The more interesting news to me is that they'll be doing their own version of 'Steam Next Fest'. Dope and wish more platform holders would do such events.

This actually aligns with their recent corporate earnings release where they had started using Microsoft Gaming as the top brand. Xbox Studios was a sub brand but no doubt both Xbox Studios and Activision will disappear as redundant layers, and Microsoft Gaming will be the division consisting of of 343, Rare, Blizzard, King, Infinity Ward etc.

Long term, this is what will happen.

And to a large degree it makes sense, because why would anyone want to hook up their multi-front gaming offer to a failed console brand?

Harsh as it sounds, that's not an unfair description given how long Xbox has been around, how much money has been poured into it, and where it stands in the market in 2024.

Sony allows other publishers to have sub services on their platform. Maybe if Microsoft did the same thing but only with their 1st party titles it would be accepted. Not to mention adding the option to buy those titles as well.
