Saw this come up on Patton Oswalt's twitter:

This is disgustingly perfect for Trump's inauguration. And this is only the beginning.

Huh... So not one of his 63 million voters is a remotely successful performer?

Well, a remotely successful performer Trump himself wouldn't be embarrassed to have performing at his inauguration.

Loathe as I am to admit it, he probably does have something approximating musical taste. It's probably just as bad as his taste in decorating, but considering how weirdly specific that predilection is, I wouldn't be shocked if there were broad categories of music he completely eschews.

I mean, I'm honestly a bit shocked he even considers anything other than solid gold dancers.

Hope they scream "Fuck Trump!" during their performance with the inauguration crowd cheering.

That would be a dream come true. Still holding out some hope that Kanye is really engaging in some deep cover theatrics so he can do the same. Absolutely ruin the moment for the orange fuckhead.

Even more ironic when you stop and consider that part of the Congressional GOP's economic plans will revolve around busting up unions in general. The very union that is forcing the Rockettes to perform might find itself gutted under this administration depending on how well state and national GOP legislatures pursue union busting, right-to-work measures.

Not to say the women should quit, but if one did, I'm sure people with or without celebs would make sure shed'd be taken care of until they could find another job - one that preferably wouldn't have to perform for Trump.

If you're going to give up on a show business gig for moral reasons you're not going to get many gigs afterwards.

The act itself isn't trashy though. It's quite amazing.

Some of my fave memories of working at MSG was when I'd have to go over to the Radio City and would see them practice. Hard work and dedication for sure.

Couple times they tried to put me on the spot and show some moves. "Not happening"

this only reaffirms my belief that trump supporters are the lamest people out if they can only get the rockettes and a Mormon choir to perform (Goddamn that Shits gonna be lit)

The thing I find funny about trump is he vacillates between wanting appeal from both "masses" and "elites" . The only true way to get both is to be extraordinarily exceptional . I'm talking Newton, Einstein , Mozart , Gandhi levels and even that also if often post death ... So far I've not seen that in him but well who knows maybe he'll make something good ... Dunno doubt it tho . Also I feel one or the other can be somewhat played into but both is super hard without significant substance ... Which is something I think he I missing.

I don't the "masses" that support trump know who Newton, Mozart, Einstein or Ghandi is...

*googles Rockettes*

Oooooh.

Yeah if I were them I wouldn't go anywhere near Trump either for fear of getting groped and not being able to do anything against the freaking president.

That's shocking on being forced to perform for Trump.

The Beach Boys consider playing at Trump inauguration

Now one group – a band who in many ways embody the spirit and themes of the American dream – have confirmed that they are considering their offer to perform at the event.

“The Beach Boys have been asked to perform as part of the inauguration festivities,” a spokesperson for the for the group told Billboard. “But no decision has been made at this point as to how or whether they will participate. We will let you know as soon as a decision is final.”

Mike Love, a longtime Republican, performed a fundraiser for John McCain in 2008, at which the politician infamously modified a line of the Beach Boys 1965 hit Barbara Ann: “Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran.” In 2012, Beach Boy Bruce Johnston was asked whether he liked the democratic leader: “Obama? Unless you’re interested in never having any money and being socialised.”

So far only one name has been confirmed for Trump’s inauguration: 16-year-old opera singer Jackie Evancho. Announcing her role in an interview with the Today show, she confirmed she would be singing the national anthem.

“It’s a little nerve-racking, but I’m honored,” she said. “I get to perform for the office. I’m very excited.”

Well haha to those who thought 'God Only Knows' in Bioshock Infinite was out of place. ;P

Mike Love didn't write "God Only Knows", Brian Wilson did.

Brian Wilson & Al Jardine are a lot more liberal than Love (as were Carl & Dennis Wilson).

Wow, fuck you Beach Boys.

Not even money can book someone. Surely these bands have done worse for someone's birthday, maybe not as public I guess.

Fuck the AGVA union for forcing the Rockettes to do this.
No! I dislike Trump and wouldn't want to perform for him but the Rockettes who are under contract are employees and their employer gets to decide where they perform so they should suck it up and do what they're paid for.
I can't refuse to do my job either if I dislike a patient, that's the price you pay to have a steady salary. They have the option to quit the Rockettes and become freelance dancers which gives them the right to say "fuck, no" to any offer.

Tending to a needy patient is a bit different than having to dance for the enjoyment of an orange, gross man and his fan base though.

You're seriously comparing a job in healthcare to a job in entertainment?

The Rockettes are being asked to help in the celebration of the new president. If you are asked to help in the celebration of your new boss, when you know his policies mean a dreadful life for everyone involved except those close to him, you have every right to say no.
An entertainer has every right to deny a performance for someone they don't feel comfortable with.

Hetfield just moved from San Fran to get away from libruls so maybe ...

Metallica

I'm pretty sure Metallica would never do that gig lol. They avoid politics as much as possible really. Even within the band it's rarely brought up as the band itself is probably quite diverse on political views.

James Hetfield: Politics drive me crazy, and I don’t like talking politics. Politics get in the way of things; they get in the way of getting things done, and getting our music across is what we wanna do.

There is a lesson here, all the power and money in the world isn't buying Trump any sort of respect.

I feel like that's been the narrative of Trump's entire life. Dude just wants people to love him but he keeps going about it all wrong.

The inauguration can be a very depressing day for many of us. I am planning to go to a fundraiser at a bar/concert hall for the ACLU (several local bands are playing and a State Representative is speaking). I suggest everyone go out and be pro-active that day.

Also if you can get drunk at the same time, even better.

Who wants to be immortalized performing for a future dictator when he tries to destroy the world?

Worth remembering that the mans primary motivations are popularity and wealth. He won't do anything that damages either. That may sound silly at this point, given that he said everything possible to hurt people in his campaign, but all of them were for his popularity, rater than against it. He won't destroy the world, because that costs him his name / brand / wealth.

People that have met the man say he has a deep desire to be validated in the things he does, and when confronted, simply looks to those who tow his line instead. A man like that is no threat to the world. Only to those who he hurts with words. For evidence, look at all the shit he has backtracked on already, now it has served its purpose.

The guy is an impressive level of cunt, but he is a weak and fickle man in reality.

You're forgetting it's not just him in government, it's the horde of travesties he's appointed to major positions.

All they have to do is dance like they would for anyone else. It's what they signed up to do. If they want to make a stand, quit. It's as simple as that. That Facebook post is silly to imply those women are having their bodies used against their will. A job and assault are very different things.

A president who wants to make foreign policy choices in an echo chamber is no threat to the world?

Yeah, Kirk and Lars are both liberals and Kirk recently talked a bit about Trump and basically called him out for what he is. And even if James was some ridiculously hardline Trump supporter willing to do it (which he isn't, he's a moderate republican at best), the rest of the band would probably rather leave than perform there. So yeah, it was a pretty bad joke, and frankly, accusing people of being assholes willing to support this clown is a bit much.
