Press release via Gamasutra: https://www.gamasutra.com/view/news...ft_opens_North_American_publishing_branch.php
I guess the writing was on the wall since Spike Chunsoft started self publishing select games on PC/Steam and PlayStation. They will also be publishing games developed by MAGES.
This is big news if you follow publishers like NISA, PQube and so on.
Small and medium-size publishers whose duty was to specialise in bringing and marketing games from Japan to global markets must really be struggling now that the publishers behind those games are doing things themselves. Weve seen Rising Star Games basically move to irrelevance, and this move is going to hurt PQube (5pb/MAGES visual novels), NIS America (Danganronpa) and Aksys (Zero Escape). These publishers arguably made the aforementioned series popular for their IP owners.
