I'm happy mario is getting backgrounds now, maybe it'll stand a chance against donkey kong in terms of visuals.

Can't watch the stream here - can someone post the exact "no 3DS at E3" quote? Would seem to contradict a number of previous Iwata statements, as well as the Mirror of Fate teaser.

The MiiVerse stuff is cool, but he didn't show anything that differentiates it from other online infrastructures, despite claiming to. Heck, most of that stuff launched with the Vita, including sending ingame content and whatnot.

Still, it's good Nintendo is finally approaching online aspects seriously.

Out of curiosity, what handles its online system in the same way? I've never seen anything quite like the Miiverse. Thought it was pretty engaging actually.

Everything they showed looks awesome.

improvement on art style, thank god. still could be better, but the background looks nice.

controller is awesome. i wish the buttons and stick on the right were swapped, but then it wouldn't match the Upad layout.

Nintendo be copying everyone up in this shit.

Don't know if it went through earlier, but that Wii Fit stuff with the social gaming crap and tablet GUI for your weight, stats, etc will make them a shitload. I could see the camera even being used for group workout sessions or something. They could make a shitload.

There is so much ammo Nintendo gave its unreal.

Wii U Pro controller looks like the most uncomfortable monstrosity ever. Was completely unimpressed by everything except the hilariously awful/awesome comedy skits.

Nintendo drove the E3 hype train off the cliff for me. Banking on MS to get it back on track, could be a big mistake.

Soo after finaly being here on GAF after manny 500 errors for me my conclusion:

Nintendo goes Social, that is what I got out of the Nintendo direct.

But we haven't seen the overall OS, have we? The Miiverse is a social thing we see when we boot up the console, but iwata said the normal OS is on the controller and it is changable.

Furthermore, was that Zombie game and the Mario Overworld real games? This Zombie thing didn't look too hot to be honest and Mario just looked like the NSMBMii Demo at last E3.

What is about voice chat while playing online, Iwata haven't said a word about it...

But I'm still hyped :)

IMO everything shown is the kind of complete social integration that PSN and XBL should have had all this time. Based on what's been shown here, it seems it could be much more than just playing catch-up to XBL and PSN. This actually does take all the competitive feature and wraps them up in an even more expansive, potentially more cohesive, network and interface.

Nintendo is definitely building on what XBL, the leading online platform in terms of features and integration, has done. But true to form, they seem to have tried hard to come up with a fresh spin on things.

There's already a lot of people saying "they're doing it wrong, noooo!" across the net, but I don't think they're understanding what the presentation was getting at. It seems Wii U online has all the expected features. The Miiverse start-up screen isn't even the only dashboard - there's a more conventional dash available for use either on the controller or the screen, and they can be swapped at any time.

Ok can anyone summarise what was said? I was only able to connect at 12 when non-specific action figure guy called four-wheeled grandad.

I don't have the exact quote but what he said was that Nintendo's conference would be basically WiiU only but that there would be lots of 3DS information spread throughout the actual convention proceedings.

The whole active feed between players with sending different emotes and having both developers and other plays send ingame content to each other is all done on the Vita

Albeit it's done slightly different here but it's essentially the same thing

Only nintendo takes a half and hour to go "we have a social network and a webcam".

While I think these features are neat, I'm just glad they got this stuff out of the way before the main conference. Although, will the main conference have games, or is that what the software conference is?

At least, if everything goes right, it seems that finally wii-style, gimmicky wiimote motion control will only be a bad memory of the past.

The additions shown in the video are really innovative, now Nintendo also invented:

-Clickable sticks for the Gamepad
-DS3/360 like black controller
-Text messages also available in smartphones or handhelds
-Videochat
-Online plaza to meet the avatars of friends and other players
-Sharing user created content on-line to use in their games
-On-line service compatible with several gaming devices
-Web browser

I think Sony is going to copy for the PS3... oh wait, PS3 had it before!

Also the Wii U could be available in black!

O_________O It was okay. Some nice things, but they are totally doing online wrong (again...).

Did we watch different videos? They confirmed an account system with OS level features like messaging, videochat, and screenshot sharing that can be integrated into any game. They haven't said anything about matchmaking yet.

This is very transparent.

It looks like a 360 controller but haven't we had that same controller layout for ages with the classic controller pro? So it ain't nothing new.

Seen mixed reactions elsewhere (was looking at other sites because gaf died) of that skit. I thought it was great and intentionally cheesy.

Well...that's completely diminished my doubts for the console. It looks absolutely fantastic and the features sound great, especially being able to access the Miiverse outside of Nintendo products.

I'm actually really impressed with their online features and what they plan on doing with the console.

Now I just need a job so I can afford to buy the thing amongst other needed purchases...

I didn't catch it during the conference the first time, but NSMB looks a lot better. I really like what they did with the backgrounds, but still wish the actual models were better.

Overall I thought the conference was great, lots of neat features that hopefully people will end up using. Also I do think the skit was intentionally cheesy... at first I thought it was serious, but the outro song of that skit seemed so intentionally cheesy as well, there's no way that was legit haha.

A subtle comment I'm not sure was picked up on: Iwata mentioned that the Miiverse would show Miis of people with accounts on your system.

That suggests that we're definitely at least looking at an account system at the system level, hopefully that'll expand to a network level as well.

Eh, I don't really give a shit about Pro controllers and whatever. I'm a wiimote guy. Online functions seem nice, but frankly I find most of these online things superfluous anyway.

just show me the games man.

The wait for Tuesday is going to be horrible.

Microsoft is going to really have to pull something special tomorrow!

What about the 3DS though? Sounds like we won't be getting anything on Tuesday :/

Nintendo broke GAF lol.

Yeah. It was down for a while. And that was just the pre-show.

I liked what I saw. I am content - for now. But that won't stop me tearing them to shreds if their actual Presser fails to deliver. At this point though, I don't see that happening.
