Okay, I've got a problem that I suspect (hope) is a software issue. My PS3 (60 GB Launch unit) freezes like crazy while playing Dragon Age. Sometimes, it will let me play for an extended period of time (2 to 4 hours at the beginning of the game) but it will freeze every ten to fifteen minutes in some areas. Boss fights are especially prone to freezing. Currently, I'm stuck on the game as I saved right before a boss fight and it freezes up during the combat every time (I've attempted it 10 times) at various points (30 to 90 seconds after the fight begins). The freeze itself is total - you have to hold down the power button for a good five seconds to get it to turn off. The PS button does nothing. Only thing I can do is eject the disk. Even more odd, if the controller is rumbling at the moment of the freeze, it will continue to rumble until I shut down the system.
Currently, I do not have a freezing problem with any other game (or Bluray movies) although I've only tried Uncharted (the 1st one) and a couple of PS2 games. In fact, I played Final Fantasy X for five hours today without a problem. Still, Dragon Age continues to have this problem no matter what I try. Here are the things I've attempted:
1) Deleted game data and reinstalled.
2) Restore Files option from the recovery menu.
3) Restore PS3 from the recovery menu (didn't really have much in the way of game saves to lose)
4) Disconnected from the Internet and played it offline.
Is the Bluray lens going bad or is this just a software problem with Dragon Age? Any thoughts?
