What a dumb thing to make exclusive. Shooters like this don't make money anymore (outside of the nerdcore), so who the fuck knows what they were thinking.

Then again, Microsoft probably paid them more than they'd earn on the game otherwise just to get the exclusive.

Enjoy it, MS, you petty motherfuckers.

Well, to be honest: The 360 is the SHMUP (I assume what you mean by "shooter") machine this generation. Mostly because Sony has been asleep at the wheel on fostering that genre in the US/EU (hell, JAPAN).

I can't see Microsoft paying for RayStorm HD exclusivity, however they do like locking XBLA games down to temporary exclusive contracts - perhaps MS told Taito that they'd only certify RayStorm HD for XBLA if it was at least a 6 or 12 month exclusive in the US & EU.

Lead & Gold is a lot of fun, but I fear for the community - the game has a tough start as it is in the US, what with it going up against the MW2 Stimulus package and only a short while before Red Dead Redemption releases, but also the fact that Fatshark have locked the games servers by region means the already dwindling EU community won't benefit from an influx of new players from the US.

I played Raystorm briefly but really never got into it.

I may pick it up.

Also, is Lead & Gold coming to XBLA? I didn't hear anything. If XBLA doesn't get that than I guess it's even since I'm more interested in that than Raystorm.

It's supposed to be coming to XBLA, but there's been no word from Microsoft or the developers and the release date is still TBA.

Wait, I just need confirmation again, is Raystorm HD coming out in North America? I think there was a thread somewhere on gaf that said otherwise. With that confirmation I'll pull the trigger on the JP version.

EDIT: I read the previous posts, but @ 1500Y I'll think about it.

If it doesn't, it'd be odd, since a game like that would probably be more successful on Live.

Anyway, I'm glad it's coming to the US at least.

Shit. I was kinda pinning my hopes on this before I give up on the game and write it off as a bad purchase. I want to enjoy the game but a solitary man in a ghost town doth not a deathmatch make.

Long post because nothing gets my goat more than "MS moneyhatted that 2D shooter why isn't it on PS3." Sony's long been hostile towards arcade games, and shooters in particular. And I say all this as someone who wishes all these games were on PS3 and thinks PS2 is just about the best console ever, so spare me your grief, fun boys.

PuppetMaster said:
What exactly is it you think Sony should do to "foster" that genre?
For one thing they could try not denying approval for some of the best shooters ever made.

Years ago Arika wanted to port Ketsui to the PS2, but the hardware wasn't up to the task. They canned the port and made plans for a PS3 release instead. Unfortunately Sony denied their request for PS3 devkits. Sony does not like old fashioned games on their fancy new hardware. Recently another developer released a port of the game for 360 after many years of waiting. It's fabulous.

There are standalone console ports of Metal Slug 3 for PS2 and Xbox. Only the Xbox version came out in the US. SCEA rejected the PS2 version. Years later it was released as part of a compilation at a budget price, which tended to be the only way 2D arcade games could gain SCEA approval. Mobile Light Force never forget.

Agetec* wanted to release the PS2 port of Dodonpachi Dai Ou Jou in the United States. SCEA denied approval. It remains exclusive to Japan. A 360 port was released last year. It was a bit of a mess but they are supposedly patching it.

There are plenty of non-shooter examples, too. Go look at the tons of weirdo Japanese games that were released in Europe, where the Playstation approval process wasn't so strict, that never made it to the US. Europe has an English version of the Earth Defense Force prequel! The one with the jetpack girl. It may be even better than the 360 game. Europe also has Outrun Online on PSN! US doesn't. Ignition wanted to release a PS3 version of Deadly Premonition. For some reason it hasn't happened. Why? It's a mystery.

Sony's not as bad as they used to be, though. At least they allowed Atlus to publish Demon's Souls in the US. In the past it would have been stuck in Asia forever.

Anyone bitching about an arcade game being exclusive to another console and blaming it on "money hats" is either a console warrior or recently got into the genre and didn't have to deal with all the nonsense Sony's pulled over the years. The shooting genre is non-existant on PS3 because MS Japan offers the developers better terms and isn't quite as arrogant as Sony was/is.

Oh and it's also cuz Microsoft tossed around millions of dollars to developers of H-games and shooters that barely sell 10,000 copies OH YEAH CAN'T FORGET THAT.

*At least I think it was Agetec. Either them or some other weirdo small publisher. I do know Agetec translated Shadow Tower Abyss but SCEA rejected it. Shadow Tower is similar to King's Field. Demon's Souls is King's Field HD. This rejection was a crime. Still waiting for someone to leak the translation!

(Also I am not calling you a console warrior or anything like that, PuppetMaster. Just using your post as a jumping off point.)

Rummy Bunnz said:

Note: I'm only quoting you partially, but I'm responding to your entire post. Just didn't want to leave a big ass quote block there.

Your rant seems a bit unnecessary to me. Your heart is in the right place, but your logic is flawed.

You're comparing apples to oranges.

You can talk all you want about Sony-this and Sony-that, but all of your examples pertain to physical releases (mostly from last-gen, no less). On PSN, it's a different story entirely. Sony has championed the weird, artistic, and esoteric. Shit like Flower and Pixeljunk Shooter wouldn't have made it anywhere in a previous console generation. Yet, somehow, you think Sony is partially to blame for Raystorm HD being an XBL exclusive. Raystorm HD can't cut the mustard, but fl0w can? In light of examples like that, your argument kinda falls apart.

Edit: I agree it's a shame about Outrun HD, but again, your argument doesn't work even there. They released After Burner Climax, which represents a far more obscure franchise in comparison (Outrun got new additions to the series last-gen, but no one's seen a new After Burner game in years on a console, PSP notwithstanding).

Shit. I was kinda pinning my hopes on this before I give up on the game and write it off as a bad purchase. I want to enjoy the game but a solitary man in a ghost town doth not a deathmatch make.

I found a bit of clarification about the region locking on the Lead & Gold forums;

If you select Quick Match it will put you in the closest running game to you, whereas if you do a detailed search you will get the 20 closest games to you - this means that if there are only 10 games running on the EU servers, the other 10 displayed will be games from the US servers. Also, this presumably means US & EU gamers will be able to join up in private matches. Plus, there was mention of maybe patching in a region option in to the detailed search.

Did anyone pick up Secret Of Monkey Island a few weeks back?

I need to know if it has Leaderboards -- and if it does, what is the current "total" amount of players on it?

Thanks!

I did. but the Leaderboards don´t work.. PS3 freezes... Í live in Europe and downloaded it from US store.. so that might be MY problem.. but I recall several other people having that problem.. also some small freezing problems while the game autosaves..

and the 5th. of May in the rest of Europe with THIS price:

£10.99 for the MW2 map pack is outrageous. Makes me think twice about getting it. Might just dive back in for the double XP and forget the new maps.

Cheers man. I was wondering if they'd just open up the server browser when it was obvious the community needed a little help. It has potential to be a really enjoyable game, just needs more players.

Gamasutra.
Pac-man CE. Please, for the love of all that's good and wholesome, just release it or let us know it's not really coming. Then I can end my vigil.

Please, Sony. Don't make me end up like Gamecocks625...
