Nintendo Direct Pre-E3 - June 3, 2012 - 6PM ET [Over] - Porn Curtains Ahoy

I thought the zombie game looked placeholder in the video - short glimpses, quick cut aways, but with those touched up captures it looks too much effort for something placeholder. I'm gonna guess its real... maybe a launch digital title...

Everyone that is facepalming about the behavior of the hipster guy in the video, i guess that you guys don't have 13 to 16 year old siblings or cousins, or don't live around teenagers....

Still, it was a stupid decision to put that guy in the video, but judging from the last few E3s that has become the norm, i prefered the cute girls from the DS ads.

What if they packed in something like a Mario Party 10? That idea sounds a lot like a Mario Party mini-game, it'd be an awesome game to get people together.

If we take the images of the OS at face value, that's an actual fully-fledged game. That said, *doing* that might be a bad idea.

Until Nintendo confirm the implementation of voice chat and being able to play with/talk to strangers, I'm not getting excited about any online features. I'm tired of getting gimped online because Nintendo feel the need to babysit kids. Put decent parental controls in so that concerned parents can prevent their children talking to strangers, and let the rest of us talk to whoever we want.

I'd imagine most teenagers would find that even more cringe-worthy. It reminded me of those godawful presentations that you'd often see in highschools, that tell you not to do drugs, or have unsafe sex. A desperate attempt to seem "down with the kids" that is not only embarassing, but patronising.

Smart company would integrate Facebook/Twitter completely into their platform as companies like Apple are slowing doing.
Nintendo needed a "social network" they could build their system on. A "smart" company wouldn't build anything important on top of Facebook or Twitter.

Put parental locks in place that parents can use to restrict what their kids get up to, and let the rest of us talk to child molesters if we want to.

You can see drawings made by complete strangers as soon as you boot the system. This is on a completely different level than Swap Note or the 3DS friends list.

But yeah, having a confirmation you can send friend requests to strangers would be great.

So the little Box under the TV is supposed to be the WiiU?

Yes.

I want that black WiiU at launch.

Well Apple did. It was completely worthless and I've never met anyone who uses it but they did.

Well, even if the claim is legitimate, I'd really rather opt-out from manbabies and 10 years old telling me to suck their dick or stop being a fucking cheater just because I'm better than them at operating a toy.

Hardly a "social" guy here but the OS features shown so far seems pretty nice. But do I really want to see messages from everyone in my country playing the latest games? I hope we get some Communities options in Miiverse. They can't let that just rest for one game alone!

You mean GameCenter or whatever it's called? GameCenter integrates with Twitter and Facebook, but isn't built on Twitter and Facebook. It also isn't important. Many owners of iOS devices don't use it, even more don't even know what it is or does.

lol people accusing Nintendo of stealing controller handles from Microsoft

It's a Classic Controller Pro with bigger grips.

So I think Iwata was watching the stream AND the comments from Nintendo Direct.

See it in another way: it's sales-age material right in your home screen! We'll have endless theories about how much each game sold based on the number of miis babbling under their icons.

if the wii u is as small as the wii (or so it seems from the pics) we can safely assume that he will still be slightly less powerful then the next generation of consoles?

Let's talk Chase. This is entirely supposition from the things written about it in the video; it's quite possible that was all just placeholder text - but all that text does seem to piece together into what might be a coherent game idea:

It's the game with a Boo icon. Here's the most intriguing shot of people discussing it:

zQnOA.png

I reckon, from that, that we're looking at a multiplayer game with asymmetric gameplay; one player controls the Boo, three other players control characters. I assume the objective for the Boo is to sneak up on the other players without being caught in their flashlights, while the others need to co-operate to corner and trap the Boo.

That doesn't sound in-depth enough to be a full game, I'm wondering if we're looking at a pack-in title?

Luigi's Mansion for Wii U. :p

I think we was referring to Ping.
What was ping?

Exactly.

No, iOS 5 literally sticks a Twitter button on everything. Twitter is baked into the OS itself.

This is why Iwata truly is the man. He cares about our opinions.

It seems that the Software Showcase may be a live press conference (maybe what Iwata meant as "other opportunities to discuss Nintendo 3DS").

On Nintendo's E3 page, today's live stream and the Wii U hardware discussion are labelled as "precorded" but the E3 presentation and Software Showcase are not. Plus, the Software Showcase is getting as much emphasis as the E3 presentation.

The OS doesn't depend on Twitter, though. Apple can add other services and remove them at will going forward. They basically built a "social network" plug in.

That's exactly what i meant to say, the guy is clearly acting stupid, but that is how teenagers are, except when they see someone else acting like them, they think it's stupid, but in this case i believe that it was tongue in cheek...

And about the parental control thing, if they are really going for the Miiverse feature, i guess that they can always separate it by region, and screen it, and ban people or preventing them from posting possible offensive content.

also, i expect more dicks and offensive content from the 360 crowd, based on my experience of CoD:Blops and MW3 on both versions.

i'm gonna guess that those unnecessarily worked up over the "quality" of the demo video subconsciously feel it hit too close to home. ...the first thing to come into focus was a face wrapped all around my head, or something like that.

You mean I've been walking around in that all these years?

I'm glad Nintendo FINALLY caught on to analog stick buttons. Now all they need is to make the rest of the buttons pressure sensitive and. I feel like Nintendo are the only ones weird/creative enough besides Kojima to make good use of such a features.

It's not a plug in. You don't have to log in but it's not optional to install.

Ive gotta give it to Nintendo. The inclusion of NFC was a last minute clutch move. They saw how SKYLANDERS was making bank and they 1up them with NFC. They gonna sell POKEMON figures by the truck load.

Of course it was rerecorded. Unless you think Iwata hopped a flight back to Japan just to film a 30 minute video and has magic jump-cut abilities :p

I thought that Zombie Game was fake but those pictures made it seem real. Also talking about using the gamepad to see weak spots makes me interested to see if this is real and who is making it?

It's not a plugin in the user-sense. It's a plugin software-wise, in that they can easily remove and swap it for whatever-flavor-of-the-year social network happens next. Their system won't stop working if it's removed and nothing of importance relies on it because the system merely sends messages to Twitter.

The stupid way would be to use Twitter itself as the primary messaging system.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Watched the stream from my folks. Typical retreading of known information, Iwata long windedness, and creepy live action video that was weird.

But overall I was fine with everything announced and shown. Mii Universe thing is neat, the OS looks nice, and the controller was fully explained. It was a feed that explained the hardware, like they said.

As usual though TheInternet(tm) is abuzz with bitching and moaning. I look forward to a similar follow-up after the presser.
