Sleeping Dogs |OT| not releasing this would have been a True Crime

For those asking about vpn.
How to use VPN with steam:
1. Exit steam.
2. Download and run a VPN client with US servers ( I use spotflux)
3. Launch steam with the vpn running and unlock your games.
4 Keep the vpn running until the game is released in your region or go into offline mode and turn off the vpn. If you turn off vpn you will have to stay offline until release.

Also don't buy anything while under VPN. You can have your steam account suspended. If you need to purchase anything turn off the vpn and relaunch steam first.

I said this on Twitter before but this game reminds me so much of a Mafia II/Yakuza mix style game. About 5 hours in so far and the presentation has been stellar, and I'm thoroughly addicted. I enjoy driving smaller, easier to maneuver cars or a motorcycle but I absolutely detest driving something wider because of how damn slow the NPC's drive. It seriously drives me insane, and if you try to get around them "BAM! Property damage" :/

Anyone getting extremely low performance on the PC while driving?

My PC:
Phenom X4 955 3.2 GHZ (OC'd to 3.8)
Sapphire HD 6950
8GB RAM

My benchmarks are in the mid fifties, but while on a motorcycle my framerate is in the mid 20's. 0_o

I even tried setting it the graphics to low and I was still getting 40's to 50's in framerate. I was getting around 60fps all up until the game opened up and you were able to drive your first vehicle.

I also should note that I'm using D3DOverrider.

One thing I really like is how you'll go on a long chase, and you'll come back to the original spot and your car's still there.

Not a lot of open world games do that.

Also I like that the combat system is Batman-esque, but it's not easy mode. I've actually lost a few fights.

My anticipation for this game just increased even more. Hope it arrives in the post tomorrow.

Having a blast with this game.

Jump-kicking car windows & people, resisting arrest, action hijacks, environmental takedowns. Sleeping Dogs has exceeded my expectations.

One thing that bothers me is the handling of the vehicles. It feels..off. Not sure how to properly describe it.

Got it from redbox this morning...

LOVING IT. I'm a bit shocked because I actively dislike the combat in batman because I feel like I'm playing simon says with all the damn icons but this has clicked with me.

Is there weird shadow artifacting with extreme ssao? The game looks much better with normal ssao for me, wondering if it's just a problem on my end.

The arcadey controls don't bother me at all(I prefer them.) It's one of the few games that make it real easy to peel out on a bike instead of having to slowly back up. I think the camera's more 'off' than anything with the driving, but I've gotten used to it.

The driving is fantastic, only played around 1 hour yet but the game feels absolutely amazing so far.

Very weird, try update your Graphics drivers. I also have a Sapphire 6950 (but with a i5 2500k) and I had average 59 fps during benchmark and the games running like a charm.

I tried VPN. My copy [EU] is unlocked now, I turned off VPN, Restarted Steam and the game is working.

But I noticed few problems, When I tried the game for the first time there were missing texture/graphics, the graphics issues were resolved. restarted and then I was unable to control the main character.

Final restart made everything work smooth for me.

I'm currently playing it online, even with VPN off. No problems so far.

Is anyone else noticing slight stuttering on the PC version? Maybe it's because I've played Darksiders 2 so much today that I only think I'm seeing it now. I put a 60fps limit on it and it seems to be a little better but walking around the market it feels a little stuttery.

How do you know if you have the HD texture pack installed?

The game will look amazing :P

Anybody else in Australia have the game unlocked? My GMG copy has, and my partner's Steam copy has as well. I thought this wasn't supposed to be unlocked for another 2 days?

Oh well. What a pleasant surprise!

So reading through the Steam forums I came across this post:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2875758

In the first fight tutorial on Xbox, there's a rather in-depth guide that shows the many different techniques available to the player.

This video shows what I'm referring to: http://youtu.be/jzDxttuq5fY?t=11m43s

However, in the pc tutorial of the same fight...only 3 techniques are offered:
lt = light attack
st = strong attack

lt lt lt lt lt lt
lt lt st
st

That's it. Nothing more. The console shows the player being able to run the enemy into walls, as well as several other moves.

So did the PC port get shafted here? The commands for how to do this on the PC are not showing up whatsoever for me. Is there a setting that needs to be enabled to see all of them? If so, why would 3 show up but not the rest?

Can anyone give insight on this?

lol... am i the only one that kinda forgot about the main storyline and is just doing favors and drug busts?

some of those fights get quite tough. Is there any disarm move you can get against those weapon dudes? Shit hurts!

Also fuck, the brakes in this game are wwweeeeaaak. Always seem to crash when i arrive somewhere lol.

All my drivers are updated....I'll try to run the game without D3DOverrider

I know. I probably could just boot into the game and check but I was curious if there was a way to tell in Steam. It usually just tells you DLC will be downloaded with the game.

It just says "Play Game" so I guess I got it... strange the total download for the game was only 5GB.

Did you go to the game's DLC page on Steam and hit install game on the texture pack? That'll download it to your game. It's about 4gb by itself, and then once it's done you go to the options in game and make sure under advanced graphics you turn them on. They were off by default for me.

If in game the option says you don't have it installed. Right click the game-->properties---> local files and reverify the game cache. Also the game should be around 10GB with the texture pack.

You can run people into walls or other things on PC. You have to grab them and (360 pad user here) I think it's hold A and you'll charge while holding them. It's actually very useful since people like to hit you while you're grabbing someone.

That is all fine and good, but are fighting teqhniques missing from the PC version???

For those that played Batman Arkham City/Asylum - is the hand to hand combat similar to that game? The "freeflow" combat system? I LOVED! that in Batkman AC/Asylum

Thinking about picking this game up and recording little bits and pieces from it instead of doing my Darksiders II walkthrough.

Not as complex, but very similar. It has dial-a-combo chains of specific attacks instead of one-click attacking, though, and you can't move swiftly between enemies at long distance. The counter system is essentially the same though.

Not really though. In Batman you can hammer y all day. In this game, if you hit Y at the wrong time, it'll leave you open to getting attacked, and the timing of the enemies is much shorter than Batman's.

Yep!

Last night whenever I would turn off my VPN the 'Play' button in Steam would change to 'Pre-order'. Turn the VPN back on and it came back to Play. So it must all be unlocked now for Aussies.

Enjoying the game. Combat is simple to get into and I like the characters and setting so far. Running very well too (consistent 60fps) but I am getting a stuttering effect pretty often, doesn't appear to be loading (installed on SSD, and if you rotate the camera it happens always in the same general direction), seem more like a frame drop but if it is FRAPS must be lying. Tried with Vsync off and it didn't change anything.
