It seems Zelda Majora's Mask sold > 230k

The source is the blog.

Hmmm, that looks pretty great. Nostalgia powah, it seems.

Still pretty crazy a 3D Zelda (+ a remake) is going to outsell a brand new 2D Zelda game. Japanese players got a rather strange relationship with the Zelda series.

Pikmin 1 GC 502,996
Pikmin 2 GC 483,027

Pikmin 1 Wii 170,866
Pikmin 2 Wii 187,939

Ocarina of Time N64 1,147,068
Majora's Mask N64 601,539

Ocarina of Time 3DS 600,839
Majora's Mask 3DS ???

The new generation of gamers are making justice for the highly superior sequels.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

The relationship isnt that strange tbh, pretty much every regular 3D Zelda since OoT 64 has been good for +500k sales. The only real mistep was Skyward Sword because gamers had already given up the Wii and the Motion gameplay alienated interest for many core fans.

The core 3D Zelda fanbase was/is around 500k. Lets see if they can reach these numbers on WiiU - it might be possible if the game really delivers.
If I'm getting the puzzle right should be

238k > Zelda > 230k

That sounds very good - lets see what kind of legs the title will have.

Worries me as to whether we'll get another proper 2D zelda. :/

ALBW was brilliant but seems to have been just a modest sales success. Hopefully the development costs were significantly lower then a new 3d handheld game would be.

I'm not certain there really is a 3D Zelda vs 2D Zelda thing anymore. I suspect given that Zelda is an adventure series driven by puzzle/exploration/narrative, it doesn't make a huge difference for the fans whether the gameplay is full 3D or top down 2D.

I mean if we look at the last ten years of 2D Zelda, what do we have? 200k+ for Minish Cap, 900k+ for Phantom Hourglass, 700k+ for Spirit Tracks, 400k+ for ALBW. It's all over the place.

The last ten years of 3D Zelda? 500k+ for TP, 500k+ for OoT3D, 300k+ for Skyward Sword, 40k+ for WW HD, and now a 200k+ opening for MM3D.

I'm not sure we can really project much about 3D or 2D Zelda from these numbers. In the last ten years, we've definitely seen 2D Zeldas sell better overall in Japan, but I think considering the 200k+ opening ALBW had, the legs were pretty disappointing. We'll see if MM3D fairs any better on that regard. In the end though, I don't think it would translate much to success on WiiU, given the disparity in userbase. No one was interested in the WW HD release, but yet people are all over OoT and MM on 3DS.

The next month or so is going to be a huge test for the PS4 in Japan. Sony would do well to push marketing as hard as they can.
I hope the PS4 starts selling much better this year after relatively low sales for a Playstation console last year. Is 1.5 million this year out of the question?

Pretty good opening for a remake. Hopefully it has long legs.

Ninty should quickly ask Kachou Arino to promote this game asap lol.

For the legs, I believe this will had better than LBW with nostalgia power, the fact that this game is highly popular in hardcore circle and it is released in 3ds barren period, I believe MM sales will maybe achieved 500k?

Phantom Hourglass is definitely an outlier, but Spirit Tracks sold more than it should have due to the insane price collapses on the 1st week, similar to something like Tales of the Tempest.

The blog is infallible.

SW4-II ultra bombed

Well, they got access to MC numbers, don't they?

Have to admit, had to laugh when I saw the numbers for Zelda on 4Gamer.net.

And yeah, I think KT should really slow down with the Musou releases. There's just too much.

Not bad for PS4 too!

Majora's Mask 3D
USA: 340.000
JAP.: 236.000
EU.: 220.000

Total: 796.000

Good start, should hit the million soon.

But I think it won't have Ocarina of Time 3D legs.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
And the brand new "big" Famitsu - Media Create saga, regarding PS4 (always, and I mean ALWAYS, lower on the former compared to the latter) continues. IIRC, the difference is always 3-4k as well.

We don't know about that yet for the 3DS.

He's talking about YoY comparison in February. Up until last week, 3DS sales were just slightly below 2014 levels, but the drop wasn't that big.... until the week DQM2 remake came out.

Aostia

El Capitan Todd
wow at 3DS bump and Majora debut.
PS4 tripling the Wii U: and Japanese games still have to hit the console.

Oh man, just seen that I've missed the 2015 prediction league by a few hours. How many got in?
due to the sw/hw changes, forgot about it

Good surprise MM3D!
A bit retroactively disapointing for ALBW who was a brand new one.

The nostalgia / thirst for a somewhat darker tone Zelda is real then.

It's been that way for a while now. I don't see anything saving it. MS doesn't have any big name exclusives in the region.

I'm hoping the end result is the few companies still making shooters (Moss etc) now switch platform. Genre fares better if releases have more potential customers, plain and simple.
