:lol @ the Whiners overspending.

We have to spend atleast 22 million in Free Agency to have cap carry over to next year... why not spend it on the best player available (the other player bitched out on us).

And we got another veteran DB in Michael Lewis. This is great.

London Fletcher is a Redskin, 5 year/$25 million, $10 million signing bonus.
Where you reading that? I mean, I believe you, but I want to read more about it.

Also, methodman, don't get too hyped up about Michael Lewis. ;)

lol 49ers gave Michael Lewis $10 million gauranteed? Why not go after Ken Hamlin if they were going to pay that much?

Bucs news!!

San Francisco 49ers free agent center Jeremy Newberry is scheduled to visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday. The former Pro Bowl center has started 90 games since entering the NFL in 1998, but he’s struggled with injuries over the past three seasons.

He'll make his comeback to Pro Bowl level in Tampa, FMT!!

Denver Broncos free agent defensive end/linebacker Patrick Chukwurah, who was scheduled to visit One Buccaneer Place on Tuesday, has agreed to terms on a five-year, $5.5 million deal with the Buccaneers. Chukwurah, 27, will officially sign his contract when he visits Tampa Bay on Tuesday.

8 career sacks, watch out Ronde!!

I'm going to miss both Fletcher and Clements, but Fletcher was a much better player because of his intangibles.

49ers definitely spent too much, but every team is going to spend too much.

IF Nate Clements shows up to play every single game, you got a hell of a player because when he's on his game he shuts guys down. His tackling got progressively worse over '04-'05, but I think that had more to do with the coaching staff than Clements himself. He definitely rebounded this past season. Clements is a takeaway machine, always trying to stripe/rip the ball from the ball carrier. IMO he's one of the most physical corners in the NFL, he grabs/holds/chucks and gets away with it 97% of the time. His catch up speed isn't the greatest but he rarely gets beaten deep.

IF Clements is motivated he's a great player (see his '04 season when the Bills were in playoff contention). He destroyed most of the WR's that went against him that season, and almost singlehandedly won the last game of the season against Pit which would have propelled the Bills into playoffs. Great player when motivated. As long as the 49ers are contenders he's going to show up and be a force.

Thanks for the post bro, We REALLY needed a physical corner. We play some tough ass wideout tandems in the NFC west, and having a physical corner like him (who can even shut someone completely out) will be such a huge boost for our defense.

Wow 80 million dollars :lol

I would be real happy to see Jake in Houston. I might even drive down to watch a game sometime :D

When the Bills played the Rams, Clements mauled the crap out of him. Holt had 90 yards by the end of the game, but most of that was gained in garbage time (Bills won by 20 and it wasn't a contest). I think he'll hold up well in that division. He's not a leader on D however, quiet guy doesn't really yell or motivate but he does talk trash, a lot of it as a matter of fact.

He was my favorite Bill next to Fletcher, sad to see him go.

Bills sign the talented Cortez Hankton.

So talented he almost cracked the starting lineup of Wilford, Jones and Williams......

that game was tied at the half, but clements buried us with a punt return in the 2nd half. but i think pat williams was responsible for most of that beatdown.

and now you know how we felt about losing fletch 5 years ago :D

Your special teams killed you that game, that and the sacks/oline, Lawyer Milloy had 3. Fletcher is great player but an even better person. Maybe some of that character rubs off on Taylor. :lol

He'll be cut in preseason. We have way too many WR to begin with. Dockery is going to help on the oline though.

hell yeah, hes a great locker room guy by all accounts, and he gets the defense fired up. great signing by the skins, even if he is a little old.

gtfo bellicheck you bitch, niners are closer to the superbowl than the pats!

You're right, San Francisco is closer to Arizona. Too bad that has nothing to do with who gets to play in the game. :lol

We might have over paid for him a tad, but **** it.. And **** ADT too.

According to a source close to Porter, at least seven teams have made contact to inquire about the three-time Pro Bowl selection, and they read like a who's who of the NFL's 3-4 defensive formation stalwarts: New England, the Jets, Baltimore, San Francisco, Dallas, Cleveland and Miami.

Come on JOEY come home to San Fran. This pretty much means we'll probably go after Carriker in the draft, maybe Moses. If not we have 8 picks in the first 4 rounds, I'm sure we can fill the rest of our needs there.

edit: actually the structure of Clements contract doesn't it make it nearly as bad of a cap hit as one might think. Nolan was on KNBR and stated that even after Clements and Lewis we would still have enough to honor our deal to ADT, take care of some other issues, and draft.. So we're still in good shape.

Psh. you guys think you got some good names coming in, guess who is visiting the Eagles!

No one :( Stupid front office wont even schedule visits

welcome nate and michael! you will have your first superbowl ring soon. ADT don't go to the patriots! bellicheck will work you out of the league via horrible practice schedules causing concussions. come to san francisco and be the final piece to our defensive puzzle, not some bullshit role player in new england!

According to John Clayton of ESPN, the 49ers will sign Ravens nose tackle Aubrayo Franklin to a 3 year contract worth $6 million that includes a $3 million signing bonus.

Clayton also states that the team will go after Dolphins linebacker Donnie Spragan.

Wow. 3 pickups on the first day, and our defense already looks 2 times better then last year. This is great.

guys chill out. the clements deal is essentially a 6 year, $40 million dollar contract and it is an incentive-heavy contract based on performance and playing time. yeah people are going to have cock mouth when they see "8 years 80 mil!" but the reality is it's a good contract for the best CB available.

The Boston Herald reports the Patriots have agreed to terms with DE/LB Adalius Thomas on a contract that will guarantee him $17.5 million and pays $7.5 million-per-year. He still has to pass a physical Saturday.

:lol Shitty LB core still intact in SF.

<3 Derek Smith:lol

Shitty LB core still intact in SF.

yeah i've seen lots of reports, but nothing is a done deal! not until he signs the contract my friend! you want to get paid or not you bitch ADT? **** new england and everything about new england, including the patriots!

why would houston go after garcia? granted he is a improvement over carr (not saying carr is a definite bust yet), but i mean to get what? 1-2 good seasons? would they not rather get someone younger like a qb of the future? unless of course they get garcia and then draft a qb to groom.

Update! We may actually have a visit soon!

Chirs Brown :(
Atleast if we got him anytime he had a big play i could say:

"Is Chris Brown on the flo?
If he ain't...
Let me know
Let me see if he can run it, run it
girl indeed He can run it, run it

Free agent guard Eric Steinbach won’t be visiting One Buccaneer Place after all. That news came on Friday evening after Steinbach, who was scheduled to visit the Bucs on Saturday, reportedly signed a seven-year, $49.5 million contract with the Cleveland Browns.

**** you Steinbach, we didn't want you anyway!

I dunno how I feel about this:

Darrell Jackson: The Seahawks might have found a suitor for the talented but injury-prone wide receiver. The issue now is agreeing on compensation. Seattle has reportedly talked to the Jaguars about getting a day one draft pick in return for Jackson. -- John Murphy

Hrm.....

Trade DJ and then draft DJ to replace him. Perfect!

Who's this ADT you people keep talking about?

In real news, the Patriots signed Kyle Brady.

Adalius Thomas...

And Cleveland spending another wad of money on lineman? We all know how that work out last time...it took 1 day.
