Just wait till those copycats at Sony release PS Wara Wara. You'll be coming in here and be like, "yo Sony knew about Wara Wara all along", but it was Iwata who turned Wara Wara into Wara Wara. This cannot be denied!!!
I thought Wara Wara was just a small, limited copy of Playstation Home but mixed with a limited copy of Vita's Live Area game comments and likes.
Player avatars messing around and posting comments?

There is NO WAY PEOPLE ACTUALLY ENJOYED THAT SHITTY VIDEO.

Come ON gaf. Seriously. It was FUCKING AWFUL. Cheesy, horribly acted, self-aware to the point of being TOO self-aware, and just...fucking STUPID.

GAF, good lord. Do not succumb to something that horrible.

Move away from your computer screen. Take a deep breath. Realize that not everyone will have the same views that you do.

Move on.

Oh...my....god....

Not really sure what to make of this yet. The info he provided was interesting but I don't know if I like the implementation. The tiles seem like they would clutter quickly (needs folder firmware already lol) and the MiiVerse could be annoying, no like I want a bunch of peoples comments filling my tv screen, as I'm already wincing at all the drawn penises that will likely be a part of that.....

Software is king so thats what its going to come down to and they better have it in spades because NSMB and PS360 ports aint going to cut it for me.

For those who are unfamiliar with the point of this pre-show: It was simply to discuss some aspects of the hardware and online. That is all. Nothing more. Not specifically about games, nor the price, nor the console's specs. So don't whine about it when that wasn't the point.

Smart company would integrate Facebook/Twitter completely into their platform as companies like Apple are slowing doing.

This is funny to me, just because I was reading the E3 2006 Sony Conference thread yesterday, and your favorite "smart" company was gushing about MySpace. A lot can change over the lifetime of a console!

I don't do much with my Facebook page, but if I did, I wouldn't want it integrated with my videogame console. Would like to keep my real life seperated from gaming world trolls. And I don't want my timeline updated with, "Hey look, I got an achievement!" every hour.

Shameless....

Don't get me wrong, it does look damn similar.

But were Nintendo's competitors called shameless when they adopted the NES D-pad? How about the SNES's shoulder buttons and diamond shaped 4 button face layout? The N64's analog stick and rumble? Let's be honest, Microsoft's controller didn't really invent anything. Other than Nintendo "shamelessly" agreeing to conform with the clicky sticks the PS360 use, just about everything featured on the Wii U Pro was already on the Gamecube pad or earlier.

There's also a simplified UI you can switch to.

gun could be golden eye? dunno

The gun represents the zombie game from the skit, which I *suspect* isn't actually a real game, just something used as a frame of reference for it. The shot of the smartphone accessing the miiverse clearly attributes a zombie-esque comment to the gun.

Why are people surprised at the feed layout similarities?
Everyone just copies the regular Twitter client.

Also, I think showing Miis commenting around games you don't even own is a great way to increase game exposure without resorting to straight-up ads.
Yup, it'll be word-of-mouth on the console itself, if you gather enough supporters for a smaller game and keep on playing the sales could go up.

It's better with 3rd party games without second screen usage than no 3rd party games at all. Tomb Raider wouldn't come to WiiU because the devs didn't think it was built for a second screen. Now they won't have to worry about that. 3rd party devs only worry now is that they'll have to compete with Nintendo's AAA games. There are no valid excuses anymore. Nintendo has played their part perfectly imo.

There's actually a nice side-effect here, too. Games that don't use the second screen should be able to be played entirely on the pad, adding a bit of extra functionality as a tradeoff for not making use of the second screen.

As far as the emphasis of Nintendo Direct and the upcoming conference goes, remember: Nintendo received a lot of criticism last year for not being clear about the direction of Wii U, what the online would be like, how many tablets/players there could be at once, and so forth.

Nintendo is going to spend a lot of time laying that out and explaining the core concepts of the system, so the conference is not going to be all games.

Let's talk Chase. This is entirely supposition from the things written about it in the video; it's quite possible that was all just placeholder text - but all that text does seem to piece together into what might be a coherent game idea:

It's the game with a Boo icon. Here's the most intriguing shot of people discussing it:

I reckon, from that, that we're looking at a multiplayer game with asymmetric gameplay; one player controls the Boo, three other players control characters. I assume the objective for the Boo is to sneak up on the other players without being caught in their flashlights, while the others need to co-operate to corner and trap the Boo.

That doesn't sound in-depth enough to be a full game, I'm wondering if we're looking at a pack-in title?

What if they packed in something like a Mario Party 10? That idea sounds a lot like a Mario Party mini-game, it'd be an awesome game to get people together.

Maybe. I think it's a little different, though, in that people will probably actually use Wara Wara and it hopefully isn't totally worthless garbage.

Image of (fake?)zombi game.

If this is Retro's game, I'm going to be displeased.

The Miiverse social network as described is basically Twitter for Nintendo games. They probably did copy a Twitter app interface both because it works and it's familiar.

Smart company would integrate Facebook/Twitter completely into their platform as companies like Apple are slowing doing.

Last time I heard, Apple was building their own map system so they wouldn't have to depend on Google Maps.

The social stuff is core to the system, it would be beyond stupid to build it on top of somebody else's infrastructure over which you have zero control. What happens when random Facebook intern breaks the APIs like they did a few weeks ago? The entire Wii U network goes offline?

There's nothing preventing them from adding optional linkage to FB and Twitter accounts later.

So in this case take Vita's Live area game specific feed, where you can comment achievements or any other game events from other players in a OS standard way.

Yeah, it's not exactly new, but it's not exactly the same either. Nintendo's version works for games you don't own (which is a way of increasing discovery) and show data from users you're not friends with.
