Last Day of Steam Sales: The List of $2/$5/$10 games

Any less than $2 games worth picking up? I have a couple gift cards with only ~$2 left on them that are serving no other purpose.

Critter Crunch. Definitely Critter Crunch. And you can message Cromulent_Word after you buy it for an extra copy.

Also, Gunstar Heroes and English Country Tune.

What does roguelike mean?

Well..
Rogue itself is a highly randomized RPG that takes place entirely in a dungeon. Death carries high penalties(usually permanent) and luck can make or break the average play-through.

Roguelikes take certain elements from the original game but offer their own differences. At its core Rogue is a pretty basic game, so typically roguelikes expand upon it.

To give an example
Diablo 1 would be considered a roguelike. It has random dungeons and loot but the player can always return to town to purchase stuff. Plus the game can be saved at any time to avoid permanent death.
Something like Dungeons of Dredmor is far closer to rogue. Despite all its bells and whistles it carries much of the same design-philosophy as rogue (punishing difficulty).

hnnnnngh This thread makes me want to spend more money, but I probably won't even get around to anything I buy until the next sale. I'll probably drop another 10 bucks or so just in case.

We don't have "get out of jail free" cards, but if we did, she'd have one.
Any recommendations on a game my wife might like? Something not too difficult that doesn't requiring twitch gameplay reflexes.
It's too bad Scribblenauts Unlimited isn't still on sale at Amazon for $7.50. Maybe it'll go on flash deal and get back down to $20.

If she likes puzzles, Toki Tori. Starts out easy. Eventually enemies are introduced but they're slow-moving. Later levels can get pretty tough, but if she's not into thinking that hard she'll still get plenty of mileage out of the early game for less than a dollar.

If she's an avid puzzler fan, SpaceChem. Thinking cap should be squarely attached from the beginning on this one. Get her to try the demo if you're unsure.

If she likes crosswords, sudoku, word search or other pen-and-paper puzzles, Puzzler World 2 is serviceable enough. The crosswords are squarely aimed at UKers though.

I imagine any of the visual novel or point-and-click adventure games would be fine, but I don't know anything about those.

I ended up buying the Broken Sword Trilogy and the Syberia Collection for a grand total of $5.73. Probably won't be able to get to them for months, but 5 games for the price of coffee and a bagel? Can't say no to that!

Planning on playing Scribblenauts with her actually, got it on sale last week. I went ahead and got her Mutant Blob, Puzzle Quest (she used to watch me play), and Bejeweled Twist (it was on her wishlist). Thanks for the suggestions guys =)

Picked up Deponia and Gemini Rue last night. Broken Sword Trilogy, Book of Unwritten Tales, Syberia Bundle and finally Zeno Clash this morning. Deponia seems to be the weakest of the adventure titles from some quick research but I needed something lighthearted -.-

Re-posting here because the Steam thread is now just people talking about how much they spent:

I'm in the process of looking over some final potential purchases out of the non-daily stuff, and have a few questions:

A) If I was only going to buy/play one, which Dungeons game is better? The original or Dungeons: The Dark Lord? If Dungeons 2 is better, is it worth the extra $1.25 or are they pretty similar?

B) Are the Cossacks/American conquest titles any good? It looks like there are at least 3 titles in there plus a bunch of expansions for $5. Seems like a good deal if the games are worth playing.

Got $1.30 left in my Steam Wallet and I can't buy Critter Crunch despite already having it on PSN. WHY.jpg Gabe. Why can't it be $.99? :(

Deponia is a lot better than I thought it would be. The main character is just awful but it's a very enjoyable P&C adventure game. Much better than I expected because I hated Whispered World.

Magical Drop V - $4.99. There is a demo available, too.

Very fun battle puzzler. It's fast-paced, has online (1v1, 2v2, KotH 4P action), and is constantly supported by the devs. If you like Panel de Pon/Tetris Attack, you will definitely enjoy this.

Highly recommended.

The last day of the Steam sale is almost always point-and-click buying day for me, since they very rarely show up in the daily or flash sales.

Bought the fourth Blackwell game since the Blackwell series never showed up as a special and I finally got around to playing the first three after having had them since they were in that Indie Royale bundle ages ago.

I'm really enjoying the Blackwell series so far (you can get all four games for $9.99); they're like the perfect balance of point-and-click and common sense. This arguably makes the games way too easy, as there was all of one puzzle that had me totally stumped, but it's nice that the puzzles actually make sense and aren't so much click everything on everything else.

Also picked up the Daedelic bundle since word on the Deponia games is good and Edna and Harvey sounds really interesting. It's almost $30, which is a fortune Steam-sale-wise, but isn't bad per-game.

And finaly picked up Hamlet or the last game without MMORPG features, shaders, and product placement for $2.49 based solely on the name. Surely I won't regret this!

Madballs : Ugh... its funny for the first 2 levels and then you end up being bored. Play it with someone who is interested in the game (coop is the only fun thing about the game) because if you dont you will faster uninstall it then you can imagine.

Iron Grip : Ugly and boring MP Shooter that is unbalanced

Both of these games are really fun with a group of friends. I'm talking 6-8 players. I have good memories of playing 'em with GAF.

Toki Tori and Audiosurf should be on every Steam list.

A quick reminder:

just over 12 hours until all the normal deals end:

t1357408800z0.png

What will most likely be repeated:

- Best selling games of each day from daily sales
- Community choice deals
- Best selling flash deals

Blind-bought the following:

The First Templar - Steam Special Edition
The Cursed Crusade
Time of Shadows
Loki

Just under $16 for the lot. Hopefully I don't regret everything.

Valve really hates money don't they? Steam keeps deleting my entire cart after I've added a few games :/ Oh well...

Happens to me too.

Stupid off-topic question time!!!

Do EA Origin games have some sort of achievement/trophy system?

I didn't mind Amalur on my 360 and finished it 100% but mainly to chase the achievements, I'm not sure I'd be motivated to play it on PC without achievments.

I have this on the 360 but for that price, I'm really tempted to purchase it again. Great game. How long will this deal last btw?

Not long probably, last time it was about 24 hours and the keys ran out I think.

It's already been up at that price for a while already.

Code itself is probably good for a while, how much of the game they have in stock is up in the air though. They ran out pretty quickly the last time it was up a few days ago

Thanks guys. Decided to get a copy. For $2, it's a must have if you enjoy this genre. Be prepared for some tough achievements, though lol.
