Sony Pictures making "Console Wars" movie featuring Nintendo and Sega

Can't wait until the film is whitewashed as fuck!

Makes me wonder if the story is going to focus on the American market side of the industry predominantly. If that's the case, it will probably focus more on the marketing of the consoles and the American divisions more than the people who are making the games and the decisions in Japan.

This actually could be really cool with the right writers, director, cinematographers and actors. There was a lot of crazy Mad Men type shit going on at that time.

Agreed. I could only imagine the kinds of shenanigans that would occur for a movie depicting Nintendo's side of the console wars, from winning the Donkey Kong legal battle (I still want to see Universal Studios make a movie out of this) to the Virtual Boy failure to the 1990's buyout of the "Super Hornio Brothers" porn parodies to stop their production, perhaps even reaching as far as Microsoft buying Rareware in 2002, there's all kinds of crazy, innovative, and interesting things that happened within Nintendo.

Sounds sweet. Just hoping there isn't a mention of Sony in it. It's not really something essential to the Nintendo/Sega rivalry.

Wouldn't mind a movie of that Id Software/Doom biography. That book is one of my favourite reads.

Ah, didn't see that bit.

This could be risky for Sony. I mean, Sega is a publisher on thier platform. If they put something in it that offends Sega, could it damage their relationship?
Sony bought Sega and are using it to amp up their own reputation

Shenmoo 3 coming Holiday 2014

I guess they will only offend Nintendo, but then they wouldn't make Mario on Ps4 if they ever dropped the Wii U :/

They should get Mark Cerny to play Mark Cerny! In fact, don't hire any other actors and just have him sit down on a comfy coutch and read the entire script on camera! Instant Oscar!

But yeah, someone made a pair of movies (Super Hornio Brothers, and a sequel thereof) (starring Ron Jeremy, no less) in 1993. Nintendo bought the rights to both films solely to order a stop to their distribution, to keep Mario's reputation clean.

That's... actually not a bad idea. I mean Miyamoto does seem like a lively funny kind of guy. I could see Jackie pulling that off. He might be too old to pull off SNES era Miyamoto though.

A Chinese man playing a Japanese man? As if people wouldn't call that out instantly. Now Iwata played by Idris Elba...

Instead it looks like everything here is wrong, being directed by two stoner comedy directors, it makes out like Sega was this innovative underdog when they just jumped onto the bandwagon when Nintendo started making fat stacks and tried to wrestle control away from them with bullshit like BLAST PROCESSING and violent games.

I have very little hope for this, please surprise me, Rogen.
What you said. This should be some Social Network seriousness. Hoping to be surprised.

I thought they wrote/directed/etc Superbad/Knocked Up together?

Dude, you're ON the internet. Look that shit up before making dumb comments.

They wrote Superbad. Greg Mottola directed it. Knocked Up was written and directed by Judd Apatow. Yeesh.

The only released movie that these two have written AND directed is This is The End, and it was p.good.

Initially read that as Sony making a movie about Colony Wars and lost my shit. Then I read it again and fell into severe depression.

Post credits scene.

Random Nintendo Employee: Hey Mr Miyamoto. We got a message from a Mr Kutaragi at Sony Corp. He wants to talk about making a CD attachment for the Super Nintendo.

Miyamoto: Please reply to Mr Kutaragi by telling him to go take his CD's and shove them up his ass.

Random Nintendo Employee: You sure about that sir?

Miyamoto: Yes. Whats the worst that can happen?

I rolled my eyes at first, but then I realized that this could absolutely occur after the credits in the movie, right down to getting the time frame of this deal wrong....

I hope they're going to show how Kalinske bucked all odds and and made Sega a formidable presence in the Western market. I'd like to see how they handle the part where he faced off the whole SoJ board, with everyone except Nakayama doubting him.

I thought that Sega existed as a game company before Nintendo and didn't do anything well when Nintendo came into the industry except the Genesis, and even then was crushed by Nintendo sales-wise.

Sega got into the industry about the same time. If you count the selling of photo booths in Japan, repairing of pinball machines then yes, SErvice GAmes was in it before Nintendo.

Of course, Nintendo was making card games in the 1800s, so you count that as games then no.

Regardless, if Seth Rogen (misspell?) is writing it then you can probably expect Green Hornet-like efforts.

The entire Sega vs. Nintendo during the late 80s/early-late 90s was quite fun to keep up with, though Sega of Japan pretty much killed Sega of America and NOT Nintendo.

As long as it's entertaining and accurate, I don't mind.

But being the big gaming fan I am, I prefer accurate rather than entertaining.

Isn't that what Nintendo is doing right now? Killing their American branch rather than Sony or Microsoft?

I'd rather they do this than cast Tom Hanks as Shigeru Miyamoto.

To America and Japan , Nintendo won. But to the rest of the world , Sega pretty much dominated. Sega released and supported their systems in many places ninty never gave a shit about.

Even now in most third world countries Nintendo has 0 presence because they simply refuse to release their consoles or games. And they wonder why the Wii Never reached PS2 level numbers.

Why are people mentioning PlayStation? I mean, I think a movie about Sony getting serious about gaming would be interesting as fuck! But this sounds like it is about a time before PlayStation. I remember those days. Like, that shit actually happened.

Because it's a Sony Pictures movie, and they have never in the history of planet earth passed up a shot to have sony products in the movies they make.
