New PS4 model (CUH-1200) announced

I'm getting tired of waiting for this to come out, doesn't seem like there will be any kind of announcement from Sony so I'll just go with an Arkham Knight bundle. My gf has one and the thing is whisper quiet. Plus it looks cool.

No it isn't. Like I said before though even the 1100 model can be just as silent.

Edit so I don't post twice. OCD guy, you've gone this far,but if you're like me and I'm a stubborn one, if it's not a hassle I say why not try a third one. What have you got to lose?

Guys is this worth the upgrade? I have a friend who can offer me 180$ for my PS4. Purchased in January. I am not interested in special edition console and also the size is already small enough so no need for a slim version.

So is this the best internal refresh we will get for now? Or there are leaks/rumor for even better version?

Now I know that of course any electronic product with a fan is going to be audible in certain circumstances, especially under load, and I appreciate that I am extremely fussy...

...I'm almost tempted to try one last one, maybe third time lucky? Lol
I mean, as long as you're self-aware about it. :p

Doesn't really seem worth going through the song-and-dance over and over. There is no golden system out there.

The only thing stopping me is getting one that's even louder like the first one. I've got that sort of luck lol. That would then mean that I'd have to do yet another exchange.

This is a brand new revision, there won't be another revision for some time now. I think the next revision will be a redesigned console, or at the very least a smaller APU when they're available for even lower power consumption and heat.

You're right. I've gone through enough consoles now from different batches, different models and while there is defintely variance between them they are all audible. The only "faulty" ones are consoles like this (wait until it builds up) https://youtu.be/8mX_lQTzXQY

It's not even just fan noise that's annoying me, it's the sort of "wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" high pitched frequency that's as annoying as it sounds.

I hear you. Nearly all PS4 consoles I owned made this kind of noise, some more, some less.Really hate that. Only thing you can do is to put the console in a different position or somewhere else. Might help. Of course this sound won`t go away but maybe you won`t be able to hear it that loud from where you sit.

But thank you for this little review. I think I`m going to cancel my preorder of the MGS Edition.

Can anyone in the UK confirm whether Tesco have the new CUH-1216 model? They currently have a good PS4 deal with 2 games for £289 so I'm tempted to go to them and pick up some clubcard points while I'm at it.

I must be the luckiest person on GAF, or those with quiet systems just don't post about it.

My launch unit is still super quiet. I never hear it, even when it ramps up, it is quieter than the PS3 in idle. It is also on an open 360° glass shelf.

I still am considering a 1200 if bundled with Battlefront this holiday, but not necessary as far as noise is concerned. Mainly for power consumption.

The console is the quietest ps4 I've owned (out of 5, 2 cuh-1000, 1 cuh-1100, 2 cuh-1200). It doesn't quite go to "hair dryer mode" regardless of the game, and whether I exit to the xmb while a game is running in the background.

However unfortunately it's still not quiet enough for me, whilst at first it wasn't audible from 6ft away, I've noticed a few times it has gotten slightly audible. Not ridiculously loud, but audible. I recently bought Arkham Knight and after a long session the fan was audible.

Now I know that of course any electronic product with a fan is going to be audible in certain circumstances, especially under load, and I appreciate that I am extremely fussy. But honestly I do expect there to be people to still complain about fan noise once the new revision becomes more common and more people get their hands on them.

Long story short, if a slim comes out I'll certainly be buying it lol. This latest revision is not necessarily the "golden ps4" many have been waiting for. But again I've only sampled 2 consoles, for all I know maybe I've just been unlucky.

Edit to give you a rough idea on the difference between idle fan and load here are two videos, one showing the quietest it is, and one the loudest it's been after playing for quite some time

PS4 idle fan noise https://vid.me/HRh2

PS4 load fan noise https://vid.me/IeQM

It's not even just fan noise that's annoying me, it's the sort of "wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" high pitched frequency that's as annoying as it sounds.

that sounds like my ps4 which is a 1100. I agree the wheeeeeeeee sound is the most annoying part of the noise the system puts out. It will always be there unless sony changes the fan design. turbine fans tend to suffer from that sound.

the xbox one also makes a wheeee noise but its not as loud and remains constant. instead the noise is from air turbulence and I find it annoying(might mod the grill to fix it). for kicks I turned on the ps4 when playing my xbox under load and it drowned out the xbox just idling which is kinda sad.

ill be there day one when a proper redesign comes out. I don't mind a little air flow noise but the high pitch squeal drives me insane.

Mind posting a video of what it sounds like under load? Does it also have the whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr noise at all? I've only experienced 1 PS4 that didn't do that at all you just heard the air quietly whooshing out.

That is how mine sounds. Just quietly whooshing out. Not even close to a whirl like the PS3 is. That thing was/is atrocious.

Ramped up is quieter than a PS3 at idle?

Have you got a video showing that? Without causing offence I find it hard to believe that playing a game like infamous, Killzone, last of us etc the fan is quieter than a PS3 idling.

A ps4 idling isn't that much quieter if any than a PS3, let alone at full load.

I should say my original BC PS3. That thing is a wind tunnel at idle. Always has been loud. Even when it was reflowed it still is loud.

So I've managed to cure the sound I was getting.

I bought some of these (more info here http://www.acoustiproducts.com/en/acoustifeet.asp)

They're designed to reduce vibration, and they also raise the console, so I thought allowing a bit of airflow underneath the console as opposed to it sitting on a glass shelf which remains hot as the glass itself is conducting heat would be a good idea.

As you'd expect they're easy to fit, just simply remove them from the silicone backing.

They come with 3m adhesive

Here they are on the console

To my surprise it's actually made a difference, the buzzing or "wheeeee" sound I could notice before has now diminished.

Buy it online and add bloodborne too, the offers don't cancel each other out so you can pick up ps4 the order, gow3 and bloodborne for 289.99. I just ordered one so I'll let you know in Friday if it's 1200 model.

So is it back to being quiet like it was before where you said even under load it was near Xbox level?

Why would you waste money like that?

Great bundle! Seems like its pretty official then right, the price drop? 1 TB for 399 and the 500GB for 399 incl. a full priced game

I've just accepted that I'm never going to be totally happy with my PS4 as it is. I've already sent it in to Sony once, and it came back more or less exactly the same. It was sent back with no details on what was done, aside from that its my original console I sent in. Its got just about the same noise level at load as my PS3 slim, which isn't great, but could be worse. Unfortunately its that same noise at a higher pitch, so its a little more noticeable.

I moved it to a shelf below my desk. The airflow is a little worse (than being in a completely open space), but its further away and below me. That much helps. Its got some rubber feet on there as well, but I'm not sure those made any difference in my case.

The 1200 units are at least a decent show of faith that they're trying to drop the noise levels. At this point, unless something dramatic happens, I'm just going to hold onto mine and wait for the future hypothetical Slim model. Then I'll just trade it out or give it to my brother or something. I'm glad this thread at least shows that the quality control is still all over the place. I won't bother this time around, and next time I know to test this stuff out early and swap it out with a retailer instead of dealing with Sony.

Does this store exist in other European countries ?

It doesn't, I'll leave the link anyway just in case some PTGaffers are interested in it:

MGS5 one will probably cost 450 ou 460€ no? I'm also portuguese and this bundle is great, let's see if they also sell the white version.

Yeah, I'm sure it'll be a bit pricier but at least that will be bundled with a game that I actually care for, not to mention that it's a limited edition of the system.

Just found the CUH-1216A bundle posted by Intel_89, this time on amazon.es !

It costs 20 € more but with Amazon you know it can be delivered anywhere in Europe so there's that. (Edit : Never mind that, it's actually 395 € sold by Amazon. 420 € was by a third-party seller.)

Edit : They also seem to have an Until Dawn bundle in Spain. There's no image though so impossible to tell which model it'll be.

Well spotted, I wished they had a Bloodborne bundle with the 1200 model.

Well I'd say that was likely part of the problem. Not so much for the reason you listed as the glass was probably acting like a heatsink making the PS4 itself cooler but glass shelfs are going to amplify the noise from the slightest vibration which will amplify the noise caused by practically any device with moving parts

Thanks! I've been having a look at the deal on HUKD that mentions it and asked whether people are receiving the 1100 model or the 1200, so far I'm getting mixed responses so it looks like it could be a case of clearing out old stock where they have it.

I read on a french site that the MGS PS4 will be a CUH-1116. I don't know if it's true because it seems they took their info from a Community Manager tweet.

Could be that the only 1200's will be the ones released in japan or something like that. I really hope not though.

It's also out in the Netherlands. Mediamarkt started selling them for €389,-.

You can also get two games from a selected list with it for €429,-.

Thanks for the update. Still waiting on the new models in Germany. I'm really struggling with being patient until the 1216a hits the stores here. Can't believe it takes so long.
