Again, what's your argument exactly? Do you consider this a wise move on Sony's part or not? I personally think it wasn't, but even if it was, it's kind of a stretch to use it as evidence that they should leave the PS4 to die in Japan too.
No to the open world. As an MH vet with numerous hours over the years I like the way the map is. The set up is multiple "arenas" that are linked together. Each "arena" differs from each other which you have to adapt to the surroundings. Some sections are very small with very little room for error and some are big that give you a little more breathing room. There are areas that have ledges, water, temperature changes etc. that gives advantages/disadvantages to the monster or the player. Monsters traverse some sections of the map not available to the player. Making those parts available via open world would impact the the "arena" aspect of the game.
the new MH game should be a F2P game thenSo the new fan-theory regarding this rumor is the Deep Down has become MH5 for the PS4?
I'll quote myself from the other MH thread on my opinion regarding open world.
The thing is Monster Hunter is not an adventure game. It's a mission based arena fighter with specific objectives. If they make an open world Monster Hunter make that the spin off and call it Monster Hunter Adventure or something. Keep the existing format for the mainline entries. Only change I can think of right now for mainline MH are urgents. You should not need to be the poster to "HR up". As long as you completed the key quests that should warrant the promotion when participating in urgents.

Does it matter if original fans know the difference? They can call it MH5 but fans will know what they are getting and make their decision on whether they want to buy it.
If true.
I think Sony have a bad deal with this.
It would matter to Capcom when the Monster Hunter clones end up eating their share of original fans looking for their fix.
I'll admit not being the biggest fan of the game until getting a used version of Freedom Unite on the PSP. Since then it's been a day one purchase every time a new one comes out. Changing the formula would really be disappointing to be honest.

I really wish they'd do this. If you've done the relevant key quests, there's no reason why you can't complete the urgent at the same time as the quest poster. It makes no sense to only have the quest starter count as completing it, as there's no incentive for others to help. You just have to hope everyone sticks around afterwards, but expecting people to play the same lengthy fight over and over again after they've won is unrealistic. Also, even if you're in a group cycling through, it's frustrating to play for two hours and have everyone else promote, yet have the team fail in the first ten minutes on 'your' attempt due to some foolish KOs, I've been eligible to promote and done the same urgent for two nights running, helping others complete the quest over and over again, but with hunters consistently bungling any of my attempts. Leave grinding the urgent for the people that actually want to for the materials, not those looking to move on, particularly when the urgent can be lengthy battles with fresh mechanics and a high initial failure rate as rookie hunters run into them for the first time.. Only change I can think of right now for mainline MH are urgents. You should not need to be the poster to "HR up". 31st January 2013 said:Another, and perhaps the biggest factor in the strength of the Monster Hunter series, is Japan's sense of community. Due to the nature of the game's multi-player system, particularly with the PSP and 3DS, when playing with others, you will almost invariably be playing with someone you knowmore often than not, a friend. Most people seem to get their introduction to the game from the people around them. "My boss talked me into playing [Monster Hunter 3rd]" says Ryouhei, a 24 year-old clerk who would spend hours after work huddled together with his co-workers. "It's fun to work together with friends towards a mutual goal."
The fact that friends are playing the game acts as an incentive for people to join in as well as keep playing. In Japan, a country with imperial origins, there is often enormous pressure to fit in in communities. When something is popular among one's peers, it's best to get in on the action, or at the very least know what all the hubbub is about. While this mindset has lessened in the years of democratic rule, it remains embedded in a large part of society. "On a trip with 15 or so colleagues, everyone but me was playing Monster Hunter on their PSPs." Kenji, a 25 year-old actor recalls, "I sat in the corner playing Final Fantasy on my PSP, while everybody else sat in circles of 3 or 4 laughing and having fun It was terrible. When I got home, the first thing I did was get a copy of the game."
Monster Hunter is pretty much tailor-made for hand-held consoles. This could be part of the reason why it has not caught on as strongly outside of Japan. Portable systems are much stronger sellers in Japan than in other regions. This could be attributed to several factors; the dense population leading to the development of smaller consoles with equal, if not higher performance levels than older, larger versions, and the abundance of mass transit, leaving large portions of the population with very little to do during the long train/bus rides to and from school/work.
I've just had a random thought: Is Monster Hunter's Popularity in Japan still attributed to the love of Local Play and Communities over there?
I remember this article from Kotaku speaking about it:
If so...wouldn't a console-only game ruin that somewhat?
I know it's been 4 years since then, but I want to know if things have changed.
Console only game caters to a different market entirely.

I feel like a proper made for console MH would be extremely expensive to produce these days.
What is a "proper made for console" Monster Hunter, though? I know people will say "doesn't look like a PS2 game" as the usual response, but what does that actually mean?
Well modern visuals is where most of the money would go to be honest.
The only thing that has changed is that home consoles have declined even more.

You do realise though that the PS3 wasn't even the best selling home console last gen. the PS4 is unlikely to match the life time sales of the PS3 and that's before we consider the void left by the wii.
Handhelds have also seen a sharp decline but that was from a ludicrously large ceiling that was unlikely to be maintained.
They have? Last time i ckecked a MediaCreate thread, PS4 was ahead of PS3 both in software and hardware.
Also handhelds have declined worse than consoles. The series peaked with Portable 3 on PSP.
By home consoles do you mean portable as well? Dedicated gaming is shrinking in Japan every year.
Also if MH has no appeal on consoles then there's nothing to worry about when it comes to splitting the user base if they do a multiplat version.
So you agree with him but have excuses why one decline is ok but not the other. Switch won't match 3DS either.
The part that is questionable for me is Sony specifically asked Capcom not to bring it to Switch.
It's kinda hard to imagine Sony acts like a malicious petty fanboy like that.

It's just business. Same thing as exclusives, except in Japan PC and Xbox don't matter much so they might as well not care if the game comes out in those. The point would be to try and turn around Nintendo's mindshare in Japan into Sony's.The part that is questionable for me is Sony specifically asked Capcom not to bring it to Switch.

If the goal is to boost PS4 sales... what else could they do? Why give Capcom tons of money to develop a game that would sell better on another platform?

But then again, Microsoft did the same with TR so I guess its common practise in the industry
the thing is, Toukiden 2 bombedToukiden 2. You can make an open world game that still contains arenas.

It's a shit game on a dead platform.
It's a shit game on a dead platform.
To be fair it was clearly designed as a PS4 game first and Vita game second.
Why would be Capcom willing to potentially harm a second IP in the row?
That was timed. New entries into main IPs being contractually completely exclusive to one plattform is still rare. There was Titanfall and Street Fighter V. Both didn't work so well.
When I played it, it felt like it wasn't designed for anything. It looks and plays like turd on PS4 while not scratching the hunting itch that handheld players would play on the go.
In the alternate universe this rumours casts this deal was made before the SFV deal soured Capcom on Sony. So the timing makes sense. But I agree with you, that's why I think this would be a bad deal for Capcom. Making MH more approachable is fine but alienating the fan base who paid you bills all this time is bad business.
But this also indicates that the series would still be staying the way it is on switch. So how would they alienate anyone, when MH on consoles hasn't been a thing for awhile. People who want the classic style as does Japan stays on switch. Everyone else goes to ps4.

I get that, but like how modern are we talking? Do people want the game to look like Horizon, or would they be OK with something that would be more in the range of PS3 if it meant that the roster stayed about the same size? There's just a wide range to explore here that I think it would be much more helpful if that was articulated more.
Because this would be THE next MH. That's what this entire deal is about. If it exists lol.
