Lol is this a joke? He would make billions? People would go insane? You really think that many people care for a version with some minor differences?
WeÂ’ve got enough millionaires here. What we need is some houses for regular working people.
If IÂ’m not going to do what I wanted to do there, what can I do that would be really beneficial to this community?
OP is the perfect example why George Lucas never listened to Star Wars fans. He probably realized most of them have no idea what they're talking about.
Doesn't he own Disney stock?Pretty sure he makes $0 on Star Wars sales now. Too lazy to check though.
I'm actually kind of surprised Disney didn't re-release these in theaters leading up to 7. Would have made a shit load of parents bringing their kids to get caught up for 7.
we really got people defending the cgi in the OT SEs huh

Does George Lucas realise the amount of money he would make on releasing the un-douchey cgi infected star wars orginals on HD?
He would make a billion dollars in 3 months. People would go insane. I dont need to see an extended alien mtv video in jabbas palace.
Smack some sense into his wallet, TatooineGaf!
Toss me to the Sarlacc if old.
Don't the original versions of the films not exist anymore or something? I remember this being part of why the remasters were necessary, the oldest versions available are the laserdisc ones, not the original workprints.

Defending Lucus right to do what he wants, he came up with it all, we have no say. A segment of SW fans are just entitled babies. We've seen what they'd do if they had control, the fan made films are some of the biggest crimes known to cinema, clearly have zero idea on how to carve a scifi epic.
I admire that he done what he wanted, not controlled by the audience or the execs, that's how he's always been. We'll always be observers, were owed nothing.
"Doing what he wants" has led to Lucas making three shitty prequel movies that not only were terrible movies by themselves, they also retroactively damaged parts of the mythos and characters of his own universe. Lucas is probably the prime example of why "doing what one wants" isn't always the best thing.
Also "we're owed nothing" is the laziest fucking argument ever in these discussions. If Lucas didn't want to be beholden to the expectations of his fans, he should have kept this Star Wars shit to himself.
The oldest Version I seen is the pre special edition vhs release. Wasnt that the originals?

Does the Library of Congress know what it's talking about?
They have asked Lucas for prints of the original films as they were theatrically released for historical preservation and Lucas has refused.
He wouldn't even support historical preservation. He's a jerkoff. Hopefully once the distribution is fully out of his hands Disney can do the right thing for us and for history.
I don't agree, I believe theyre responsible for some of the best moments in SW, the music, Obi Wan, villians and explanations for Jedi dogmatic beliefs are interesting angle's to view some of SW core concepts, parts of which are woven into the new movies, proving it has enriched it.
He created a journey that people are invited to enjoy, that's it, if you don't like it move on. The OT was shat on too when it released, the actors thought it was a joke, Alec Guineas joked about its shitty dialogue, but Lucas continued with what he believed was right. If it's not good, that's fine, it's his mistake to make.

Well thought out retort, well done.

In the future it will become even easier for old negatives to become lost and be "replaced" by new altered negatives. This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten.
Yeah what a moron!
Yeah, that must be why The Force Awakens flopped critically and commercially.
You're deluded if you think "Digitally Unremastered" is something that's going to sell to anyone except supernerds.
Best case scenario, the original cuts will be added as bonus features in some mega collection.
Now that I think about it, Id pay good money for a BRD collection of the movies and TV shows

you're deluded if you think selling nostalgia to the star wars fanbase wouldn't work
Lucas was a bit of a stubborn prick, to be honest. I honestly think a lot of his edits/additions to the original trilogy were done mostly to spite fans who liked the original movies more than the prequel trilogy because the prequels were more directly his vision while the original trilogy had more finger prints from others on them. The "NOOO" addition to Return of the Jedi was a straight up slap in the face.
Uh most of his additions to the OT were done before the prequels came out.

I know, the safest and most nostalgic films are given to make 2 billion dollars in gross earnings.Yes, a movie (with the original 3 back after 32 years away) that was the safest reboot route imaginable, didn't flop.
Shocking.
