Just like the Wiimote, Kinect, Move, and Wii U Pad before it, I'm definitely excited to try it.
Sounds really disappointing! Not only did they not show any content for this deal, the device itself still seems in the prototype stage. All the reports said it was further along than Oculus Rift. This unveiling dispells that notion.
This unveil was a major let down. If the device wasn't ready to be shown, they shouldn't have done the reveal now. Cone on! Not one game demoed for it? Even OR has done that!
VR is really a thing?
It seems niche.
More specs details
This may have been answered but what does this mean for games locked at 30fps? No Morpheus support? Sub 1080p with 30fps?
From Sony's PR,
so, does this mean it has to be used with a headphone? I would think a conventional X.1 system won't be effective to setup the stereoscopic sound stage.
Fantastic reveal from Sony.
They had to get devs on board, but once they did the cat would have been out of the bag quickly. So a concise and technical but still sleek reveal at GDC is perfect. Then you show some tech demos at E3 and get devs ready for the big launch in 2015, while the hype builds from this very moment.
If it's true that the picture quality is better than Oculus, this thing could be amazing. PS4 makes it a much easier sell in the living room than a PC. It sounds amazing, my hype has gone through the roof and I don't even want VR.
The one question I have is what kind of graphics we can expect and what we'd accept. Would we accept a regression to PS2-era graphics so that the PS4 can create two HD images and do the extra processing required? Is that what we should expect?
To be honest, if I'm moving around virtually in Res Evil 4 or driving in GT4 then that'll be good enough for me. That's my level of expectation - PS2 era graphics but in 720p+ in both eyes and at 60fps. Come on Sony, deliver.
I still don't believe VR will ever properly take off in this form

The devkits work with custom headphones.

sure, nothing a 3.5mm jack can't solve. I was wondering if it comes with a pair of small speakers/phones installed.

Games have to be developed for it, not shoehorned

The hardware looks and sounds great, even if it is potentially quite a ways off from being on store shelves. I'm still more interested in the Oculus Rift though simply because it isn't tied to a console but if Sony announced PC support further down the line then I'd definitely be on board.
It's the recording/editing/ mixing that matter for stereoscopic sound. We've had the ability to listen to binaural audio on traditional headphones for decades now
.
Except oculus rift is close to release. This will probably release after oculus retaildev kit or crystal cove (which is even not the best Oculus have internal)? If he compares to dev kit it´s not really hard to be better.
Maybe we will get some impressions to Valve´s VR demo tomorrow. Both could/can be tested on a gamedev event i bet there are alot of people who will have tested both after tomorrow. And Oculus talk is in the next 1-2days too.
This is pretty much like the Last Guardian. Its never coming out.

Keighley loves gettin' his lips on some corporate dick
Finally. Jumping Flash VR.
The first company that makes a killer VR MMO wins the internets.
They (either Sony or the live blog author) said Kinect doesn't have the fidelity for VR (the refresh isn't high enough).
Tying a VR headset to a certain kind of hardware is ridiculous anyway.
Or are we expected to buy 3 VR headsets for xbox, playstation and PC?
Uhh... best to wait on official word from Microsoft themselves.
Yeah, it's just a prank they're playing on developers because they don't like having third-party support.
Sony mentioned low-persistence. It also has 360 positional tracking unlike the Crystal Cove (because of lights on the back) with a seemingly higher quality stereo-camera.dev kit or crystal cove (which is even not the best Oculus have internal)? If he compares to dev kit it´s not really hard to be better.
Holiday 2014 with Driveclub release. I am calling it.

Imagine a character model interactive mode for an Anarchy Reigns sequel with the Sony VR.Imagine... DOAXBV or Tomb Raider with the Sony VR...
Latency values?
Head tracking and positional tracking accuracy values?
Low persistence?
A bit worrying that they have chosen to leave those values out and flaunt the rest even though it's a work in progress, those are arguably the most important bits of info

And just like that, Morpheus replaces Antonio as the PS mascot lol.
