$399 and $449
Uhhhh just now seeing this. This can be an issue with Xbox game optimizations. No problem with less fast ram for the GPU, but less slow ram for the CPU? And Slower Clock speed? Also I think the ZEN2 CPU could use a bit more Bandwidth.... Maybe. The Xbox One X seems more powerful than the Series S. At the very least it has a stronger GPU (6 TF)
Mainly 400 better versions will cost more
A 40 CU 5700 XT (RDNA 1) takes up 251 mm^2, so that would put the PS5's APU at ~285mm^2, or ~21% smaller than the XSX's. A 21% difference in size is not going to equate to a $100+ difference in the total cost. Especially since other components of the system are probably more expensive, such as the SSD.
This is how i see it, but it will be $499 and $399. This gen is about creating an all Digital Install base. In 2027-8 when the PS6 comes out, its hard to walk away from your entire library, also the PS6 will probably be backwards compatible with PS5.If sony are really ballsy they'll go $350 discless and $450 phy. This gen is about securing the digital subscribers and therefore securing PS6 install base. So the pay off is going to be huge and therefore they should be using digital to subsidize.
I think it’s a real problem if PS5 is more expensive and the console is weaker. My expectation is £449 now.
When you look at exclusive games from a fidelity standpoint its going to beI think it’s a real problem if PS5 is more expensive and the console is weaker. My expectation is £449 now.
Threads are free. Another one doesn't hurt.$499.99 / $399.99 IMO.
Did we need another thread on this though?
Sony isn't releasing the PS5 to secure a digital PS6 install base. Sony is releasing it to sell PS5 games. They won't want people buying a PS6 to play their PS5 digital libraries any more than they want people buying a PS5 to play their PS4 libraries. The only way this makes sense is if Sony is also trying to move to a recurring revenue distribution model like Gamepass. If sony are really ballsy they'll go $350 discless and $450 phy. Well if the GPU is only 40% of the die, then the size difference between the two consoles is going to be even smaller than estimated.SX SoC is > 360mm^2 with according to DF the GPU occupying ~40% of the die.
I think the digital version will be 449. If it's 399 the Series S is DOA.I think they take the hit and price at 449 just to have the last laugh. Then they have the digital sku at 399 to make the Series S look like a joke.
$349 would make the series S a joke. Series X would still be a decent price though.449 and 349. Sony knows how important the price is.
$599
$499

"I think the best way that we can address this is by providing the best possible value proposition that we can. I don't necessarily mean lowest price. Value is a combination of many things. In our area it means games, it means number of games, depth of games, breadth of games, quality of games, price of games... all of these things and how they avail themselves of the feature set of the platform."
I feel like you're right - Sony took a bit of a gamble by updating their controller and adding innovative, yet potentially expensive features. Microsoft played it safe and simply iterated logically but doesn't have stuff like adaptive triggers. That controller is expensive, guys.

I assume the Ps5 was built in mind to be 399 to begin with, the sudden spike in certain parts is what makes it uncertain that they will tech that. I read recently that certain parts have come down in cost recently (someone here shared a link I believe) so idk what to think. I do think the disc less version will be 399 no matter what though.
There was some tweet floating around about Sept 9. Probably the usual BS tweet.Where did anyone get the indication that Playstation will announce their price today? I saw people commenting about it, but where have they said anything about it?

I expect the stand alone Microsoft controllers to stay in the $60 price range. Honestly, I expect the Dualsense to be a $80-$100 addon purchase.
Not by itself, sure. But the Dualsense also has a built in microphone as well as a built in speaker, as well as an internal battery. It's also got the DS4's gyro sensors and trackpad. Xbox controller has none of this.Someone told me once that the BOM for the controllers tend to be a reaction of the MSRP. So while the DualSense might be more expensive than the Xbox One controller it probably isn't that much higher. It's not like adding the adaptive triggers is going to increase the MSRP by 40$ or anything.

I'd love to see them stay in the price point of $60 though, that would be a good value.
A small loss maybe, not a $200 loss like some here are expecting.A lot of people seem to forget (or maybe they are too young to remember) that Sony often likes to sell at a loss and make profits by other means. They have done so ever since the first playstation and they can do it again, especially now that they have more ways to make profits.
Things aren't like they were 25 years ago. Sony isn't going to sell at any more of a loss than they have to. PlayStation is pretty much what is keeping Sony alive right now and they likely can't afford to lose much on launch. Microsoft is probably in a better position to lose money on hardware. Sony won't come in higher than Microsoft after the Xbox price announcement, but they're probably not going to come in lower than Microsoft for their high end model.A lot of people seem to forget (or maybe they are too young to remember) that Sony often likes to sell at a loss and make profits by other means. They have done so ever since the first playstation and they can do it again, especially now that they have more ways to make profits.
