Obama announces support for same-sex marriage

Man it must suck dick to be a conservative Christian this election. Vote for the Christian Muslim Communist gay loving incumbent or vote for the Mormon?

In other news, gay dudes in Weho and Chelsea are freaking out that Obama endorsed marriage equality before their lord and savior, Hilary Clinton.

Didn't she stand before the UN last year and say violence and discrimination against gays were human right violations?

While this isn't an unreasonable line of thought, I'm not sure this takes into account just how ugly the "values" campaigning could get.

Exactly which social conservatives are we concerned about being swayed here? African-Americans and Latinos, who have voted for years in large majorities for Democrats who they know are more socially liberal than they are themselves?

He also came out in support of the decriminalization of marijuana in his last campaign which is equally as controversial. Given his recant on that subject, I'll have to brush this of as a campaign tactic and nothing more. The adage "Fool me once..." is fitting here

I eagerly await going home to Boystown to see what happened.

Edit: Nevermind, my neighbor called me in tears. Happy tears.

This might help improve the image of Mormons amongst other Christians, because by contrasting Romney with Obama, it makes them seem like one of them.

Awesome. Anyone with a decent brain could tell you he quietly thought this way. But openly endorsing gay marriage, in election year, takes balls and I commend him for that.

People (Gaborn) have to be reasonable on this issue. This is a situation where ends justify the means. If he had been pro-gay marriage publicly from the start, he wouldn't have become president in the first place I reckon.

Now, I'm really excited by this. But lord hold me if this will become an issue that costs him the election. In that scenario I would be absolutely furious with the outcome.

Hahahaha no i actually think Obama is christian. He hasn't been terrible but i don't agree with some of his stuff. I'll end up voting for a 3rd though. Neither are really great and more than two super parties would be way healthy for the politics of this country.

Does this actually do anything or is it just kind of a press conference thing?

since he stated in 2008 that he personally opposed it due to religious reasons (though he was ok with states allowing it), this obviously means that he's no longer religious.

Or maybe god just came to tell him the correct position to "evolve" to?

teehee

Well, she did endorse marriage whether she intended to or not. Denying marriage is discrimination! Get it together, Hil!

But what do the boys at The Abbey and Splash have to say about THAT?!

It was not fun to be a gay Obama supporter in the primaries, even if those types of places aren't necessarily where my social circles coalesce

Call me cynical, but I don't think he has a choice after Biden.

This will not change anyone's mind about Obama. It may energize his base, but I doubt it. It will likely energize the radical right, but I don't think moderate conservatives will care.

I really couldn't give a shit what it does for him or his election. Its unarguable progress. And its the right thing to do.

Keep in mind, John Kerry won in 2004 in two states (Oregon and Michigan) that passed same-sex marriage bans the same night. And that was in an election where social issues were much bigger than they presumably will be this year.

Awesome. I'm glad he took the right position. It's 2012 after all. I just hope he doesn't lose any key swing states because of it. Oh well, what's right is right. Elections be damned.

Not that my state matters anyway in his re-election bid.

It won't cost him the election. People are focused on the economy.

He opposed Big "M" Marriage, as it pertains to religious folks. But was all about legal equality and civil unions.

Stop derailing this with your evangelical atheism. JNC:

Fucking hell...
Man, this "WAR ON X"-rhetoric is so stupid.

Ahem

Some examples of the Fox News (not FoxNation) comments section, without getting even 10 posts deep:

Obama is desperate for votes when he starts pandering to the trannies.

This is so frackin funny.
Anything this fool can say to divert from his abysmal record will be said.
Anything he can do to turn a few votes from people who are too dumb to see what he is doing will be done.
Gay MARRIAGE. What a joke. Not in our land OBOSO.
The truth is that the gays are so riddled with inconsistancies that they
are themselves unsure about their marriage idea. Most of them do not
believe in a god so it is not a religious marriage it can only be a
registrar type and that means it has all to do with money etc.
Gays are usually mentally unstable or have some trauma associated with
their early sexual development or parents who were wieird to start with.
True GAYS are far and few between.
I think we have more pressing problems than allowing little bum wigglers to get married.
You are so gone OBOSO!!!

This kind of decision is expected from someone like him that grew up in a Chicago "bathhouse"

I would like to thank you, average Fox News comment poster, for reminding me why I fight. That no matter how hopeless or inexorably lost a cause may seem, the fire inside that compels me, when I see true ignorance, to get out of my seat and shout in opposition, has not yet died.

I'm making a donation to the Obama campaign right now, and I'm now certain I will be canvassing support when it gets closer to November just as hard as I did in 2008.

not sure what reaction is more ridiculous yet predictable, fox nation's or gaborn's. haha

great to see him stand up on the issue. i just watched the interview and thought he explained it in a calm, thoughtful way which i like, though obviously that's going to be lost as the headline announcement is digested and reacted to.
