PS3 in Europe on 23/3

I'm not Euro, but i live in the pal region.
I will pick up Formula 1 CE, Resistance, Motorstorm and heavenly Sword if its available at launch.
What an absolutely unbeatable launch the PS3 will have.

UK price is equal to over 100k yen? sweet mother of...

Hopefully by the time I can afford one i'll find a way to import, no way im paying that.

*edit* It's also nice to import games months early.

£425 is an exceptionally competitive and reasonable price. The PS3 is next gen, and at such a crazy price i have no doubt that they'll sell out instantly.
It seems the only people whining about the price are those that have no intention in buying this marvelous product even if it were selling at £199.

What games are you Euros picking up for launch?

Resistance, Motorstorm, Virtua Fighter 5 for sure. Maybe RR7 and F1. Possibly Oblivion and SingStar in April. Christ, my wallet...

Move to Japan! Not only have I eliminated Chavs from my life, but I bought a brand new PS3 for £226 (54999yen tax inc). I am in awe of Sony's (and I guess everyone's) pricing discrepancies, again.

Bloody show off, on both accounts.

Seriously, if PS3 will cost that much in the UK, I don't even wanna think about what it's gonna cost here.

PS3 has gone from an expensive console to a "non-option". It costs almost three times the rent I pay each month.

Everyone should get Resistance. It's my GOTY for 2006. March is going to be sick

VF5 (feb 20th here)
Motorstorm
Virtua Tennis 3
MLB 2k7
F1
Calling All Cars

I've lost hope on Heavenly Sword dropping anytime soon

Where is "here" ? The UK had always the worst prices... The "real" Europe never has to pay as much

Well erm... I spose its not as pricey as the saturn launch.:lol
I remember my dad paying over £500 for one with virtua fighter 2 and daytona! He tried to buy me a ps but i (stupidly) refused.

If I was going to buy a ps3, i'd feel violated. What a piss take. However since I dont plan to get one (maybe in a few years), I can laugh.
To soften the blow, I spose sony are right that you are getting a lot for what you pay for. Jus keep telling yourself that your getting top of the range graphics and a blue ray player for half the normal price or a blue ray player lol.
Compared to other electonics in the UK, its is not expensive at all, compared to the xbox360, you feel like its not worth the extra money. It all comes down to that blue ray player.

I think that the PS3 is gonna crash and burn in Germany since it is one of the most price sensitive markets when it comes to videogames. I remember a chart about the sales of the PS2 according to its price there, and compared to the other countries the effects of the pricedrops where way more patent.

About Spain, I expect a good launch here (we have legions of loyal sonierists as well as one of hte biggest PSP markets), however once the lauch frenzy drops the price is gonna be a very big issue, I know many die hard playstation fans that became atonished when they knew about the 600€ tag.

The great mark questions are UK and France. I really don't know what will happen there.

IMHO it will sell out at launch to the early adopters, but the price will be a tough sell in the UK after the hardcore have bought in (hell even some usual launch buyers I know are passing at £425), especially with Wii and 360 for much cheaper, and with must-have titles coming 1st half of 2007.

Not to mention the PS2...

It will be interesting to see how long PS3 can sustain that price point. The first Xbox launched at £299 and dropped to £199 after a couple of months due to poor sales; of course it wasn't the Playstation name of course, but price will be a limiting factor.

Sweden.

Wii = almost 300 euros at launch.
XB360 = around 430 euros at launch.

But then again, we might not be considered "real" Europe :lol

Wouldn't surprise me at all if PS3 went for almost 700 euros here.

Should've voted yes on the euro.

Well, taxes here are higher than in many other countries in the EU, we'll pay the same as them :p. How much is the Swedish VAT? 21%?

A fast google gave me 25%, but I'm not sure.

Oh wow, that is pretty bad.
Yeah, you were right, they'd prolly have tacked on a little extra just like for the Fins and Irish.

what about the PS2? When PS2 first launched there was a cheap PSOne, that didn't stop it. The people that are buying cheap PS2s right now won't be in the market for any kind of next-gen console for another 4 years, so it doesn't matter how expensive PS3 is.

That part is actually 75% true.

Most people complaining about PS3 are the ones that have been hating on PS3 before all the negative news started.

well consider this, most of North American college students graduate with debt, average $10k-20K. Some with $30K-40K.

The average UK student debt last year was around UKP12k (~USD24k) so colour me unimpressed with your figures.

Anyhoo, back on topic, that's -1 from me on the PS3 front. I might get one from the US, or maybe spend it on a DX10 card. It's not even the price that hacks me off it's the fact we're one of the few (only?) countries without the option of the 20 gigger.

I call that bullshit, or rather; 5-10% true. I'd be interested if not for A): The price - which is the biggest issue, obviously and B): Sonys way of handling the launch here in Euroland, and the ****ed up things some of them have been saying. I'm simply getting pretty annoyed.

And now there's more competition, so it's easier criticizing Sony for prices (example) when you can compare it to other consoles which launched a only year earlier (or Wii), regardless of the consoles actual benefits/burdens.

"Playstation 2 Games....Games Under Desk". Classic!

No what's classic is that he has a copyright symbol next to Playstation, and yeah the places where he tries to hid porn and the 360.

And just so everyone knows it is currently 32.812% of people hating that has nothing to do with the price.

looks like Tony Blair was wise to buy his PS3 from america, i bet he was thinking im not paying £425 for a ps3, i can get it mucho cheap in my friend country :lol

The problem is you have to buy the console which is £425, then you need to buy a game and on top of that you need to buy a HDMI cable as well!

Also UK is becoming land of TAX, infact the new tax on airport wasnt too popular im wondering who on earth is going to be able to afford a ps3 these days, living costs are rising but the wages arent going up with inflation and DONT GET ME STARTED ON COUNCIL TAX!!!
