It may not get banned, but there is going to be a lot more controversy over this title than Resident Evil 4 once the mainstream press find out about the new setting.

Why because killing an African American is offensive, but killing a Caucasian is not? It's the setting of the game. Just like any movie set in Africa. I can't believe someone even thought of this. You're going to force this thread into being closed.

This is the only thing that will see me buying a PS3 or a 360. Tbh i want a PS3 because theyre fit whereas 360's aren't. But then again 360 is a hella lot cheaper and this holiday season looks to have a better lineup than the PS3. When's the Elite out in Europe?

Yeah like someone said, it's just resident evil 4 with more amazing graphics with african zombie people instead of the spanish ganados.

I can only imagine a little african villian like salazar to be in this game.

i am a little worried about re5's depictions of race. it obviously takes LOTS of cues from black hawk down, in which the somalis were rather a seething zombielike herd -- set a player loose in there to slaughter indiscriminately, and things might get a little uncomfortable. it's going to get some negative attention. black hawk down certainly did. even if these racial stereotypes are derived from western media, a japanese reinterpretation is likely to make all sorts of blunders.

This is silly, let's not get overly PC and stupid about it.

A man is in Africa, people in Africa become infected by some kind of virus, they turn into crazed killers, people try to kill the man, so the man kills the infected people who no longer have control of themselves.

Simple as that, it's not "look at that white man killing all those black men". It's only when people start throwing around stupid steriotypes and go around looking to be offended that stupid shit like half of this thread happens. If the main character was black would this even be discussed? What if he was black and was killing lots of white zombies? This is just stupid.

So what have we learned today? It's only okay to control a video game character in a NOT REAL LIFE VIDEOGAME setting if that video game character is of the same race as the people he's trying to kill? What is this stupid shit.

PC shit taken too far by idiots, when I first saw this trailer I didn't even think that anyone anywhere could think this shit, didn't even pop into my mind, I was like "Cool, RE5, looks great, hmm set in Africa? Interesting".

It's going to cause quite a ruckus, make no mistake about it. However, Capcom will be able to point at the earlier games and prove the idiots wrong. And get tons of free publicity.
 
i can't even remember whether i posted in this thread or not but the trailer was awesome. the setting is amazing (it gives you deserted feel etc.) and the fact that the zombies can run is something i'm fine with.

resident hotel rwanda, amazing.
 
I was expecting something a little more different this time around, it looks way too similar to RE4: An underdeveloped village away from civilization full of infected humans weilding sickles, knives, and chainsaws. The X05 teaser gave me the impression that we'd be seeing 28dayslater-tier zombies which would have been awesome IMO.

Oh well, at least Capcom is playing it safe and we can be assured that RE5 will be fun to play even if it won't be original.
 
It may have the same type of environment as RE4, but what struck me about the trailer is just how different this one feels from the others, including RE4. I think the tone and atmosphere is quite distinct enough.
 
If I know Capcom, then I'm going to say that they're aware of the potential criticism due to racism and will put a variety of enemies in the game.
 
Perhaps Capcom will insert some social commentary in there. Maybe the virus infecting the African population being a metaphor of how the West exploits the continent? Amirite?

In Grand Theft Auto you can kill black people, caucasians, etc...
Was that banned?
In motion picture Black Hawk Down the protagonists where killing Somalians that were black...

I mean in a movie/game if the scenario necessitates that the caucasian protagonist must kill some black people because (according to scenario) they are insane, then we should call that racism????

1- We are discussing the game.

2- I'm not one of the people criticizing the game, so you don't have to explain why this game's setting is acceptable. I'm just telling you, don't be surprised/pissed off when you see Al Sharpton or someone on CNN talking about the game needing to be banned and stores like Wal-Mart refusing to carry it after the ESRB decides to give it an AO rating for "insensitive violence" or something.

But that's assuming Capcom doesn't make changes for it's release outside of Japan, which I have a feeling they will.

As usual you will need to install an x264 decoder, Install this build of FFDSHOW and checkmark H264 decoding when installing. The file will not play in Quicktime because it doesnt support some of the advanced features that x264 has. You will need to open it in another player (Windows Media, Media Player Classic, VLC etc).

Its on the XBL market place, where I captured it from. Video #8 in the E3 section.
 
Well if this game is supposedly going to get banned the least GAF could do is follow suit and do some bannings in this thread :D
 
Well, it's not like they can remove these guys and put dinosaurs instead like carmaggedon, the setting is Africa and I've heard that being black is pretty popular there, so I don't think they could replace these enemies with white guys, because it would make little to no sense. Hopefully they won't get the banstick, or else they would have to change a lot of things.

People need to look at the trailer again. Theres a number of white guys, and Hispanic looking guys.
 
Holy crap that looks awesome. They are serious this time with the horror thing, looks a lot more "mature" than RE4.
