So when does this game get hard?

I feel like it has that Borderlands issue where you can stay on top of the level requires easily just by doing all the missions presented to you.

That's up to you, which is an amazing feature IMO.
Souls Veterans can go straight at bosses and play the twighlight missions, while noobs can fight revenants and farm items, amrita etc.

This might not be in line with the "git gud filthy casul" mentality, but I'm always cool with more choices.

I do wish counters were a bigger part of this game, or parrying wasn't so impractical. Combat feels like it could be improved.

Finally got the game yesterday.

Done the two main story quests
with its respective bosses
and two side quests.

The second story mission was quite good.
Specially when the spirit tells you " Its like the walls have eyes". And guess what, they do. That "wall" yokai was interesting. Moving forth, learning the bat lady boss gave me the same feelings as when I was learning Artorias in DS I. As soon as I joined and getting out of the cut-scene, got rekt like a boss.

The funniest part is when you give your maximum attention to the boss, you die with a feeling of progression (or lack of it) and as soon as you respawn the Kodama are partying like there is no tomorrow. That feeling of "they don't give a shit" settles in and you laugh of the situation mustering your inner strength to fight the boss again

Looking forward to play more after work.

Confused at all three of your statements. What do you mean parrying is impractical?

The timing makes it feel like the game doesn't intend you to use it for most fights, as opposed to say, Metal Gear Rising (or even Souls).

That fact that running around and attacking instead of dodge/block doesn't feel intentional. Hitting when an enemy whiffs and running back seems to be the strat for every enemy.

Played for a few hours and finished the first main mission. This is looking like a keeper for sure!

I'm streaming on YouTube for anyone that's interested and wants to drop in for a chat, but no doubt everyone's busy playing the game!

Just about done with
the first region,
gotta beat the fight against the dude from the Trial and see if anything unlocks after that. Maybe I'll clean up the Kodama's I'm missing. Any idea where the Kodama Sense can be found? I've heard whispers if its name in the wind...

...Has anyone tried sprinkling salt on the Youkai?

It's just something I heard but can you check if it reduces their Ki?
I tried it in the demos and iirc it indeed reduces their Ki. There are also stronger items which have a similar, but stronger effect.

It's a random skill on items, so I guess you just have to get lucky.

Personally I think you're underselling the combat a bit. You're free to dodge and block as much as you want to. Also the parry on the Katana is godlike.

Ah damn, only now I find out the Japanese version of the game is censored:/ Ah well, it's no big deal I guess, still loving the game

Yeah, Japanese games don't have decapitations. I never noticed it in the demos, but playing the US version of the full game made me realize that the JP one is censored.

It's like... a large part of the game is footsies, and it seems that almost every fight is dependant on it. It's somewhere in between Souls and NG and I often wish it was a little more NG. I get why dodging and blocking is discouraged because of Ki, but it constrains the different playstyles of weapons.

had a helluva time today with this game.....retiring for the night though. Reached G
reat
C
entipede
..fought him a couple times and died but picked up on what the gimmick in the fight was pretty quickly....just was an impatient idiot.

I just want to keep playing this game but sleep unfortunately calls.

There is a decent amount of footsies, however the various weapons all have ways of getting around blocks and whiffs. Just need to find them.

A bit strange since it was the EU version of NGB that was censored.

I like Stamina is Ki but I think the title should also point out how old it is.. Like "Stamina is Ki, coming 2006!" For example. Still can't believe it was announced 13 years ago.

So is there a consensus that the game is easier than previously thought ? It seems like the AI is less aggressive, enemy density is reduced and enemy damage output is also reduced ?

In the areas in the alpha/beta yeah, but everything still hits hard as hell regardless.

I also think it has to do with the game's progression keeping you on top of the requirements unlike the beta.

The big thing is the enemy density and aggro ranges. I don't feel that damage is actually that much lower, it's more that I'm better at avoiding it, I think.

The enemies that were cut from Isle of Demons are mostly the ones that were used in ambushes, so I suspect that the main goal was to reduce feelings of "cheap deaths".

FWIW the spawns in the second mission, the mountain caves one, are mostly the same as in the beta. There's only a couple changes.

Easier than the same stages in the early versions of the game, as Caim mentioned. It doesn't mean that it's easy - just look at how many people in this thread have a problem with the first "real" boss.
Man there's a meme in here somewhere I just know it
Sadly, it's just me being tired. :p

Beat
enma
on my third attempt and it felt awesome! After failing pretty badly the first try i thought that this was going to take me ages but after my second try i learned to read all her moves which made my third attempt go pretty damn smooth.

Can't wait to see what awaits me in the next missions.

Trying to enjoy this game more than I am at the moment. There's just something about the game that takes too much from Dark Souls while not really having it's own identity other than the Japanese aesthetic and folklore. I wanted a game look akin to NG with less overbearing mechanics that are currently present. I'm just finding the game to be more frustrating than fun, the lack of world building makes completing missions less satisfying than making progress in DS.

FUCK, almost beat the cave lady on first try. Goddamn grab attack was hard to dodge.

Is there a way to buy elixirs? Or at least a good way to farm them?

So what can do I do with Amrita other than level up? Didnt really looked at it in the beta.

Im lvl 25 at the start of mission 2 (tried to farm Youngblood armor...still never got the kote) and I dont want to overlevel, but I just hate seeing Amrita going to waste. Wish it was used as currency too..

When you offer items sometimes you get rewarded with elixirs. You can also equip the find more elixirs buff from the green dudes.
