Waves is a really good twin stick shooter in the vein of Geometry Wars. Bang Bang Racing is an old school, top down arcade racer.

The trick I did to buy a bunch of games:

From the Features Items page Click on Indies->Click on Browse Steam's Collection of Over 500 Indies->Price Under $5->Select Steam Achievements under Category (filters out a LOT of crap)

You can then do some interesting things like sort by Metascore, even if you do that you can browse to the beginning of N/A Metascore games which are usually the recently released games.

I recommend Puzzle Kingdoms - $1.49 (90% off)

From the creators of Puzzle Quest, comes a game that is... similar to Puzzle Quest. The grinding and min/max elements are much stronger in PQ vs. PK, and for me, that's a good thing. I put in over 20 hours on PK and had a lot of fun doing so.

Also for fans of matching games: 4 Elements - $2.49 (75% off)

4 Elements is definitely on the casual side of gaming, but I had a nice playthrough with it. Rather than being a standard match-3, you are charged with removing blocks to clear a path for liquid to flow through the level. However many blocks become connected is how many disappear. You also have to deal with special blocks like ice and rock that take extra steps to clear them. The game also has a few hidden object levels in between "main worlds" - these are boring, but don't take much time to get through.

Also on the casual side, I think that Faerie Solitaire - $1.24 (75% off) is worth highlighting in case someone doesn't already have it.

Faerie Solitaire doesn't really have anything resembling challenge in it. There is only a modicum of challenge, and the story is laughable. That said, the core mechanic of matching cards in a reinvented version of Solitaire was fun enough for me to play through the entire game. The chains, combos, and special powers kept me engaged and looking forward to the sequel.

Lume is really really boring and just looks good in pictures... if you play it it looks ugly and doesnt even have a good charm on it.

Madballs : Ugh... its funny for the first 2 levels and then you end up being bored. Play it with someone who is interested in the game (coop is the only fun thing about the game) because if you dont you will faster uninstall it then you can imagine.

Iron Grip : Ugly and boring MP Shooter that is unbalanced

Limbo : Great first 1/3... then you end up with a boring as hell jump and run with an never changing INDUSTRY THEME.

Dear Esther : Its an awesome game but not for everyone. Its only narative and more like an interative movie.

Universe Sandbox : If you are interested in Planets and stuff this game is for you. But its not really a game. Make own planets etc... without a mission.

If you are an beginner then I would say get 5. It's fairly streamlined compared to older entries but slick as hell. If(when) you get hooked you will seek out the older entries on your own. Doing what it takes to afford them. Whatever it takes...

Bully is great, but I found the beginning a little boring. Definitely stick with it it you get it, which you should.

Analogue
I just played through the entirety of Analogue last night. Went down all the story paths. Took me about 5 hours, and about an hour was spent trying to figure out the "secret" ending.

If you like, even remotely, any of Christine Love's past efforts (Digital: A Love Story and don't take it personally, babe, it just ain't your story are free and available on all three major OSes), then I would recommend it. It's a much more polished game, and easily her strongest writing effort.

Poker Night
If you like poker games, and you like any of the characters included, I'd recommend it. Telltale does a good job with the cast provided, and has a solid poker game underneath. It was worth playing just to experience the dialogue/animations, but I love me some poker, so I ended up burrowing about 20 hours in it over the last year.

Bully
I'll let others chime in on this one, since I haven't played it in such a long time, but if you enjoy Rockstar's sandbox games, I'd say this is easily one of their best and most original.
