Sony defends decision to block crossplay: "A responsibility to our install base."

That 'think of the children!!!' response was embarrassing.

Jim Ryan is awful. He routinely makes terrible public comments that are easy fodder for blog articles and he sucks on camera. Easily the worst public face of PlayStation I can remember.

I like how they roll out Jim Ryan everytime they have potentially bad news.

If you're going to say something stupid to the public might as well use the dumbest clown you have in your company

Is this a done deal? Or are you leaving the door open, perhaps?

Jim Ryan: I don't think anything is ever a done deal. Anybody who is dogmatic in that manner is typically a fool. That said, to my knowledge, there is no live conversation ongoing at the moment.

Sounds like if you really want it, start bitching.

lol Sony protecting their fans from Having to deal with larger player pools enabled by xplay with other consoles gamers... yet PC crossplay is perfectly safe.

Unless they have a more technical reason for why this is supposedly "unsafe", I'm calling absolute bullshit.

Jim Ryan: Yeah. We've got to be mindful of our responsibility to our install base. Minecraft - the demographic playing that, you know as well as I do, it's all ages but it's also very young. We have a contract with the people who go online with us, that we look after them and they are within the PlayStation curated universe. Exposing what in many cases are children to external influences we have no ability to manage or look after, it's something we have to think about very carefully.
This reads like a mid-2000s Nintendo defending the lack of online play in their games.

I'd say something along the lines of "Sony pulling a Nintendo", but that would be inaccurate considering the recent events.

Yeah. We've got to be mindful of our responsibility to our install base.

That's why you don't give features that your install base wants to your fans. 4 The Players? Fuck off.

Oh god they're using Nintendo's horrible excuses.

My immediate response. When I could confuse your answers for Nintendo's, you are fucking up, badly. Just say money - we all know it's money. Literally no one is tricked by this, you dumb asshole.

The explanation is just as bad as I expected.

Sony needs to walk this back before they miss the boat. They've already missed two of the biggest franchises in gaming right now.
