make some bank and then bounce from the sinking Konami game-space.

I can't follow the logic that because Silent Hill was never a major hit that it can never be so. The first film iirc did really well with home video release, and Silent Hill is extremely well known at least in the US despite the references (mostly to fog) likely overshadowing dramatically that of actual first hand knowledge through playing of any of the installments.

Combine that with AMC heartthrob/bad-ass Norman Reedus and strong marketing, we could have possibly seen a Resident Evil 5 sales situation (if multi-plat). It's a surprisingly large pool of potential audience.

Seems like mobile gaming killing AAA games because the time and money needed for these are too much this generation and if the game fails with critics then its going to be disaster. So companies are happy with mobiles profits which requires less time and money without any problems from critics at all because they are F2P mostly.

I guess it means that Konami will want faster development on the series even at the cost of it's quality. I'm sure that the next MGS after Kojima won't take 5 years, 2 at most.

Hopefully the cancelling and a huge uproar will prompt someone else to make something new in this genre. While people love their tried and true gaming series it wouldn't hurt to have some new blood in this genre. I can't think of a better example of this than Cities Skylines. It rose from the ashes of Simcity's dead husk to be a better game. I hope we can see something similar with this genre.

Horror games are a dime a dozen. They vary in quality, P.T happened to be at the top without resorting to jump scares and being chased.

So freaking stupid.

The PT demo garnered so much positive pressand people were excited for a new SH game from Kojima/Del Toro, you had two great talents working on a gamethat mayn people were excited for and then the company seems to just tank it on purpose by ruining their relationship.

I don't get why Sony doesn't step up to the plate, offer Kojima/Del Toro the chance to make the game for them officially and fund it as a first party exclusive to ps4. They can call it something else besides Silent Hill so Konami can't do anything about it (As long as they start fresh and don't use any assets or things from the time under Konami.

The only wrinkle in this might be if Kojima has a non-compete agreement with Konami until "X" time.

Sony might just be biding their time, waiting for the opportunity to strike
remember Yoshida is friends with Kojima

A big problem with the latest Silent Hill games is that they were obviously on a tight budget, particularly Downpour (which I thought had flashes of brilliance). Big names, if anything, mean big money, so I was looking forward to their involvement in that respect.

I just think some of these franchises would be better off, hell, a lot of games would be better off if they would just dial it back a bit. I don't think Silent Hill needs a huge budget to be good. I think if anything, if I saw an effort that was more reliant on the story and atmosphere, you know, utilizing art direction to execute the presentation instead of being a graphical dick-waving contest that I'd feel better about it. Silent Hill does deserve good production value, but I think that can be done without spending so much money.

Sure, giving Kojima the budget he would have needed to execute this grand plan may have been vast, but it doesn't mean it would have been a great Silent Hill game. A great horror game, perhaps, but I'm not convinced it would have scratched that itch. Some argue that it would have been better than Silent Hill due to the concept, but the concept in the teaser was basically mainstream horror, which Silent Hill is not. It's fine to prefer one thing to the other, but don't take an existing property and change it to appeal to people that never liked it.

I'm not saying that this would have been the case, but while I was excited for the game, it wasn't really because Kojima was attached to it. I thought it was promising but the jury was still out on it. My point is, if they don't want to spend that much money, they need to take it in a more reasonable direction. I would be fine with a digital only Silent Hill game made by a passionate team with the resources to execute a realistic vision in accordance with budget. I thought Downpour was a brilliant game that was held back by bad management.

My point still stands.
We need verification from someone's twitter who's not associated with gaming at all.
There are websites that track this independently. I don't know about worldwide, but right now Konami is the one of the top topics trending in the U.S.

Only Metal Gear, Konami, Kojima could have an ending in such a way that it almost mimics the way Kojima would write his stories in MGS.

Absolutely deplorable. Fuck Konami.

It's so appropriate that opened this thread and started episode duscae at the same time, because that title screen music perfectly matches the atmosphere this announcment and monumental fuck up that konami has created.

Dunno why but I find this funny. I was pretty interested in getting it though. Would love to see how far they got into development. Show a video of what could've been and stuff as opposed to waiting 6 years for it show up it on unseen64.
