I wish Nintendo would make a new Super Mario World in the SNES style. Not necessarily has to be sprites, but taking the colors there and making a platformer out of it in the mold of that Wario Shake It platformer, or Donkey Kong Country Wii. I've never understood why they haven't made a game in that mold again, or any of the "SNES style" for that matter - like a Zelda game styled after Link to the Past.

I'm not so sure about that - I doubt they'd show off a really big third-party early (eg. Monster Hunter) but I wouldn't be surprised to see smaller third-party titles be revealed before the event and then worked into the presentation (think the 3rd party promo reels they always show.)
But it's kind of a moot point, since this week seems focused on Vita.

And on 3DS, it would look fantastic. I'm still waiting for someone to do something along those lines in 3D. So far, Mutant Mudds seems to be about the only thing on the docket. Wish they'd port Muramasa over. All those layers of parallax would be a wet dream on 3DS.

Does Nintendo even have a lot of great sprite artists anymore? Most of their internal stuff has been 3D.

I like a lot of YIDS conceptually. The different characters with unique abilities is a neat idea. The game just wasn't very well designed.
