RUMOUR: Potential Pokémon GO footage.

Looks like a Pokémon AR game. I wonder how the battle system will be, or is it just throwing pokeballs at pokemon?

Guys what were you expecting from a free to play MMO AR smartphone app? A Mainline game like experience? There was no way something like that would happen.

Sure, it does not look good, but don't act like they promised the biggest and best game ever, and suddenly we got that.

As former Ingress player this is even more than I hoped for (I expected sprites)

Lol they promised a lot of shit with that epic trailer, don't act like it's not actually the most hype thing we've seen pokemon-related.
And also, i really think the medium doesn't determine how mediocre your game will be. Remember pokemon started on a device that couldn't even handle color.

So yeah, the backlash will be astronomic. And i really hope it doesn't damage the brand.

I think Sun & Moon will do better :p

But what if it does 14.99 million

I think so too, it'll come close to Black and White

Just needs to do 14,460,001 to do better :p

That sonic mobile game was played by 100 million. Pokemon is bigger than sonic.

It's illogical to think that just because it's Pokémon it'll do well. The Pokémon Company has had to pull the shutter on three apps recently, two of them weren't even past their first year, all because they just weren't doing well. Pokémon Shuffle Mobile's attach rate has only recently passed 5 million downloads on Mobile devices. It's not that far ahead of the 3DS version in doing so. It took less than a month less time than the 3DS version to hit 4 million.

It's not guaranteed success

I don't think it'll be played by 150,000,000 people.

That was implied by the original reveal, yeah

150,000,000 might seem like a lot when talking about handhelds, but just in the last three months of 2015, there were 400,000,000 smartphone sales. Around 1,350,000,000 for the year, and a little less than that but still over a billion in 2014.

Pokemon GO is going to reach an audience much, much larger than any pokemon game before it. I wouldn't be surprised if it does become the top-played Pokemon game.

Someone didn't read the follow up post I made. I never tried to downplay what the trailer did.

Other Pokémon smartphone games haven't reached that. Just because it's Pokémon doesn't mean it'll do well. See my prior post for examples.

5M downloads for a Bejeweled game with a Pokemon skin. That's actually impressive considering the stranglehold Candy Crush has.

150mil are downloads though right? Not sales since the sonic games are free. I mean 150mil seems like a lot for handhelds because people not only pay for them, but they pay $40.

I recommend reading this article with some info about Pokémon Go:

http://venturebeat.com/2015/12/16/h...ters-with-mobile-location-data-in-pokemon-go/

About Ingress Portals and location-linking:
I feel like we’ve learned a lot of lessons from Ingress that we’ll bring to Pokémon. We’ll make sure you can play it everywhere.

Catching Pokémon
Our goal is to make it so you can walk out of the house and within five minutes, you can find Pokémon. It may not be the most rare Pokémon in the world, but there’ll be a population of Pokémon living near all our players. Gyms will be a bit more rare.
Pokémon will live in different parts of the world depending on what type of Pokémon they are. Water Pokémon will live near the water. It may be that certain Pokémon will only exist in certain parts of the world. Very rare Pokémon may exist in very few places. But you can trade. If you live in a place with lots of water Pokémon and you come to an event — we have these Ingress events that are getting bigger and bigger. We’ll have our biggest weekend ever on Saturday.

We’ll have events for Pokémon as well. Those are competitive, but they can also be places to trade stuff with other players. Pokémon trading is going to be huge.

Regarding the Pokémon Go Plus (Wearable) and not using your phone
We wanted to give people a way to play the game where you didn’t necessarily have to take your phone out and interact with the UX. Part of the idea of the game is, you’re outside and you can see beautiful things. If you’re always staring at your phone, you’re not seeing the world around you.
Why not have a little device that buzzes when you’re near something important? You can interact with it in some subtle way, and then later on you can open up your app or your tablet and you see, “Oh, I got this or did that.”
It vibrates and flashes when you’re near Pokémon. When they press a button in a certain sequence they capture it.

Talking about Teams
There will be teams to join in Pokémon, more than two. Those teams will compete against one another.

Ew...
That looks... Well, like a cheap mobile game.

I really expected Nintendo to throw their weight and pedigree behind this, but that looks clunky and awful.

Here I was thinking "can't be worse than Spirit Camera".
Then I saw the video.

The Spirit Camera 3DS game never ever worked for me. I tried setting the book on all different light sources I have at home, outside and it never works. Can't beat the tutorial because of this. So as long as this Pokémon game works it will be better in my book.

Looks mediocre, but it'll probably make more money than basically any game the year it comes out (unfortunately)

A lot is being invested in this partnership but it's not classified as a Nintendo mobile game.

Looks almost exactly as I expected, coming from Ingress. The actual gameplay is super basic, is all about the social and meta aspects.

Right, you're not wrong.

It's just that if GO isn't a complete piece of trash, it's not hard for it to hit 100M downloads on a single platform. It might seem like that doesn't mean much when the game is free, but in-game purchases work, despite how forums on the internet feel about them.

I'm not saying it's going to be the best Pokemon game yet, just that it might wear the crown in "consumers" and profit for a very, very long time.

I dont live near water without driving...can i point this at my bath tub to get a water Pokemon lol
My uni is in the middle of nowhere. I think I'll be stuck with Stantler, Sawsbuck, Miltank, and if I'm lucky maybe even a Gogoat.

Really curious to see how they implement what Pokémon you can get in certain locations.

Some of you guys think this is normal 'for a mobile game'? Take a look at how polished Miitomo is.

This is awful. Maybe if the AR can be turned off and the animations/UI are fixed it'll look decent..

Were people ever hyped for this? I mean, the trailer was cool but once I found out it was just based on Google Maps Street View and not actual AR I was pretty unimpressed. The footage is early, and may get better, but mainline Pokemon will always be the better games.

Rule 1: never get hyped for a overhyped mobile game.

My expectations were always pretty low, so I think it looks cool, haha.

Well if i gauge it of my city i suppose if i go down the southern and north parts i can grab trubish and garbador

I mean, it IS Niantic, and it IS a mobile, AR based game that operates without tags or anything. It's kind of to be expected that the tracking would be a little weird. Other than the Pokemon glitching around the screen a little, I think it looks fine.

Looks pretty much like what I expected. Go to physical place, random pokemon, pure RNG minigame with a paid option to win instantly/more often.

That looks atrocious. I had higher expectations because of the trailer they showed off.
They really need to make it look better aesthetically.

Yes. A lot of people were very hyped for this. If you went into any thread about this game you would always find people saying that this was the future of Pokemon and even that this was the biggest Pokemon project in a decade. I do hope these people will realize they were wrong now.
