Having debuted 4 weeks ago at No1 as the biggest selling game of all time (week 1 sales), Rockstar/Take 2’s ‘GTA V’ re-takes No1 (-53%).

EA’s ‘FIFA 14’ (-66%) drops to No2 – both titles have now had 2 weeks at No1. Nintendo’s new fully 3D 6th generation Pokemon titles debut at No’s 3&4, with ‘Pokemon X’ at No3 and ‘Pokemon Y’ at No4. Sales on these 2 products are around double last year’s Pokemon Black2/White 2 opening week (W41-2012). Pokemon X and Y are the first major headline Pokemon releases to be coded as 3DS titles (after ‘Super Pokemon Rumble’ and ‘Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Infinity’) and X/Y are the first major Pokemon releases to launch in the same week as a Nintendo hand-held console (2DS launched this week) – we’ve come close before with 3DS hardware (W12-2011) released 3 weeks after Pokemon Black/White and DSI XL (W9-2010) released 3 weeks before Pokemon HeartGold/Soulsilver.

Debuting at No5 is Sony’s PS3 exclusive ‘Beyond Two Souls’ from Quantic Dream, last seen 3 and a half years ago with ‘Heavy Rain’ (W8-2010) which debuted at No1. The final new releases this week are NIS America’s ‘Dragon’s Crown’ at No19 and the third Moshi Monsters title, Mind Candy’s ‘Moshi Monsters: Katsuma Unleashed’ at No28.

As Reggie would say, "they're not the same game, it's not the same content" but yes, Pokemon X & Y are considered separate games whereas GTA V and Fifa are simply separate SKUs.

Surprised to see BEYOND in top 10 considering its competition. I think it did as well as it could considering the circumstances.

Combined means "add the numbers for each console the game is released on" - Pokémon X and Y are only released on one system, so their numbers in bith charts are equal, whereas Fifa and GTA get summed up over all versions. They seem to decide this on name, so it's not important that Pokémon X and Y are closer to being one game than Fifa 14 360 and Fifa 14 Wii.

Pokemon X and Y are slightly different games for the same platform. FIFA 2014 is considered the same game on PS360(+other formats). Same with GTA V (PS360).

I'd guess both (or neither but a pinch of people buying for Wind Waker but not wanting a digital copy or wanting the Ganon figurine). I'm not sure if the GAME offer of £10 when bought with any Wii U item (including say a screen protector) ever expired.

How do figure it under performed. Chart position can't really tell us because heavy rain didn't launch against three of the biggest games in the industry.

Reviews were terrible. I'm even hesitant to bite and I really enjoyed heavy rain, b-movie story and all. I'd have been way more interested in it as a next gen exclusive tech demo, but it seems sony is intent on chasing that 75(?) million install base with this and GT6. I really don't get that strategy, we've already played David Cage PS3 game and PS3 GT. Oh well, hope they don't lose too much money.

Beyond wen as high as it could considering what's above it.

Do we know how B/W2 performed agains B/W so we can see how Pokemon X//Y compared with B/W?

The Guardian Official Splits

GTAV on 360 sold 55% of the total amount.
So, since its total is around 110k, GTAV 360 sold around 60.5k. Then, each Pokémon SKU sold 60.5k at least, given they're both higher than GTAV.
Pokémon X/Y first week - around 121k as minimum.

FIFA 14 sold around 90k; PS3 SKU accounted for 42% - 37.8k
Then, Beyond: Two Souls sold less than 37.8k

If anyone cares, here's some comparisons for BTS

Last of Us sold over 4 times as many at launch in June as BTS. Not that suprising to me as tLoU has much broader appeal.

Heavy Rain launched Feb 2010 and sold over 3 times as many as BTS. HR launched in a comparatively quieter period - AvP in its second week and a smattering of other Sega releases, but no major problems.

All that said, I suspect Sony is probably disappointed with its actual sales numbers, but its as symptomatic of the ailing market as it is any specific problem with the game

I'm only sort of surprised seeing how most bundles that should be going off the shelves is the Wind Waker one.

Are those being tracked as Wind Waker sales? Considering the game in that bundle is a digital code and all.

I would assume the windwaker bundle is selling far more

Hmm.. I doubt that Beyond will reach Heavy Rain numbers.. which is quite surprising, considering that Heavy Rain was an exclusive, new IP from an unknown studio to an unpopular genre.

Beyond Two souls had at least more marketing, known actors and the success of Heavy Rain helping it. So, how come it is (presumably) selling less than HR?

Beyond performing as expected, and Dragon Crown charting is good too. Also, interesting to see Nintendo Land entering the chart again, even if it is at the last place.

Well, to be fair, Heavy Rain came out during a relatively quiet month, and got great reviews. Beyond is coming out at the busiest time of year (even launching the same week as Pokemon), and is get a middling response critically.
