GBA SF2 had a few new stages in it not in previous SF2 releases.
Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival was later released for the GBA in 2001. Revival is not a direct port of the arcade Super Turbo, but rather an original portable version of the game based on it. The controls, much like the Game Boy version of the original Street Fighter II, have been modified due to the platform's four-button setup. Additionally "Easy Commands" can be toggled on or off to allow easier performance of special moves. Revival features all the characters from the arcade version. Two versions of Akuma (with his own Super Combo move) are unlockable but the "Old" versions of the other characters were removed. The player only has to fight 10 opponents as opposed to 12. However the car and barrel bonus stages were also included. The artwork for the character select screen, victory screen and the character endings have all been remade by Capcom artist Edayan. The English localization was also revised. The backgrounds for Ryu's, Ken's, Chun-Li's, Guile's, Zangief's, Balrog's and Bison's stages have all been replaced, with some of the backgrounds taken from the later Street Fighter Alpha and Street Fighter III games.

I'd still get it for that but the 6 button style of SF2 didn't translate well.

Hmm.... I want Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, but am currently playing Etrian Mystery Dungeon already. I think I'll wait until a sale or until I'm done with Etrian.

How is Contra EX? I've heard some say it's fine if you love Contra but others say it's just a somewhat weak port of Contra III with some new levels and elements from Contra Hard Corps mixed in, fair assesment?

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo was never released on SNES, only "regular" SSF2 was (so no Akuma, super combo, etc), so this isn't a SNES port. It's not a direct port of the arcade game either since it has new art, new stages and some other changes. Not that this is a particularly good version of Street Fighter 2 or anything, but if other versions with much less differences between them have released on VC before, then why not this one as well?

I suppose that's true and all, I didn't protest when all 3 SF2's came out the same day. I didn't get any but Super but although silly it was fine for completionists. But just remembering the last few GBA releases... Ghouls & Ghosts, Final Fight One, Contra and now this, I just think the priorities are strange. This should be filler when the well's been tapped dry.

And SF needs 6 buttons. An eShop version of HD Remix would be nice.

Wii U VC:
  1. Super Mario World

  5. Super Mario Bros.
  6. Super Mario 64
  7. Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream**

  17. Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3**
  18. Donkey Kong 64
  19. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  20. Paper Mario

Why did I put Guacamelee at 82,000? It was one of the base game of the recent Humble Nindie Bundle, which sold slightly over 82,000 copies; you could obtain a code by paying what you wanted. It's also true that some codes were bought outside of US (mainly Canada), but it's also true the game didn't exactly sell zero before the HNB. Copies sold earlier and codes unredeemed can cancel each other out, but it's an estimate based on some specific assumption. Don't take it for granted, it's a bit distant from being an accurate estimate, take it as a possible number.

This means that
- each and every title in the All Time Wii U Chart should've sold more than Guacamelee, thus could be over 82,000 downloads,
- only 3 titles are lower than Guacamelee in the Wii U-only Top 20; so, 17 titles could be over 82,000.
- half of VC-only Top 20 is potentially higher than 82,000.
Something interesting to notice: the VC-only top 20 is completely filled by Nintendo titles, except for MegaMan X

Why did I put Gunman Clive at 136,700? It's based on an older LTD for the game (400,000 WW overall as of February 3rd, over 80% on 3DS), so it's a very safe number.
Why did I put Super Smash Bros. for 3DS at > 240,000? Because of this tidbit from an interview with Reggie back in November 2014

A lot of people in the gaming industry are interested in the trends of physical versus digital sales and when the lines cross. What’s Nintendo seeing?

Retail still is the majority of the business for us. But what’s interesting is, game by game and at different points in time, you see a different consumer reaction. Smash Bros. for 3DS, consumers wanted that game immediately. They didn’t even want to spend the time to get in their car and drive to retail to get it, so our digital percent for that game is quite high — about 20 percent of the games sold here in the U.S. were digital, which is a pretty significant piece. Compare that to Bayonetta 2. That’s a huge game, and could take up a large part of the memory in the 32-gig Wii U. That’s a game with a digital percent on the lower side, today about 10 percent or so. Our mentality is, we want the consumer to have the choice based on what makes sense for you, what makes sense for the type of game it is.

SSB 3DS's LTD back in October 2014 was 1,200,000. 20% of 1,200,000 is 240,000. He talked about both Smash Bros. 3DS (a game released right at the beginning of October, resulting in it getting tracked in NPD for September numbers) and Bayonetta 2, a game released towards the end of October. Thus, it a good assumption to say that he was talking about the most recent numbers for both titles.

The > 82,000 in the 3DS-only Chart is hazardous, it's something to take as a possibility in the same way for Guacamelee's number, since they share the same reason: being pay-what-you-want games in the HNB

This means that
- All the All Time 3DS Chart is over 136,700 downloads
- 12 titles in the 3DS-only Top 20 is over 136,700 downloads and the entire top 20 could be over 82,000.
- 8 titles in the VC-only Top 20 is over 136,700. Also, there are third party games, unlike Wii U.
- Only the top selling DSiWare is over 136,7000 downloads.

*games involved in the launch deal for Mario Kart 8
**Club Nintendo 2015 Platinum awards

_________________________________________________________

Looking at both of them, we know at least that
- more than 82,000 copies of Shovel Knight WW could have been sold on Wii U, US only
- more than 136,700 copies of Shovel Knight WW have been sold on 3DS, US only
- then, more than 218,700 copies of Shovel Knight WW could have been sold on Nintendo consoles, US only
- since both Pokémon X/Y SKUs are higher than Gunman Clive, this means that digital sales for Pokémon X/Y are at least higher than 273,400
- the same for both Zelda Oracle games (IIRC, these have been Club Nintendo awards for a while / there was a special launch deal...can anyone confirm it?)

I think this is what we can extract from these charts, the main results. I tried to put in there as many "safe" assumptions as possible. It would be great to get more numbers, especially near the top and at the bottom of the charts, but there's already something to say thanks to these charts and the known numbers / assumptions.

Well, Mega Man X is there. And IIRC that game had a pretty massive sale at one point, which makes it a bit unfair, unlike 99% of the other games on VC. Well I guess there were several Nintendo published games that went really cheap during the introduction phase... I know Nintendo's all about the same price point across platforms, but doing so doesn't give the lesser known titles much of a chance to compete. They should at least hook some publishers up with sales or a VC title of the month, or something.

Oh, and Wii Street U might deserve an asterisk of some sort as that was a completely free download for a long time before it became paid. I honestly doubt many people bought it at all.

So I think I might be the 1st developer (outside of Nintendo at least?) to actually update a demo on the Wii U eShop. Normally Demos cannot be updated. I was able to convince Nintendo to allow me to update my demo. So, that is cool, in of itself.

Gaf developers, does adding another platform require you to pay for ratings board review again? Basically, I'm curious if the ESRB costs have any bearing on the VC output.

Nintendo is actually free now! :)

Normally, a new rating per game per platform does cost money. But Nintendo is now 100% IARC compliant. Which means ESRB (already free anyways), PEGI (Most of EU), USK (Germany), and Australia (AU) are free. They are still working on getting more rating on board, like the NZ one, but if you game is like PG in AU, it doesn't need a NZ rating.

When it comes to third-party VC games, Nintendo can only release what people bring them, so in the case of a company like Capcom whose GBA library is "lots of Mega Man, lots of ports" you kinda have to make do.

I'm still waiting for Sega to get cracking on releasing their GBA catalogue, there's some good stuff in there (and some awful stuff that should never leave the vault).

I played the demo of Samurai Defender today. I got a game over on the first boss, because my heal wouldn't go off in time, but I kind of liked it.

Those sales numbers are pretty interesting!

I'm hoping the black friday sales are pretty good. I only have $5 on the eshop right now so I might have to buy more money cards.

Since making guesses on overly optimistic assumptions doesn't help accuracy, I've decided to put the safest assumption in the chart.

You're assuming that every download code bought counts as a sale on the eShop even if that download code was not redeemed. I do not think that is a safe assumption.

15% off eShop cards at Best Buy for Black Friday.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

Well, the assumption starts from the total of bundles sold, but it considers also two other factors
- not all the people who bought the bundle redeemed the code / redeemed it yet, as you said
- the game has been available for quite a while, so it sold a specific amount of copies before the Humble Indie Bundle

Since we don't know how many codes haven't been redeemed, neither how much it sold before the Bundle, I think that 82,000 downloads, a total based on the mere amount of bundles sold, is "safe", although not safe: it's the closest thing we have to an estimate for the game. IIRC, it also suddenly appeared in Wii U All Time Charts after the Humble Bundle, which means codes have been redeemed.

Still, if you want me to remove any reference to that estimate (or to just say it's not as safest as I'm saying in the post), no problem :)

Your reasons are reasonable (i.e. previous purchases and unredeemed codes at least cancelling out), but yeah, it's not a hard number. Some people possibly bought the package for another reason or just because it was cheap and had no intention of redeeming all the games in the bundle. Some of them might have already owned it and just left the code alone, too. Just wanted to point it out.

Did we get any MK8 or SSB for Wii U digital sales numbers? That might be a firmer # to go with, even if it is from last year.

Nintendo doesn't give out separate sales numbers for digital titles. A percentage is the best you can hope for.

Then, I'll highlight more how it's an estimate with that specific context, removing references to it being a "safe" assumption.

Also, I don't think we have so many digital sales numbers for both MK8 and SSB. Again, we have the first two months of MK8 digital sales (IIRC, 65,000 downloads) thanks to numbers and splits shared in NPD June 2014's thread, not that much after that.

The post I'm referring to - http://neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=121952920&postcount=4460

Now, if we really want to use the 7.34% first two-months digital share for the LTD (over 2 millions), it'd be at over 146,800. Maybe we could just say that Mario Kart 8 is over 100,000 units sold on the eShop, but I'd like to know your opinion on that.

Also, I just remembered this

http://recode.net/2014/11/05/ninten...ay-strategy-call-of-duty-and-mobile-games-qa/

Since the interview was made a bit of days before the NPD October 2014's data, we can use Smash Bros. 3DS' first two months number - 1,200,000, which brings us to over 240,000 units downloaded.

I'll try to see if Splatoon can offer some estimates as well.

Looks like Winterworks will be bringing most future games to the 3DS. Bloo Kid 2 sold around 6000 copies (only includes NA sales, I think?) and had a higher revenue split per sale than the Google play version. Basically, they said the game paid for itself pretty quickly and it's been making money for them.

Source?

EDIT: Nevermind, found it - http://www.winterworks.de/bloo-kid-2-the-definitive-revenue-breakdown/

Also, 3DS numbers are for both US and Europe, while Japan is excluded

I completed Bloo Kid 2 on 3DS. Very good and simple platformer game. Hard to complete 100%.

It needs many more sales. Good they're making money.

I also completed Bloo Kid 2 on 3DS when it came out in May. There were some frustrating bits, but overall it was a decent, fun platformer, which I enjoyed.

Thought there were leaks of showing MK8 over 130K digital in the first 2 months.

http://www.ign.com/boards/threads/p...for-the-sixth-month-in-a-row.454115201/page-2

I think over 200K is probably a given, but the hard number there is > 130K. Also, that's a 17% rate. (digital / physical)

It's too bad we don't have anything more solid for Wii U farther down. We have first month Mario Maker sales (phys + dig) but not just phys. That'd be something. :/

On 3DS, everything is well above 50K, as the 50K marker fell out of the Top 20 months ago. Don't know that we have anything more specific for #20 currently, though. Higher ups are much, much higher with AC, LbW, and SSB all being documented at well over 100K and possibly 200K or more by now.

Suspiciously quiet. Are Germans on holiday again?

I wonder if they'd mention the Xenoblade Chronicles X data packs in the PR if they were coming this week.

Konami once again providing us with a VC title, one that even uses the zapper. That's our first 3rd party Zapper VC title!

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Don't expect too much, according to PR.

Up to 40% is quite a lot - especially when its including first party titles. No one is expecting to get Mario 3D World and Splatoon for 15€ xD

Yes, 40% is a lot... but also the digital prices for some games are a lot too (was not FE: Awakening 44,99€ or something similar?)

Oh gawwwwd the Yoshi theme is great. The Splatoon one isn't bad either, but YOSHI.

Though I do find it amusing how the 3DS gets themes based on Wii U games, just because the Wii U can't do themes. Something should be done about that...

40% off could be good for getting things like Xenoblade Chronicles for £10, NES Remix for £5 etc. if they decided to apply the discount to them.

If only Nintendo had some sort of website where you could look through a database of their games and check their prices, and possibly even buy them from it...

I usually buy 3DS/WiiU games I'm interested in at release so I'm mainly hoping for some good Virtual Console discounts.

If there is nothing for me I'm not mad because I want to save my eshop credits for the upcoming Smash DLC anyway.
