Morpheus |OT| To The WonderSaw a couple of other slides on Game.Impress.
The Castle seems to be inspired by Mont St Michel - very cool!
I hope this VR fad goes away soon.
We will be lucky if it's before Christmas 2015.you guys think this thing will launch before christmas '14?
how long do we read/hear impressions of the dev kit at GDC?
All I need is a proper UT game on Ps4 where you can aim by turning your head.
Would that be possible?
Lol. It's going to be rough for you VR haters as the tech takes off.
But hey, look on the bright side! You'll be able to put on your VR helmet and visit a fantasy world where VR doesn't exist.
Agreed. The more people that jump in to the VR game, the more the tech will be pushed and the more devs will support it. Now instead of pouring R&D and money in to something that only had application for a niche on PC, they can better justify it as it applies to the console market as well. This just makes it more likely that more games will be getting VR support on all platforms that support it.I don't get the negativity either. Its not PC versus consoles.
As Sony described in their slides, "VR is not a peripheral, its a platform itself". This means that it isn't a
I think oculus described it perfectly in that they stated that they welcome another big player like Sony into the VR space, it means there is interest and drive to push the technology forward. and It looks like Sony is no dummy and did their homework, they came to the same conclusions on how to best create a compelling VR device (most likely shared ideas and tech behind closed doors)
Console VR can push the concept of VR to a broader audience, and in turn, the cutting edge of PC can push VR on the technological front. this isn't a fight, its a sparring match trying to improve both players and VR in general.
VR is here to stay and change more then gaming. Its a whole new digital media that goes beyond games, the focus is immersion.
You will have things like, virtual tourism, where you can walk around on the moon or on mars, you can walk around in all kinds of wonderful breathtaking scenery, only limited by your imagination.
Want to experience walking around in an esher painting, its possible.
Want to float in zero G trough space like in gravity, its posible
Want to watch sports like you are on the best seat in the house? its possible
Want to dive in the deepest oceans, or climb to the highest mountains, its possible
Want to experience the thrill of flying, or jump in impossible roller coasters, its possible.
Want to be confronted with your fears like arachnophobia or fear of height, its possible.
VR can change so much and not only in gaming.
All I need is a proper UT game on Ps4 where you can aim by turning your head.

The current dev kit (tentative) has a 1080p display, 90+ degree field of view.
While one or two developers making games specifically for VR headsets will help the technology become established, more will need to be done if it is to go mainstream.
I'm pretty certain I've already seen that on the Oculus Rift. Not quite confirmed but sounds like they probably will have a theater mode for movies, and maybe other non-VR games? I know there's the usual resolution caveats, but could be cool regardless.

I can't wait to put on my Oculus Rift and play a demo where I turn on a PS4 and put on Project Morpheus and then play Driveclub VR Edition.
Oersted said:Oculus Rift plastered over mainstream media? Wut? Mainstream barely knows that VR exists and they know jackshit about Occulus.
I think it's interesting that both Adam Boyes and one of his SCEE counterparts claim they've been showing this to third party devs for the past year. Surprised there was no leaking really. I know we heard things towards the end of last year, but no blurry pics or anything.
Probably very selected third-parties, which may include the tech vendors too.
Aside from Mark Rein, I don't see any other 3rd-party devs who have exclaimed at finally being able to acknowledge its existence.
Hopefully sony is wise enough to not make this ps4 exclusive, and release PC drivers for it as well. Much like the kinect, Rift, or even the wiimote, this woudl generate a ton of free exposure as people use it for various tech demos, as well as increase the potential market.

I hope Sony have a flight simulator planned, i fancy landing an Airbus at Heathrow(and shitting my pants).
No, though SquareEnix Montreal and CCP obviously have their demos. But yeah, I imagine it's been pretty select. More general dev kit distribution has not started yet going by the PR.
To quote you
Last time I checked BBC and The Guardian are mainstream media and they have published plenty of articles about Rift.

If Sony is wise, they will not enter markets they do not intend on sticking with, and they will not produce PC accessories that directly compete with their walled garden gaming ecosystems.Hopefully sony is wise enough to not make this ps4 exclusive, and release PC drivers for it as well. I think they would be mad to...
I bet they have proprietary handshake with Ps4 if they are going to subsidise the headset and make money on software royalties..
They specifically chose for it not to work. They would have to figure out how to make the camera work with PC though.
Oh my god. VR porn is on lock.
That GoW photo doesn't look warped. Why is that? Shouldn't it be warped like the OR images? I wonder if this headset is not using the optical tricks that the OR is using?
I hope this VR fad goes away soon.
I am not sure how this can be better than the OR but some people claim it is.
