According to sinobi, MH4 pre-orders are crazy.
Amazon.jp, Rakuten, Toys R Us, GEO or even Tsutaya and more... the game is sold out in this places. Until Capcom increases the 600k shipment, they won't take more pre-orders.
Bic Camera is the only big chain of stores that is still taking MH4 mail orders.

MH3G - (not in the top 20, only reached 800pt 25 days before the release anyway...)
If Capcom hadn't put such small initial shipment, numbers might be the same as MHP3. Sony/Vita fans might want to stay away from MC threads during September. Distract yourselves with Tokyo Game Show or something...

Why wouldn't Capcom bump the initial shipment? Do they want to stir demand? 600k doesn't seem like an extreme number given the high interest and this being MH4.

If Vita fans solace has been that somehow MH4 was going to underperform to make Capcom see the light that would be quite sad, unless you mean Vita hardware sales, but there have been much worse weeks relatively for Vita than what there will be in September. But I'm sure Jonnyram is right, why would the next mainline entry on the leading platform of the country sell double what the 17th version of MH3 did.

Yes, because the biggest reason to stay away from sales threads is MH4 performing well. Not the dire Vita numbers or anything.
Everyone knows MH4 will clean up. That's why it was such a blow when the Vita 'lost it', so to speak.

Have any major titles not been released on eShop? (Since they started putting third-party retail games on there, anyway.) I'm pretty sure that hasn't been the case in the US; not 100% sure about Japan.
Yes. I'm not sure where I read it but I have it listed as Digital and Retail and I assume retail only unless I read otherwise. Edit: 3 is available as digital.

It's the first estimated shipment. It will increase over time, Animal Crossing was supposed to launch with 200k as first shipment.

I don't know if it matters (it doesn't) but Epic Mickey 2 is launching on Wii, Wii U, and 3DS on September 26th according to Shinobi's twitter account (same day as WWHD).

Taking a quick look, EM sold 60k lifetime, but I don't know if you would consider that bombing since Mickey games don't really have much presence in Japan.

We've been through this already, this year didn't have as many release as last year in the first half. Without AC and Luigi, the numbers would have been abysmal.
No, every version launched in the west. The Wii U version was delayed and only came out this year though.

Nintendo getting Monster Hunter was probably one of their best decisions this gen.
EM wasn't a big seller ,but it wasn't expected to be. This will be no different.
