Well here it's only co-op, but yeah, it's gonna be lols if Counter-Strike 2 is cross-platform play because there is no way in hell Valve will give the pad players auto-aim as help.Orin GA said:(PC/Mac vs. PS3) for multiplayer games

I'd imagine they'd go the UT3 route and give PS3 players the option of kb/mouse, and then allow you to separate games based on pad/kb mouse or both. It's a shame that UT3 is the only one that still does that to this day. Very cool feature.Stallion Free said:Well here it's only co-op, but yeah, it's gonna be lols if Counter-Strike 2 is cross-platform play because there is no way in hell Valve will give the pad players auto-aim as help.

Well duh. That's why I cited CS2 as an example of where cross-platform play would have legitimate issues.PortTwo said:To be fair it's not like Portal is all about headshots and sniping, it's largely a puzzle game.

As people have said before, it's likely going to be a single code for both PS3 online functionality/PC version. This would leave the PS3 disk being resold with only singleplayer and splitscreen working. No multiplayer, cloud saves or other Steam features. This would also mean that PC and PS3 copies can't be played online simultaneously ass you can't log your Steam account in to two PCs concurrently.hey_it's_that_dog said:Valve is doing something really cool for gamers and you'd be doing something shitty in return. I guess this has already been discussed plenty, but I wonder how they're going to deal with this.

In addition, those who purchase Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 may unlock a Steam Play (PC & Mac) copy of Portal 2 at no additional cost by linking their PSN and Steam accounts.
"We made a promise to gamers at E3 that Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 would be the best console version of the product," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. "Working together with Sony we have identified a set of features we believe are very compelling to gamers. We hope to expand upon the foundation being laid in Portal 2 with more Steam features and functionality in DLC and future content releases."
"We designed the Portal 2 PS3 experience to be very straightforward for gamers," said Josh Weier, project lead on Portal 2 at Valve. "PS3 gamers will be able to simply drop the Blu-Ray disc in the PS3, link to their Steam account from inside the game, and all their Steam friends (on PC and Mac) will be visible and accessible for chat and game invites."

Right, but I'm not sure if the activation code to activate the PC version is actually inside the PS3 version or just in the box. If its on the disc, I don't own a PS3 and have no way to get itFINALBOSS said:Any PC-Gamer would be stupid not to buy the PS3 version. No, pretty sure you will have to sign up for steam to play your portal 2 online with the ps3. You will have to use that same login on the pc. They will log each other off if you try playing at the same time.Earl Cazone said:so will i be able to redeem the code on a pc at a friend's house so we can play coop together, he on pc and me on ps3 or will be need to buy another copy
They mean may as in it's up to you to do so, there's been no indication this isn't an option for every PS3 copy, and it's been pretty clear it's not a limited thing.Cyborg said:Am I the only one who is seeing the word MAY so its not certain every copy will have this option. May or May not.........

Yes, they would have a feature incomplete version of the game. They would be missing out on a lot of the cool bonuses that Steam brings too, like cloud saves.Atomski said:Also talking about used copies.. wont it really screw over people who buy it used. That's the only way to get the PC version though is through linking them and once you do that, your PS3 copy is gimped on resell.StuBurns said:They mean may as in it's up to you to do so, there's been no indication this isn't an option for every PS3 copy, and it's been pretty clear it's not a limited thing.

Indeed, and I think that's perfectly fine. I know a lot of GAF are really against things like online-pass, and generally I don't think it's cool, but this is a very different situation and I think they're doing something awesome. I just hope people actually bother to buy it on PS3. The Orange Box didn't do well, there's a good chance the PS3 audience at large have not played Portal. I'm kind of surprised Portal isn't included in the PS3 version actually, or that it wasn't released on PSN recently.Stallion Free said:That's the only way to get the PC version though is through linking them and once you do that, your PS3 copy is gimped on resell.

You mean the normal consumer who buys the game used? Maybe there will be the EA thing of also allowing people to buy an online license for use with a used copy.Atomski said:To the normal consumer though who is not aware it will be quiet the bummer. [Exclusive] PORTAL 3 Exclusive to PS3?
Were you just as surprised as we were when Left 4 Dead 2 was announced, at Microsofts 2009 E3 presser, to hit store shelves just one year after the original did? It seems like the usually-mysterious, typically-slow Valve has yet another one-two punch up its sleeve.
According to a well-placed source from deep within Valve Corps camp, the developer is set to drop another Electronic Entertainment Expo bombshell at Sonys conference this year, revealing that the recently patched relationship between the two is continuing to produce some amazing fruits: a Steam-run and -operated Portal 3, exclusive to the PlayStation 3 (thanks to Microsofts amazingly constrained Xbox Live parameters), releasing next summer just a tad over a year after Portal 2s April 19th ship date.
Thats the definite. The still-hazy, just-a-consideration-for-now part? The game will support 3D, on both the PS3 and PC, and just maybe Move controls, although weve all seen just how well motion control rumors panned out with the current release.
Our source has provided some incredibly and consistently reliable information in the past, but given just how much secrecy shrouds Portal 3, well still chalk all of this up to rumor for now. Except all to be made official at this Junes E3.
Thought that was an incredibly insane idea, then read past the headline and saw that the article means it'd be crossplatform between PS3 and PC, now I only think it's mildly ridiculous. I could see it happening, I suppose, but I'd be seriously surprised. I don't think Valve wants to leave money on the table, but the PC/Steam version is both the most important and the one that'll be most lucrative for them, so... who knows. Color me extraordinarily skeptical.Zoibie said:Well... this would be interesting.

1-D_FTW said:So they're not even done with Portal 2 yet, and Portal 3 is being gunned as a PS3 console exclusive for next summer? I call hit seeking whores bullshit.
EDIT: I said the same thing about L4D2 rumors, but until the noise becomes louder, I'll continue to think it's hit seeking.

Yes folks, we cannot tell you who this source is but rest assured they have made many accurate and surprising statements prior. All will be revealed come E3 at Nintendo's conference!

Of course there is: a deal with Sony.gdt5016 said:Bullllllllllllshiiiiiiiit.
There is no reason at all for Valve (of all companies) to ignore the 360 userbase.
Except there was a reason for the quick sequel to L4D; it wasn't made entirely in house, and by the time it was out they were bursting with ideas for new stuff that couldn't be fit in. Portal 2 has had a completely different development that L4D1 did.Shurs said:Left 4 Dead got a quick (and good) sequel.
It wouldn't be entirely improbable to see Portal 3 a little over a year from Portal 2's release. No 360 version seems a bit suspect, though.
