Who's doing a recap of releases for next weeks? It'd be a good way for understanding how hardware sales can be in the next future.

Oh thanks for the info. So their school year end in winter right?
March actually. They don't really get much time off between the end of one year and the start of another. Summer vacation is a lot shorter too. About 6 weeks (but many students go to summer cram school during that time as well). No wonder they love portable games, they're never home!

3DS - 11.574.013
PSP - 19.908.874

By the end of the year, 15M x 20M.
That seems a little high even accounting for MH/Pokemon and the holidays, don't you think? That works out to a weekly average of 3x what we saw this week. Not even the 2012 average hit those levels.

Wii U under 5k. That hurts. It's also under Vita's 2012 YTD at this point. Incredible.

I actually expected Minecraft to sell more. Like, 20-30k seemed feasible.

So you think the 3DS will be down YoY by the end? I honestly can't fathom it, I think it'll comfortably sail through 5.5 million easily YTD.

Who knows, but I can see it being down for sure. 2012 had Animal Crossing, NSMB2, and a hardware revision to boost sales. 3DS is also down in MC by like, 200k YoY and that number is probably going to continue to dip until September. If it hits a difference of 500k or more by then, I don't see them making up the difference in the remaining 3.5 months.

A hardware revision can't be ruled out this year either. And I absolutely hope Nintendo do release one ready for Pokémon, hopefully before.

A month extra of higher sales? Even then it isn't likely. Ofcourse with the lack of competition this year 3DS might break records and I'll eat crow.
Yeah, I mean we'll see. But if the 3DS isn't able to shift another 3.5m (which was achieved last year with the help of the XL/NSMB2 combo and Animal Crossing mainly)...with a MH and Pokemon release then both franchises would have lost some hardware selling power.

A hardware revision can't be ruled out this year either. And I absolutely hope Nintendo do release one ready for Pokémon, hopefully before.
Really? I'm not so sure it makes sense to have another hardware revision just a year after one. That would make it look like a yearly thing.

Doesn't work that way when you have the holidays and MH4 + Pokemon launching which will boost the numbers to even more than the weekly 3X you're thinking.

Lol, so you think AC and NSMB2 sells more hardware than MH4 + Pokemon? 200k means nothing when the first half of this year didn't really have many games pushing the hardware besides AC/Tomodachi. Unlike last year, this year's third party games are all stacked for the second half of the year. The 3DS will end up selling more than last year, you can bet on it.

MH3tri has sold sold as much as NSMB2, think about that for a second. You really think MH4 won't be anything but gigantic hardware pusher? And as big as AC is, Pokemon will end up selling more this year, it'll sell a million or so the first week.

Yeah the revision will likely be next year. It's not that I question how much MH4 and Pokemon can sell, it's that I question how much of the fanbase for both is already on the system and how many will transition this year. I'm expecting very long legs for MH4/

PS4 and Xbone are getting FF XV, KH3 and MGS V and both Mario Kart and Smash are 2014 titles - i think we can say game over to Wii U in Japan.

Sure, a month avatar bet?

If 3DS hits 15 million, on either tracker, by week 52 this year, I choose your avatar for a month, otherwise you choose my avatar for a month. Deal is null if there is an unforeseen price drop or HW revision for the 3DS this year. Deal?

EDIT: Obviously avatar will be nothing bannable.

XBone is a non factor in Japan.

When are those 3 games coming for the PS4? Are there any other JP oriented games that will make an appearance and how often? We know GT6 - possibly XL edition - is all but a given for the console, but that won't have an impact. PS4 will need lots of niche and mid tier JP oriented games as well as big franchises such as the ones you mentioned plus Tales, Gundam, etc to comfortably lead the home console market in Japan. To really dominate they would have to get MH and DQ back on PS and Nintendo has an iron clad grip on those franchises right now.

Where the hell did I say I expect them to sell worse? I'm saying that if the difference exceeds a certain point by the time they release then they probably won't be able to make up the difference with the limited amount of time that they have to do it, there's a big difference there. But even on that point, NSMB and AC are absolutely as important to the platform as MH and Pokemon are.

What? It is below 10K? Holy shit. I was looking at PS3 numbers. Man 3DS is the only healthy platform there and I don't feel the PS4 will sell any differently than the PS3 throughout its whole life.

FF15 and KH3 +at that pricepoint of 399$ will give it a boost atleast provided they get those out in a reasonable time.

But as i said before :Before TGS any attempt to say wether or not PS4 sells gangbusters or fall flat on its face is just blind shooting in the dark.

Really? NSMB will be lucky to sell half as well as the games you mentioned and it's performance on the 3DS and wii U have shown that it isn't nearly the franchise that MH or pokemon are. Even though AC will sell probably more than either pokemon or MH4 i still consider both those games bigger when it comes to moving hardware.

By saying double you're suggesting 4 million for MH4? Are people still expecting MH4 to sell on the same level as MHP3rd? Months before release we already heard reports that 3rd was the most preordered game of all time. Capcom themselves expect much more modest results too, although they tend to lowball expectations with the franchise.

In 2011 (from week 24 to 52) 3DS sold 3.192.594 units.
In 2012 (from week 24 to 52) 3DS sold 3.557.132 units.

If AranhaHunter wins the bet, then 3DS will be down YoY.

In fact, 3DS will have to sell in the following 29 weeks 3.703.605 units to be up YoY.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just for fun, this is what NDS sold during the same time frame:

By saying double you're suggesting 4 million for MH4? Are people still expecting MH4 to sell on the same level as MHP3rd? Months before release we already heard reports that 3rd was the most preordered game of all time. Capcom themselves expect much more modest results too, although they tend to lowball expectations with the franchise.
MH3tri sold 2M, 4M is such a huge goal now?

Where the hell did I say I expect them to sell worse? I'm saying that if the difference exceeds a certain point by the time they release then they probably won't be able to make up the difference with the limited amount of time that they have to do it, there's a big difference there. But even on that point, NSMB and AC are absolutely as important to the platform as MH and Pokemon are.
Where did I say you said it'll sell worse? (stupid question)

AC is fine, but NSMB2 doesn't even begin to compare to MH and Pokemon. You're seriously delusional if you think it is. Like I said MH3tri sold as much as NSMB2, you think MH4 won't completely obliterate it?

The reason everything looks so dire is because we have one platform thats been on the market for 7 years, and two new ones (Vita and WiiU) that have flopped hard. There is a lot of room left imo for another console(s) to sell 30k per week. Either that or the Japanese industry has shrunk notably.

I don't think WiiU is going to recover so its up to the PS4 to fill that gap but from the way things are looking its not going to do that. TGS needs to be big for Sony. I recall someone saying Yoshida saying that TGS 2013 was going to be big or am I imagining things?

Sure, a month avatar bet?

If 3DS hits 15 million, on either tracker, by week 52 this year, I choose your avatar for a month, otherwise you choose my avatar for a month. Deal is null if there is an unforeseen price drop or HW revision for the 3DS this year. Deal?

EDIT: Obviously avatar will be nothing bannable.
Done and done! Good luck to you sir.

So it's not possible for Nintendo to sell 500k 3DS both in September and October, then 250k in November and 1 million in December? (going by both previous years crazy sales). And then sell roughly 500k from now till the end of August?
