What's #driveclub?Drive club is gone forever
i'm sure they understood the requirements of regular old 3D too, didn't stop them from showcasing it with crysis 2 on PS3 as it chugged to single digit framerates, resulting in the kind of migraine inducing experience which would've sent james cameron back to 35mm.
it doesn't matter how well built the headset is, it won't make the PS4 any more capable an engine for its requirements.
You know the Xbox One controller has 2 IR lights that's are tracked by the Kinect right? Regarding polling rate, I don't know how it differs from skeletal tracking versus the IR lights in the controller.
Curious if MS people are already scheduling meetings to "discuss" the implications of this. Fortaleza is a Fisher Price toy compared to VR. It will be interesting to see if they will try and enter this space now in some form.

So my question is does this have to be 60fps to even work or will a lower frame rate just be a worse experience like it is with a TV/Monitor?
I fear they gonna release a gimped VR experience if they choose to lauch it with the PS4. People in this thread are drooling like kids, but most of them doens't understand that VR requires a lot of hardware resources to deliver.
so basically create the wii sports of VR? Seriously I couldn't imagine Sony wanting anything more as it would mean a lot of money for the company. they will release quality software IMO...We saw the journey image and I think many people will be fine jumping into worlds of that quality and ps4 should be more than capable of handling it.your VR experience is dependant on ever increasing computing demands, whether you want it to or not. nobody with a PS4 spec computer is looking at VR tech as something they think they're going to get a great experience out of without shedding a few notes on whatever beastly circa late 2014/2015 GPU that the VR experience will guzzle down and still ask for more.
sony are demoing this thing with thief - a game which barely scraped 30FPS in monoscopic 1080p on PS4. this should set alarm bells off for anyone who has had concerns of a platform holder pushing VR as a selling point for their suboptimal proprietary device, resulting in a miserable experience for many and the wholesale shunning of the tech for another decade.
for VR to succeed on PS4, it will have to be an exercise in modesty. the PS4 won't be able to keep up with the high end stuff that people will be buying maxwell cards to run, and i hope sony can accept that and cultivate a decent library of unique titles of limited technical complexity, rather than attempt to punch above their weight and drown VR at birth in the eyes of the mass market.
VR was a path I always saw Nintendo taking. Shame Sony stole their thunder before they get to do anything. The contrast between the two companies initiatives is surreal.
MS are already working on their version of VR.

It should really be over 60fps, between 75-90 for low persistence. 30 just won't work. It doesn't cross that threshold where looking around feels natural. 30fps in VR is much worse than 30fps on a TV or monitor. Even 60 on an LCD panel has very noticeable smearing when moving your head around quickly.

Yeah takes a ton of power to do a 1080p image. LOL

Well, one of the major points that was presented by Valve and OR during this years Steam Dev Days conferences was that pre-existing games generally don't work in VR. Slower, smaller experiences based around VR are infinitely more impactful than something like Half-Life 2 being ported over to VR. I think this will actually work in our favour; developers won't need to throw down US$100m budgets creating "Battlefield VR" or whatever - stuff like The Witness is cheaper to make, and actually works better. I suspect any major developer could put a small team on making a VR game, and not have to sell a million copies for it to be well worth the time.Cool technology, but I do wonder how many developers will support it...

I do know it has ir, but I've seen no example of it tracking depth. If if can then I was mistaken, but I do know the 30hz is a camera limitation.
Says who?
What if the next Nintendo console is full VR
not an add on
the surround sound thing is software I think, sony will make software for developer so they can record 3d sound, ps4 will handle the processing and output it to normal headphone. Its like dolby headphone software I think, you can look for demo online and only need normal headphone to experiwnce them. Its pretty awesome imo. If all vr game include that, I can see how it will be super immerrsive for player.Wat? The specifications mention that the headset will include a surround sound like setup.
What the hell are you talking about?
Nintendo leads first, always.
If they've only just begun then they are WAY behind.
Well alright then, but 360 compatibility too? That has me scratching my head a bit.

Let's have a look at Media Molecule's presentation again:

Vitality Sensor coming to Wii Z, 2018?If it doesn't come to PS4 that'd be the earliest reveal of a future accessory yet.
It is that.Do we have any more detail on the resolution? Does 1080p = 960x1080 per eye?
I so wanted that to be real. Well now it is. But not by Nintendo. Late as always to the hardware party.
They normally just buy the company that's been working on it.
Yep. Had me scratching my head a bit as well.

You're expecting Pong in VR, but we've already seen ( the admittedly pretty easy to run) Trine 2 running at twice the resolution in 3D at 60fps. (downsampled to 720p per eye because of HDMI limitations)
Yeah takes a ton of power to do a 1080p image. LOL
