Microsoft Now Advertising Series S as a 1080p/60 Device

On both consoles it doesn't say video playback, there is no 8k on the front of the series x

1440p was always a weird way to push it. Very few TVs support it. They should just leave Res out altogether on series S.

Seems surprisingly honest for a marketing campaign. I guess because they want to focus on the improvements that Series X give you?

Otherwise I see no reason to not go "Game in up to 4K and 120FPS!!!!!" knowing 90% of people will ignore the "up to" part and probably won't be able to tell the difference anyway

This is fine. The average consumer couldn't tell you the difference between HD and 4K anyways.

You are so much better than those plebe!

Seriously, some people game on 1080p TVs. The problem is that the machine comes with a 500GB SSD and by the time you upgraded the storage it's about as expensive as the seriesx or more expensive than the PS5 digital...

Unreliable... now the question is where the 8k mark is lol
Just keep not posting bullshit to me please.

so when the boxes are displayed in the store/shop what would you see on the front of the PS5 box and what would you see on the front of the Series x box. One clearly showing 8k more than the other

just keeps up with your bullshit lol

They should never had marketed it with 1440p.
In TVs only exists FullHD (1080p) or 4k... not 1440p.
So you need to market the cheaper console to Full HD TV users.

Marketing 1440p will only make the potential buyers think "I have a FullHD TV so I can't have a Series S until get a better TV".
Or they might think they have to wait for the Xbox Series R or Series P.

S is genius when you think of it.

I'm sure a lot of PS5 owners will be frustrated they can't play the next Elder Scrolls / Fallout. And while a lot won't buy another expensive bit of kit like the Series X, every c**t and his Mum can afford a Series S.

It's more representative of real world games, but I don't think they had to do this. The machine can run games up to 1440p resolution (and even 4K) so the original advertisements were correct. Secondly, PS5 and Series X are advertised as 4K machines but it's rare to find games running in 4K native. 4K-ish with DRS seems to be the order of the day.

I'm playing all ps5 games at native 4k but a 30fps, so that info about resolution is correct.

Probably to avoid a class action suit for false advertising. You know how idiotic gamers can be over this shit. I remember when they tried to take Guerilla Games to court over them advertising KZ:S MP as 1080p/60p while it was using reconstruction to get there.

Some folks love controversy and just like to pursue it as the sole means to give their lives meaning.

Unbelievable... now the question is where the 8k mark is lol
Just keep not posting bullshit to me please when my post is correct and anybody with the box can check it.

I mean... the "rebolation" some guys do to make something equal be different lol

lol says the guy trying to call out an Xbox engineer on Twitter 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

I don't understand the fascination with mentioning resolution or even fps.

Advertise it as it as a cool little gaming console that plays all xbox games.

I game on a 1080p 40 inch TV. ;)

And regarding storage...

There isn't even 6 months and people are finding cheap ways to mod and upgrade storage. Lol.

I dont think most people know there is something between 1080p and 4k. Probably makes it much easier in people's heads and justifys keeping their 1080p tvs for longer. Makes people feel they arent losing out and can get invested in gamepass.

I am disappointed by its 1440p output. A few games hit it, like Yakuza and Gears 5. And Tony Hawk post patch.

Most however are dialed down to 1080p such as Forza, Fallen Order, Halo MCC etc. But it does hit 60fps in a lot of games. And as shown all Xbox One titles can hit that if they want to, sadly they're defaulted to Xbox One mode unless patched. Its clear that next-gen titles won't be able to output 1440p on this device though. But to be fair most PS5 and X releases aren't quite reaching native 4k either.

But as an S owner who even likes the device, I recommend saving up an extra 200 and get an X instead. It does everything the S can at higher fidelity, it has a drive and it has more storage. Even on 1080p sets its likely churning out a better perf (like Sekiro and FFXII being 60fps on X and not on S), and supersampling.

So should they market with 4k? Because they the max S output I believe.

1440p doesn't exists for TVs... it is either 1080p, 4k or 8k.

And in this specific case 1080p sells better the machine because most gamers still have 1080p setups.

That's not correct 😉
My Q9Fn from 2 years ago is compatible with 1440p 120fps for example (with vrr).
