Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday claimed that his country correctly predicted Donald Trump’s electoral victory and characterized Democrats as sore losers eager to blame anyone else for their losses.

Speaking at his annual news conference, Putin said he hoped to have a productive relationship with Trump. “Nobody believed he would win except for us,” he said.

On Friday, Putin cast Democrats in the U.S. as desperate. "They are losing on all fronts and looking elsewhere for things to blame. In my view this, how shall I say it, degrades their own dignity,” Putin said. “You have to know how to lose with dignity."

Putin knows about making sure you don't lose so he doesn't degrades his own dignity.

Allegations were made that Putin supporters had been driven around in coaches in order to vote for him in multiple constituencies (which is known as carousel voting).[30] These practices were documented by video monitoring systems installed on most voting stations.[31]

Pravda alleged that industrial plants with a continuous-cycle production have violated the law by bussing workers to polling centres.[32] The chairman of the Moscow Election Committee Valentin Gorbunov countered the accusation saying that this was normal practice and did not constitute a violation. According to Iosif Diskin, a member of the Public Chamber of Russia, there were special observers who controlled that workers have legal absentee certificates. Information about carousel voting was, according to him, not confirmed.[33] Georgy Fyodorov, director of the NGO "Citizens Watch" ("Гражданский контроль"), said that statements from the monitoring group GOLOS about carousel voting in Strogino District were false,[34] however, Citizens Watch never addressed the evidence of the electoral fraud presented by GOLOS. The level of electoral manipulation is substantial. According to GOLOS, one third of all electoral commissions had substantial irregularities at the stage of vote counting and tabulation.[35]

Claims that Putin's share of the vote was inflated by up to 10% were dismissed by Putin in a talk with journalists: "It's possible there were irregularities, probably there were some. But they can only influence hundredths of a per cent. Well, maybe one per cent; that I can imagine. But no more."[36] Ruža Tomašić, OSCE observer from Croatia, noted that there were no irregularities at five polling stations near Kaluga.[37]

There are plenty of people that said a Trump presidency was a very real possibility, no one took them seriously unfortunately.

The whole press conference was very interesting actually.

@posterabovethispost: how did they influence it?

Interesting how? Could you give a short summary of noteworthy stuff?

As for the claims of a surplus of up to 10% due to voting fraud - his party would still have 44% and the 2nd and 3rd strongest parties are the communists and ultra-nationalists, so yeah.. it's also kind of a 'be careful what you wish for' situation.

They got their puppet in the white house so they'll be fine.

With the man crush trump has for Putin, being president of his fan club, all Putin has to do is talk to trump like if they were friends, invite him to dinners and trump will be up to do whatever Putin suggests.

Lol he's taking a victory lap. The next 4 years will be interesting to say the least. This is like WWE meets politics.

Putin praised the modernization of Russian military might to "USSR levels." Announced a new arms contract with Serbia (who is bordered by NATO allies. Praised Russian action Syria saying it shows their effectiveness and will have buyers lining up to purchase Russian arms. Also called for new nukes capable of defeating anti-missile tech.

Edit: 2nd part Putin allows a percentage of "opposition" (they are still pro Putin, just different). Plus he controls the media so coverage is only pro-Putin. Russian elections are as meaningful as Assad's or Saddam's.

The Russian leader also sought to play down a potential nuclear stand-off with the future US president, a day after they both pledged to bolster their nuclear capabilities.

Putin insisted there was "nothing unusual" about Trump's call in a tweet Thursday to bolster America's nuclear capability, hours after the Russian leader ordered his top brass to strengthen Moscow's "nuclear potential".

"We will never look to be dragged into an armed race and to spend resources that we can't afford," Putin said, after insisting he understood the US was the stronger military power but "we just say that we are stronger than any aggressor".

“Indeed, they have more missiles, more submarines and more aircraft carriers, we aren’t arguing with that, but we are simply stronger than any aggressor.”

Putin says the Russian military modernization helped strengthen the nation’s nuclear forces, adding that Russian military’s nuclear missiles can penetrate any missile defense.

Putin said Russia had to develop the capability after the U.S. in 2001 opted out of a Cold War-era treaty banning missile defense systems. He added that “it’s not us who have been speeding up the arms race.”

He argued that the modernization of Russian nuclear forces is in line with existing arms control agreements, including the New Start Treaty with the United States.

He said that faced with the development of U.S. missile defense systems, Russia has developed nuclear weapons capable of piercing it.

On Thursday, Mr. Trump’s transition team had attempted to clarify the president-elect’s position on nuclear weapons.

“In his quest to keep us safe and secure, he’s putting the world on notice,” senior adviser Kellyanne Conway said on MSNBC that day. “What he’s saying is we need to expand our nuclear capability, really our nuclear readiness or our capability to be ready for those who also have nuclear weapons. … I think that we’re getting a little too far ahead of ourselves that he’s changing policy and making policy in a way that he did not intend.”

No shit he believed, he did everything short of rigging the actual voting to make sure Trump won.

Yup. People are surprised as if the US hasn't done the same to Putin and financing his opposition covertly or applying pressure against Putin favored governments like in Ukraine. This is the nature of world power politics. At the end of the day, Hillary Clinton still won the popular vote and lost by millions, the Russians didn't rig anything and their hackers only confirmed what was widely suspected that there was impropriety and collusion between the Clinton campaign and the upper echelons of the DNC. The Russians only did it because a man like Trump is their puppet. He will let Russia get away with things and a man with ties to Putin and the Russian oil and gas industry is now Secretary of State. Reagan would be rolling in his grave and Stalin and Khruschev and Soviet leaders would be giddy at the thought that their successor has engineered perhaps the most pro-Russian US government ever.

He's right about the democrats. It was supposed to be the Republican party that imploded but it was the opposite.

No kidding. People were saying the GOP would never recover and the alt-right would fade away when the Dems are finished right now at every level. Even in NC where they won Governorship the GOP has just neutered them. Texas was supposed to go blue and yet a state like Pennsylvania went Red and neo-nazis are giddy with glee.

Ctrl F: "putin" = no results

Wikileaks is a Russian website now?

Serious question: If Trump is a Russian puppet why all the talk of our countries getting in
an arms race again? Of all the talk about resetting relations with Russia it seems like the only thing getting reset is the Cold War.

I don't know much about russian-chinese relations, but a Trump-led US can focus its external economy policies on Russia (lifting sanctions, increasing trade, exporting jobs to them, having US companies invest in exploitation of natural resources, etc) instead of China, alienating the latter in benefit of the former, hence creating some political tension in Asia.
We already see Trump's cabinet choices being kinda anti-China.
This is all conjecture tho.

There are plenty of people that said a Trump presidency was a very real possibility, no one took them seriously unfortunately.

Even when given percentage chances like 15% people were laughing it off as if it was nothing.
Roll a 6 and you will die.
Yeah like it's going to land on 6 lol

The idea that Trump is a Russian agent or this unstoppable force that couldn't have been stopped is almost as dangerous as he actually is.

Given Trump history of being on WWE so damn much, its not like WWE meets politics, it IS WWE politics

I don't think he was on WWE TV that much. Trump Plaza hosted WM 4 and 5 in the 80's, and he had that storyline for WM23. Can't really remember much beyond that. Him beating up Vince McMahon and shaving his head? Probably the best thing.

Although that storyline legitimately made investors think he bought half the company for like 2 days.

Trump was on WWE about a billion times more than any other President of the United States. I know this is America and having shit like that happen is some wonderful awesome thing, but it shouldnt be.
