Their [appropriate] response is to divest.

It's an unattractive market and they have low differential advantage.
what about remote play? and wouldn't PS+ be negatively affected in terms of appeal if it keeps the same price but lose 1 device that can take advantage of it? Plus, in Japan even a dead Vita is still as relevant (so far) as PS4 (in terms of LTD's number, PS4 will probably catch up with Vita in late '16 or even later, right?)

RE:pS+: Isn't it already a console-only thing to nearly everyone subscribed to it? Competition with XBL Gold is likely to set the price of the subscription more than anything else, in my opinion. Based on my brief glance at Best Buy and Amazon, PS+ is currently $50 a year and XBLG $60 a year.

Obviously, they have data I don't, and perhaps a significant fraction of people are paying for PS+ and only using it for the game downloads, not for online multi, but what sub-category of that sub-category would then be people who play a significant number of vita games? People won't feel ripped off by the loss of a feature they weren't using anyway when the barrier-to-entry on that feature was a $200 piece of hardware, and when the direct competitor's equivalent feature is ten dollars more a year.

Meanwhile, I'd imagine that if they really want to be able to offer remote play in the future, maybe they'll be able to make a peripheral that can sell for less than a functional handheld? I wonder if the popularity of remote play is a thing they can take statistics from the console about.

Making a VIta successor would be too expensive if it's only expected to function as a $200+ ps4 peripheral. I know it's odd using American prices and such, but even though the Vita is doing better in Japan, that still doesn't seem like enough sales to justify another handheld. If the Vita does not actively cost them money, then keeping it around as long as possible makes sense- a little cash flows in, and there's always the small chance that the peripheral features really do take off.

Vita games aren't driving PS+ subscriptions.

The Japanese dedicated market is just progressively more and more unattractive in general.

And games-as-a-service will be the answer to cloud-based streamed games.

I.e. nothing you've noted really suggests they shouldn't get the hell outta Dodge.

See above ^

I think everyone agree that Bloodborne FW sales should be lower than both Dark Souls considering the PS4 install base. It's the first big PS4 exclusive though so it should drive hardware sales but no one knows how much.

A safe bet should be in the 100-150k range.

EDIT : Awww beaten very badly, and better written than me too.

This news apparently got so scandalous that Konami has officially put out a press release to address the issue: http://www.konami.jp/osirase/150318/

They confirm that the two producers behind Love Plus and Tokimeki Memorial have left the company, but that both franchises are still very important to Konami and will continue to be supported. Damage controllllllllllllllll.
Lol Konami.
Are they waiting to see how Summer Lesson does before reviving this?

In earnings release news, VOOK64's reporting Nintendo's is actually on May 7th:

Pretty sure we'll hear at least a question about NX, if Iwata doesn't talk quickly about it first in his presentation. He may choose to not answer obviously, but he usually stays vague enough to satisfy investors with a few hints (is it a home console or handheld, should we expect it next year, have third parties heard of it yet, etc).

I read that as no.

Possibly in discussion to change that.
I think it's more the latter. They also might not want to talk about this yet, since this would be really an important move compared to the previous Pokemon showings on mobile, nearly on par with what happened with the other IPs combined.

I'm going to guess 125k or so in Japan. Don't think the Souls series is all too popular over there. This may have a bit of a Castlevania aesthetic appeal to some folk though who knows. Hard to gauge reactions these days.
