Mueller Enlists the IRS for His Trump-Russia Investigation

Bueno. Trump is going to lose his shit on Twitter tomorrow and do a bunch of horrendous shit to try to keep this out of the news.

This is great. I honestly don't really believe there was ever going to be a red hot smoking gun in the collusion scandal. Maybe they'd find an aide, campaign member, or proof one of his kids colluded, but I find it unlikely that wed be lucky enough to find Trump himself with his pants down doing something easily impeachable that can't be handwaved somehow. But the investigation actually reaching into his past, sniffing out all the shady business deals, casinos, tax records, etc means there's a pretty solid chance of him going down for something.

This is the biggest news so far. IRS is not going to waste their CI's time. Trump is cooked..I predict Mueller firing very soon.

FBi director looks into him -> Fired.
Special counsel looks in to him -> fired.

If that happens, might as well pack your bags and leave the country and go to a south africa, since you're not that much better off.

It feels like this thing is getting big enough to collapse under its own weight. Everyday there's someone else brought on board or some other avenue to go down. Like, how do you even coordinate something like this? And if Trump fucks with the investigation, how is someone else going to be able to pick up the pieces? It's dizzying.

Yeah thats what I meant. He will keep firing the Deputy AGs, starting with Rosenstein, until he finds a stooge.

But that begs the question, do you really wanna be a stooge for a guy who is looking like he'll probably be in a jail cell very soon? And could possibly be going down with him as an accessory to an obstruction of justice??

I predict that Trump will try to fire Mueller and whatever vast number of DOJ employees needed to fire Mueller too soon, but it either won't work or Mueller will almost immediately be reinstated by Congress.

Well since he thinks the world revolves around him and he thinks the rules don't apply to him....I'll say they're on the jail. All of them. And he'll be joining them.....soon.

To be fair, he has been able to be a sexual predator, a con artist, a fraud, etc. for 70 years and he was still able to become the fucking President of the United States.

We live in a world full of enablers. It's time to put that to an end.

We are talking about a guy who deals with complex crime webs on the daily. Who also hired other guys that deal with complex crime webs on the daily. I'm pretty sure they got this.

Oh absolutely.

As special counsel, Mueller is subject to the same rules as U.S. Attorneys. That means that if he wants to bring charges against Trump associates related to violations of tax law, he will need approval from the Justice Department’s elite Tax Division. Trump hasn’t yet named his pick to run the division, which is a post that requires Senate confirmation. At the moment, career officials are helming the division.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA GASP HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

If Mueller is fired, its over. Congress won't do shit.

If memory serves me right, there's already one or two bills being made in the Senate right now- coming from GOP senators no less- to ensure that Trump can't fire Mueller.

Besides, even if Mueller himself ended up not being reinstated, I think it's clear that this investigation has crossed the threshold. Trump firing Comey was what got him here in the first place and now things are developing more and more rapidly.

If Mueller were fired, things would go nuclear, be it through whatever Dead Man's Switch(es) Mueller may have set up already or the IC leaking all sorts of stuff out to force the GOP's hand.

Uh, no. That's not how this works.

You really think that this whole thing's gonna up and go away if Trump even STARTS the process to fire Mueller?

Honestly I'm pretty cynical about this whole process. Trump has gotten away with so much so far, I find it hard to believe Mueller's investigation will amount to anything concrete, and even if he's somehow impeached I doubt he will actually be convicted by Republicans.

I sure would like for all of that to happen of course.

lacks enthusiasm.
The investigation doesn't stop even if Mueller goes anyways so Trump really has no good plays anymore except to be a complete asshole and cling to his base. It's not a comforting thing, given the repercussions the country faces the more desperate he becomes.

You realize it hasn't even been a year and we're this deep into the investigation right? Things are moving at a shocking clip. Watergate took 2 and a half years.
But it's also because today we're suitably high tech, and probably have all the millions of documents regarding the investigation in digital format. So its easier to search, sort and sift through, make notes, etc. Back in the 70's it probably took us a week to do what Mueller is doing today in one day.

I hope we still have a country left when it's all over.

Gotta love technology.

Probably prestige, if I have to guess. There are dime a dozen law firms on Wall Street. A suitably evil one would love to have someone who served as Trump's Deputy AG in White House. Or, whoever the person is can open his own shop with that resume.

Good point. People will do anything for some time in the spotlight...look at Trump.

I've been randomly audited before and the IRS no fucking joke... I had to explain $5 receipts from 5 years previous; stuff I don't even remember buying.

Notice how he's doubling down on all the abhorrent things his deplorable base loves:
Anti-immigration
Racist Sheriffs
The Fucken Wall
"Both sides"
Attacking the ACA

He knows the hammer is about to come down.

And goodness I can't wait for it to happen. I will be waiting with bated breath and an open bag of chocolate frosted mini donuts.

Isn't a tax department kinda crucial for a functioning country? How can anyone in government not like it?

The GOP are the "Smaller Government (tm)" party (other than the Libertarians, but no one takes them seriously and they tend to support the GOP anyway), a smaller government would technically require less taxes and a less robust entity to gather said taxes. Of course reality doesn't match expectations.
