Microsoft have said that their first party titles will still release on the Xbox one for the first few years, so if you have a PC that can match the seven year old hardware in the XBO then you're good.

Mine's on par with the XBox One X so hopefully it will do for a few more years yet. 😂

I will probably eventually get a PS5 for exclusives but since PC plays all XSX games I am both not getting one of those and getting one of those for free.

That's not a poll and that type of comparison has zero statistical predictive value. Techspot among others have actual polls with 10s of thousands of votes which show a roughly 50/50 split.

I can't find that Techspot poll.

Here was IGN's with over 50k votes:

That IGN poll is a solid indicator although it should be noted that it was conducted the week of July 6th and isn't current. I don't see an updated poll or location to vote right now.

The one on Techspot has apparently been taken down for the moment without notice.

Another poll showing similar results to the Techspot poll is on Techpowerup, it is a currently active poll with a little over ~40k votes which shows a slight 51% - 49% advantage for Xbox Series X. It's on the front page of the Techpowerup website right now.

Its unlikely the Xbox games showcase would've moved the needle on that IGN poll much if any. But, as noted there are other large polls showing quite different results.

Edit: a currently active poll on AndroidAuthority.com with a little over ~12k votes shows XseX 33%, PS5 62%, Other (Switch, PC, etc) 5.1%

Yeh I've seen that as I use TPU but it's heavily skewed towards MS/Xbox as it's obviously a PC site and majority NA-based traffic.

IGN's is the best barometer in terms of demographic as it's console-centric and full of casuals. It's the biggest gaming website by far still.

I think the split will be 2.5:1 this gen or even more heavily skewed to PS5 and thats ok as MS can make money from Gamepass with a much smaller install base.

Ah yes, the classic "I played this game for 5 minutes so I think I know what I'm talking about".

Read the Steam reviews, people are mentioning the visuals. Read through the OT for the game here:

Again, people are talking about being impressed by the visuals.

A few screenshots from my current playthrough:

Sorry your computer couldn't do the game justice.
I don't know whats so hard for you to understand? Everything you've stated is an opinion and not a fact. I'm not obliged to agree with your opinion. Linking a collection of opinions that agree with yours is not going to make me change my opinion. A plagues tale is one of the most boring games I've spent time "playing" and its animations/game feel leave a lot to be desired imo. Visually, it leans heavily on its art direction but graphically, its just okay. You're are entitled to like what you like and I'm entitled to disagree. Move on.....

The Xbox showcase helped me realize I only need PS5. I'll probably get an Xbox some time down the line.

I know I'm repeating myself, but you have to take the "both" votes into account, too. Just looking at the one-console buyers gives you a distorted picture. It makes it look like the ratio is 6 to 1 in favor of Playstation, when actually, if you include the people who are getting both consoles, the ratio drops to 3.75 to 1.

Granted, that's still heavily in favor of PS5. It's roughly double the 2 to 1 in all previous polls.

This forum is horribly biased though. Those IGN numbers are more realistic.

More than likely I will buy one at some point, but I think I will upgrade my GPU to a 3080ti this year instead.

I have a gaming PC and don't need a console day one. I gifted my PS4 to a friend (it collected dust here anyway) and will wait for the price drop to buy PS5 and catch up on all exclusives I missed this gen and play a new ones.

For 99% of people, Halo: Infinite was running on SeX. You gotta admit, that game has dampened a load of people's interest in owning one. It was supposed to do the opposite.

This is where I'm at. I can't justify getting both at launch

If Everwild, Hellblade 2 and Avowed look good during gameplay then I'll need a few more to drop the cash on a Xbox Series X

I honestly don't think that is true. It certainly didn't sway anyone on the fence, but most who were planning to buy a XSX before Craig are still buying one after.

Those three games are a long ways off, Fable too.

Avowed and Fable look to be as far along as Elder Scrolls VI was it was announced.

Hellblade 2 will beafe in Unreal Engine 5, which won't even be available until next year.

And Everwild hasn't even determined what type of gameplay it will have.

I think waiting for more info is a pretty safe bet.

Yep, and Avowed sounds crazy ambitious so who knows if it'll even see the light of day lol I know Everwild is just art right now but it looks sooo good :(

I might get a XSX in 2023 or possibly even later

I can wait on both, if it is anything like the previous consoles if I wait a year or so I can allow problems with the hardware to get sorted out, the libraries to get better, and prices to get lower. I appreciate all of the early adopters effectively subsidizing my future purchase.

This is why MS is changing their strategy. There are not going to win a console sales contest with Sony. Sony has way too much mindshare and have been in the console gaming business way longer. There are entire countries that will never buy an Xbox. Why fight on your competitors territory? Carve your own path. MS will be fine.

Lol that results.

Its not GAF, it's the entire gaming mindset that GAF represents.

That's just where the general gamers interests are at the moment. At least until MS shows some games that turn some heads.

I find it interesting that only 5% are undecided at this point. I would've expected more.

Console wars are a bit like American presidential elections. Most people know who they're voting for just by party loyalty alone/

Good luck trying to run Forza Motorsport 7 at 4k / 60fps on a pc from 7 years ago.

I’ve seen nothing from either machine at launch to warrant a purchase. I’ll be sitting this one out. First time I’ve ever skipped a console launch. Maybe something in August will grab me, but I doubt it.

No it isn't. We know from the trailer description of TES VI that it was in pre-production in June 2018

Regardless of the rumored leak, we know from Linkedin profiles, project names and Microsoft's statement about how there was a project that made them buy Obsidian (which by process of elimination only leaves Awoved) that Avowed has started pre-production at the latest in July/August 2018.

So, from a starting point both projects are actually quite similiar. Obsidian also doesn't have a huge project like Starfield occupy their time as much (Outer Worlds never broke 80 people during its development, hovering around 60-70). So, I wouldn't expect TES VI to be much further along, if at all.

That said Avowed is most likely still 2-3 years out, so your point about long ways off still somewhat stands.

I looked at the "both" and "neither" votes in previous polls, compared to this one, and I noticed two interesting things:

1. The percentage of people voting "Both" has decreased by over half. Back in March and April, 19% to 22% said they were planning to buy both. Now, after both companies have had their reveals, only 8.6% say they are getting both. The "both" votes have dropped by over half.

2. The "Neither" votes have doubled. Back in April, 8% said "neither;" in the current poll, 16.6% are saying "neither." I can see two possible explanations for that: 1) The reveals caused a lot of people to decide to hold off on buying either console for the first year or two; or 2) I added a qualifier to this poll option ("at least not for the first year or two"), which was not present in previous polls. That might have helped some people choose "neither" as an option, who felt a simple "neither" was too declarative or final.

TLDR: After the reveals, people voting "both" went down by half, and people voting "neither" doubled.

I goofed up and posted in an old poll thread, which necro'd it, so I'm working on getting that closed. There may be some confusion in the meantime. Sorry about that. My bad. This is the correct/current poll. The other one is an old one from last Dec.

I'll bring over two quotes from that other thread, which belong here.

How has the PS5 vs XsX vote changed, if any?

I'll check on that and get back to you.

Yeah I voted both before but now it seems it'll be neither for me. I mean, why do you need those consoles if you can play all the games on PC? It's funny/sad that after such a weak launch lineup PS4/XB1 had, both Sony and MS claimed how strong their upcoming lineup will be, only to turn out it will be even weaker, much weaker than 7 years ago, they basically have no games ready for those consoles, and won't have until 2022/23, at that time we will most likely get the slim models already, if not even mid-gen refresh models...

Yeah, I think a lot of people were underwhelmed with these reveals. I'd give them both about a C. I liked Sony's better, but not by a whole lot. I'm one of those "neither" voters myself. I don't see a real reason to buy one, not for a year or two, anyhow. I might end up buying one just to treat myself, but it won't be because I feel compelled to.

Shmunter Shmunter , re. XSX and PS5 votes. I'll use a poll from April 9 as comparison, and I'll use raw votes rather than percentages.

Back in April -- a few weeks after Cerny's tech reveal, but well before either of the major console reveals -- 440 people were planning on getting a PS5, and 221 people an XSX. In the current poll, after both console reveals, 436 people plan on getting a PS5, and 117 plan on getting an XSX. Both polls had roughly the same number of voters (this one has a few more).

So, the PS5 number has stayed pretty steady, but the XSX number has dropped by almost half, from 221 to 117.

Thts cool. I thoroughly enjoyed my ps4 at launch even with just a few games like Infamous, Shadow Fall and Drive Club after. The tech and the ftp games held me over good.

You give me just one of these four at launch, GT, Spiderman, Ratchet or Horizon with one or two third party and I'm a step ahead ps4 launch and very happy. Plus not to mention I have psvr which is bc and I'm dying to see if the games are enhanced :)

The Xbox because it’s more powerful and has the superior controller. With that being said I get both consoles every gen so eventually I will get a ps5.

Having decided to one day put out another Elder Scrolls and paying someone to come up with a quick render trailer already is pre-production.
Pre-production literally only means you haven't even started yet.

Xbox Series X first without a doubt. I have a Gamepass subscription until late 2021. Plus with most/all games backwards compatible I'll have thousands of games available to play day one. I'll probably get a PS5 later down the line once God of War 2 launches. I have owned both Xbox and PS consoles the last two generations and I plan to do the same again.

Yeah, possibly. But I’m not going to assume anything on that front and it just further proves my point.
