Yeah, but that explains the first 100 million sales. Just like the PS2 and PS4, it appeals to a wide range of ages with a very strong software lineup. However, what we are witnessing is something so incredible and quite frankly outrageous that it only happens with handhelds. It is following the same trajectories of the DS and Gameboy before it. the first year, yes. All the millenial and Gen x Zelda fans bought it. But 6 years after launch, it is still selling like hot cakes when the PS5 itself is selling like hot cakes? It is mostly because it is appealing to kids and because its handheld.
I am mostly speaking from experience because my son literally knocks on my door at 5:30 everyday so he can play my PS5 when all i want to do after work is unwind myself. Whenever hes busy with a switch game, i dont have to worry about it. All of his cousins, his friends, the siblings of his friends and cousins have a switch of their own. You will almost never see two PS5s in one household but if you have two kids plus an adult gamer dad, that dude isnt sharing his switch with his sons and his sons are not sharing their switch with each other.
For all intent and purposes, the switch sells like a handheld.
